Im a bit confused about this half life thing tho; methadone builds up in ur system, and has a long half life, in which case why do I go into WD's around the 24hr mark? Remember, Im on 80mls and have been for several years now. I know it aint panic WDs or imagined, cos the one of the very early effects is that I sneeze, sometimes 9 or ten times, sometimes to the point of puking, and cant sleep / feel cold / sweaty / dont wanna be touched etc...Im not saying Im in full blown WDs after 24hrs, but the start sure enough. If it has a long half life, and its welll built up in my system, surely it shoul hold me for much longer?

Man I want some decent fuckin gear!! I only stop craving gear after about 150mls meth, something I very rarely do, and only when Im super pissed off. Does this mean that should be my daily dose? Peace

if you take meth everyday then that's quite unusual
it should hold you for at least 30hrs when it has built up in your system(max 5 days continuous use)

holy shit, i went thro heroin wd's and that was bad enough but over xmas i got - as oprah wud say a lightbulb moment - and decided i wud knock everythin on d head, i,ve been taking valium and sleepers for a few years and ' oprah your light bulb moment put me in d shit for bout 2 weeks, i couldn't even hardly get dressed and it actually took me a while to cop dat it was d valium dat i was withdrawing frm and it was awful, really really bad. i told my doc i should try to wean myself off and he ended putting me up 7 more a week maybe he has sum method to his madness???? all i know is benzos r pretty hard to come off, eventho eachday i take dem it helps me no end. its always seems to b a vicious circle. in my case as maybe others, once an addict den always an addict, b it drugs illegal r not food r anything else dat crosses yr path

there are some people that are what is called fast metabolizers. They did a trough study at my first clinic and diagnosed me with this- and advised me to raise my dose. Some people at that clinic would get a takehome for nights but I was still turning in dirties at that time so I didn't qualify. At any rate splitting the dose, half in the morning, half in the PM might help. Rasising your dose might help. Also there is a drug called cimetidine that is OTC in the USA (brand name tagument). It is an antacid and has few side effects. If anything it will provide you with GI prophylaxis- a good thing, and also will increase the half life because it binds and ties up the liver enzyme that metabolizes methadone. The problem is that it does this with a range of other drugs ( which is why it was replaced by famotidine, protonix, and a few others.) So i would either consult your doctor, bring this to the attention of your clinic, or if they giv you a blank stare look up drug interactions with this drug. You don't want other meds your on building to toxic levels.

But I would see if you can split dose first.

@ alpha- benzo withdrawl aint no joke- I'm conserned because I;'m gonna start tapering myself and am on a high dose- scared shitless- but I'm thinking maybe a year to do it, the panic attacks I get are debilitating, though. I can use suggestions.

It could also be the shear amount of downregulation that your µ-receptors have been through so, in a sense, you've "less of them" so less Methadone molecules are able to "cling" to the lower amount of receptors???
That's purely stimulant-induced speculation though

On the topic of mu receptors. In switzerland on heroin maintenance the max dose is 750 mg per shot if I'm not mistaken. Most people lower their dose to the 400 mg and bellow range so there are presumably alot of mu receptors around to bind to- I've always wondered about that- but 80-100 mg of methadone usually did a good job blocking my Euphoria. I had to go higher to control craving- suboxone is better for me at this but have been craving since I'm down to a low dose.

spme people metabolise drugs at different rates you migh be better off splitting your dose in to two 12h ones - but like Kat said it is unusual but not that uncommon its to do with an enzyme in your liver which breaks down the 'done - nothing you can do realy tho grapefruit fuice and some stomache preps like tagamet can potentiate theh methadone i dont think it will lengthen its efficacy.

@papas... you could talk to your doc abouy increasing your dose 160 mgs is perfectly legitimate its just that in the UK the docs seem to have this ceiling of 70=80 mls, fuck knows why as there is so much peer reviewed studies that state what doses are the most effective )seee previous posts)
As for me been getting proper pukka gear well before xmas better tha PD stuff in my opinion - clean n strong , expensive but you get what you pay for ..

@blondin: I guess great men think alike. I am definately a deadhead. I have been since the mid 80s although I cut my hair and sold my VW bus (just teasing never had a VW buss.). the same shit is happening hear too although your press doesn't feed you as much a load of shit as ours does. America has become a whorehouse were our once revolutionary ideals and sacred liberties are being suspended and our country is being sold out to the highest bidder- we are fast becoming a third world country and fascist dictatorship- and our 'free press' feeds us a load of bullshit on a daily basis, I would imagine more than yours.

But atleast CA is al little more progressive in certain respects. Like med MJ-8 pages of advertisements in the local free paper for docs, dispensaries, and delivery services, this is just in conservative San Diego.

But the common middle Americans I met on my last vacation- the conservative folk are getting disillusioned with the government- I found on my last vacation- unless they work for the government.

@jspun I was out in CA in 81 or 82 ncant remember exactly and followed them round fro six months droppiong the most pure acid (which i never paid for ) and smoking weed, Jerry was still at the top of his game vocally and phil was just mind blowing. It was a mini festival on wheels mad stuff - and as i was English I was a bit of a freak -in a good way - and got to go to lots of aftershow parties - i did the pulp Fiction thing when one of the roadies layed out a line of what I thought was coke but turnrd out to be #4 - he became a good buddie!

@blondin: I envy you, your a lucky man. Hung out in the parking lot for a few years in the late 80s as they were open air drug markets, hippie gatherings, ect. I grew up in the Bay Area so the played there alot. Even when the dead weren't around you could get sheets (100 hits) for $30-$35. Hits ran $1-$5 but were usually prety strong, mostly blotter (paper) and gel (gelatin tabs). My first hit of E was purchased at a dead show just before new years eve 87'. For people who aren't familiar- there was a core group of heads that would follow the band from city to city and camp out in the parking lot setting up a little village. The band would play different songs at each show during their sets- and the vibe was different from show to show. They would tour mostly through the US but went to Europe a few times and played a famous show at the Pyramids in Egypt (pre Mabbarack) in 1977. As an aside, I don't know if Sadat was in power during this time (he was assasinated) but he was a known hash conoisseur.

But when I actually got in to my first show in 90' I was a changed man- went to I think 33 or 34 shows in the ensuing years. By 93', I think the DEA had infiltrated deap within the scene and on tour they made big busts- hippies arresting hippies.

But there were always a type of magic at shows that I have not seen duplicated, strange things would happen at shows even if you weren't on drugs or "miracles" would happen- you'd be thinking about a song and then they would play it, and everybody at the shows would help everyone else out- lots of love. You didn't need drugs to enjoy shows, would get a contact high from all the madness. By the time Jerry died, i guess it was the fall of 94' I had a nasty speedball habit and was getting ready to go cop when I heard the news.

Anyway, no band I have seen has been able to recapture that magic and that much loyalty. They were the house band at the acid tests for our younger readers, that were kinda like the raves of the 60s but LSD was the main drug- when it was still legal. A good book is "Electric Cool- Aide Acid Test", that chronicales the history of Ken Kesey and the merry pranksters- one of the major engineers of the Hippie movement in the Haight Ashbury District of San Francisco which culminated with the summer of love in 67'

Hearing tapes from the late 70s, early 80s- that was still a golden age, the people going to shows were mostly strong devotees of the band and, I would imagine, the shows were more intimate. After 86' they were selling out arenas and people on tour would have trouble getting in- but "miracles" in the form of free tickets were always around. The band members still play occasionally but that magic isn't their anymore like when Jerry was still around.

Jello Biafra was the front man of a very political Bay Area band called the dead Kennedy's- heard him speak in college- he predicted we would invade the middle East in fall 89' or winter of 90' when i heard him speak- months before Sadam invaded Kuwait.

DOA is I believe a band from Toronto that was very proliffic in the 80s- I saw them play once- he says that Reagan was the best thing for punk rock- He provided alot of inspiration, as I'm sure Thatcher did for English Punk.
