That was in Dubai if my memory serves me correctly.

Yeah and he got 4 years, and it was someone elses roach stuck in his shoe.
Another 4 year jail term for someone who was eating a poppy seed muffin at the airport and some landed on their shoes.

Horrible place

Word... this is a great thread, it would be even better if someone had time to compile it into a FAQ of some description because I'm sure ftl is getting sick of answering the same questions over and over ;)

My sentiments precisely.

Can we perhaps compile a set of FAQs and sticky them?

I suggest you puruse the Medicare website's 'information for medical practitioners' section, as it describes everything about what is and what is not doctor shopping. Long story short, no police involvement.

EDIT: If anyone's in trouble, its the doctor who prescribes to the shopper.

Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Regulations 2006 - SECT 14
Notification of fraudulent obtaining of drugs or poisons

(1) A registered medical practitioner, pharmacist, veterinary practitioner or
dentist who suspects or has reason to believe that a person has obtained from
him or her by means of a false pretence-

(a) a drug of dependence, Schedule 9 poison, Schedule 8 poison or
Schedule 4 poison; or

(b) an order or prescription for a drug of dependence, Schedule 9 poison,
Schedule 8 poison or Schedule 4 poison-

must immediately inform the Secretary and a member of the Victoria Police of
that suspicion or belief. Penalty: 50 penalty units.
Thanks a lot for this :).

Bottom line - you have rights. Exercise them. Who's word are the police going to take when they find what looks like drugs? The person they've just arrested?

So it's best to say nothing to them?

But that's if your smart enough to say something that helps you, if you are; go right ahead.
But for the average Joe; -- Most people shouldn't say anything.

^ Best part that I love from this page.

Because I said it. :p

I'm happy to donate some KFC that I found under the seat of my car today. It's still good. I can send it straight away, lulz - just give me an address you'd like it sent to. Don't worry about the postage, consider this thread payment enough.

To quote The Simpsons;

"Just send it to ahhhh... Jesus, care of the Pentagon" :D

Back on topic shall we?

Essentially I am posting this to confirm what I already know. I recently had to obtain a police clearance to be enrolled in a particular university degree. being caught even with the smallest amount of a controlled or illegal substance would void this correct?

Destroying any possibility of pursuing this career? the reasons to stop keep piling up haha

well i lived my life before i tried drugs, suppose i can go back to that. would it be appropriate to start an Australian thread regarding quitting? I mean surely the ultimate goal and very essence of "harm reduction" would be to not use drugs at all

I started a thread in OD about it if you want to add to that.

Shall I assume that you may be referring to a particular associate degree in NSW?

Ah. The one which precludes articulation into something else and forcing you into a degree in criminal justice failing that police clearance?
