^the difference with him and me is i'm not letting the sheep pull the wool over my eyes.

whether it be psychological or physiological, opiates can be and are addictive, myself included (even though i consider myself medically dependent on them, atm, it's just straight addiction when im using to get high).

fussmushie will soon know the hard reality of psychological and physiological addiction once he/she is in withdrawal and is craving a hit

I started with uppers; hated crashing, kicked the habit really quick, but I do whatever I can get my hands on. But with opiates Ive used everything; heroin, morphine, oxycotin, percocets, vicotin, valium. Anything and everything. Nowaydays I don't use much of the real nasty stuff, cept Xanax but they arn't opiates.

Honestly you won't get addicted right away as long as u keep ur head on straight.

I'm not addicted, I can go with out, and choose to sometimes; but I knew from the beginning I didn't want an addiction and I knew my limits.

I've tried the bad brown powder a bunch of times (sniffed and plugged) but it just doesn't match the high that oxy can give me. .

I agree. I loved Oxy and preferred it to H. Ironically I never used opiates IV, but I fell in love with IV cocaine for a short time after I got on MMT. But that was a million years ago. That love affair had to end if I wanted to live the life MMT had saved so here I am.

and i'm not touchin no needles

By the by many of us said that we'd never touch a needle...no way no how. And I have no doubt you mean it..but eventually in opiate addiction you will get to a point where your around a group of people that use IV and then you get desensitized to the whole idea of it. You'll suddenly feel like it's not all that gross or scary8o. Eventually, just knowing that you can make what you have last a lot longer by IVing will drive you to try it once and now that you've tried it you will not go back.

I know I know...not me!! Right? Your different than those people.

Well dang, guy, I really really wanted to be an addict....I been dreaming about it ever since I started using, yah know?:\

I have done opiates a lot. Within a month of doing opiates for the first time (a 10mg hydrocodone), I did opiates again at least 5 more times. I loved it. I did not become addicted, although. Since then (a year and a half ago) I have done a ton of opiates and still have not become addicted. :)

I believe it is up to the person (or personality of a person) to become addicted. I do think, on the other hand, that if I began IV use of opiates I would become addicted. :(

I don't know if this was a mistype, but Valium is a Benzo just like Xanax. :)

It took me a lot more than 5 times to get addicted. I used on and off just for fun for a couple years. Then I started using daily, but I'd quit every month or so without suffering any serious withdrawal. I finally found myself using daily for almost a year. Then I was officially addicted and when I ran out of pills the withdrawal was nasty. Before that the psychological addiction was pretty strong though. I totally let myself get addicted to opioids because I liked the high that much.

I used some codeine in high school, then smoked heroin occasionally in my early twenty's. Now I use OC a couple times a month. I've never felt like I was at risk for getting addicted, but I do admit that if I have a difficult time finding a supply - I think about scoring more quite a bit. I treat opiates with a great deal of respect, mostly because I've heard so many horror stories of addiction over the years. So I use, but don't abuse... and I'm confident I can stay this way indefinitely.

i stopped doing opiates because i just got sick and tired of the hassle of trying to get the oc pills or your bag of H. Too many shit heads in and around the biz of opiates... so i just said fuck it one day and stopped doing OC..

well actually your wrong, swim has tried IV b4 and i went back to snorting the next day, i wasn't impressed with the needle. Gives a short rush and high but honestly I'd rather snort up 200mgs of Oxy and nod out

number 2. i have used some dihydrocodeine with occasional other pharms and poppy seed tea a few years ago, but never used daily for more than 5 consecutive days and made pauses. i was quite watchful of any developing addiction and thankfully knew when to stop. had no problems with stopping my use and no real desire to use again. i've only taken one low dose of dhc in the last 4 years and no plans of using more often than that.

been using hydromorphone for 5 years now, not addicted. Took the entire month of December off of using with no problem. Never use it more than two days in a row

I started with tramadol, got addicted very fast and after that used codeine and subutex and now again i use tramal every day. Been addicted almost for one year now. I probably get a change to try heroin soon and maybe get oxys after few months. I know its not a good idea but i feel there is only one good thing in my life and thats opiates :(

I started out with stealing hydrocodone and ultram pills from family during my junior year of high school. That was manageable until the end of my senior year of high school when I was introduced to oxycontin and heroin. The first time I tried oxycontin it was love at first dose. I spent my first semester of college with nothing more than a hose clamp, a constant supply of 30mg roxycodone, and a dollar bill. It eventually escalated to a ~240mg/day habit by the time I transferred out at the end of the semester.

Came back home from college and all of my friends had moved on to heroin, since it was cheaper than scrip-opiates. The next year and a half was full-blown addiction to opiates while attending a different school back home. I upgraded from snorting heroin and oxycontin to shooting it, stealing insulin needles from my mom. Eventually it got to the point where the only thing I could still get high off of was shooting the gel from fentanyl patches. I had tried to ween myself off with methadone and dilaudid but that never worked, I always ended up trying to get a better high.

Eventually all of this caught up with me, I overdosed on fentanyl and meth at 19. It was a major wake-up call. I entered treatment for a couple weeks, got on the Suboxone program and managed to stay clean for about 14 months. I relapsed a little over a month ago on hydrocodone and some other pharms and that lasted about 3 or 4 weeks. Now I've been clean for 10 days.

Unfortunately I am not one of those "hit it and quit it" people. When I have something that makes me feel good, I want it all the time. That's what made opiates such a journey for me. It felt awful to relapse with over a year clean, but that's addiction, it's a bitch.

I believe that there are fewer people actually in denial that chose #2 than you might think. Especially in regard to chronic pain patients. I think the stats are that less than 10% actually become addicted. I think this has a lot to do with the nature of pain itself, and the fact that pain screws with the natural euphoria of taking opiates and either lessens it or often eliminates it entirely. Plus the fact that pain patients for the most part didn't choose to continually take opiates but rather their disease or ailment forced them into the situation.

I certainly enjoy any euphoria that taking opiates affords me, yet I don't feel that I am addicted and past experience supports that belief. I quit a 3 pack a day cigarette habit cold turkey, quit drinking liquor except for the occasional hi-ball after drinking at least 12 mixed drinks a night when I played in a band. And that was before the nightly party started. :\

Of course, you never really know. It hasn't been a problem for me and I hope it never will be, but then you can never be certain what the future holds.

All in all, I think a lot of addiction has to do with genetic brain makeup. Some of us are blessed (or cursed) with the ability to just drop the use of drugs or alcohol when we choose to, while others are driven to substance abuse just as the rest of us are driven to food and water and air.
