Octopus is normal food over here, as is horse meat%), ate it regularly all my life. Potato salad with olive oil, capers, parsley and octopus is a standard way of eating it, it's good for human consumption, don't worry, the worst is that it might be a bit chewy and have a gummy texture. There's a technique to cook it without making it all gummy, unfortunately a lot of people just boil the shit out of it, making it unedible.

I stopped eating octopus after I had a very intense eye contact with one while on acid at the Plymouth aquarium back when I was in uni, felt like we had a connection, decided I wasn't going to eat it anymore.

lol, the carpet would have been better a few months ago, but save it for the coming winter?

I use cardboard, we have loads of old cardboard boxes go in a skip at work, almost never needs emptying as there are so many FUCKING HIPPIES in the town I work they are always raiding the skip for their "allotments"...

If i was to walk about a mile south of here, the sun would probably be out, some days the weather from Dartmoor just won't shift off our town.

Does it look like both sides are beginning to realise noone is going to come out on top and start entering into a bit of realistic dialogue? I read the other day russian arms manufacturers announced the still intend to honor deals set up with the government there.

Syria is awfully complicated, the bad thing is that there aren't really just two sides, the risk is that with fall of the regime there will be sectarian violence probably worst than what we saw in Irak post-US invasion.

The rebels are actually divided, there's people among them who simply had enough of the regime or want to avenge friends and family killed by the government, there's secular, pro-democracy activists, however there's also a very dangerous jihadi component.

As for the government, obviously the main supporters are the Alawites, Assad, his family and most of his cronies are from this group, but there's also other minority groups such as Druze, Armenians and Christians who are neutral or even supportive of the regime because they are afraid of what might happen to them if Sunni radicals take power.

My family I have there are Palestinian Christians, most have left for France, Lebanon and the US, however my grandpa, uncle and one auntie are still there.
 
Sorry I cant keep up but I love eating Octopus :) - my last vacation was Spain where a small plate of it was really expensive 'Pulpo' 20€ a plate just cos they had some boiled potatoes under it. If I get the chance I'll buy it/cook it !

Sounds like Lebanon. Can you tell me a few of the differences between Syrai and Lebanon MK? I'm pretty ignorant of it all and you sound like you've lived it. Was Lebanon even more divided? I remember some crazy sounding alliances from those days, never could follow who was on who's side.
 
thats the best way the Spaniards cook it. Northern speciality, paprika and olive oil seasoning.

Our local Morrisons is where i usually buy it. The bigger ones are better, and they shrink a lot on cooking.

I can't remember if I got it from a Rick Stein or a Hugh F-W book but one of my favourite ways of cooking octopus is in a red wine and pea stew, sounds a bit rough, but its lovely....

I always cook it on a low heat in a casserole dish with lots of olive oil and a bay leaf for about 3 hours in the oven, then you can do whatever you're gonna do with it....

Side note - Folley as the new ED mod 8(. They boot me (somebody with 20 years 'real' experience) they take on some 17 year old who in all honesty I've had more Sunday lunches as they have pills ... :( Going to give that section a wide berth !!!

Have you got any ideas what you'd like to do Max? I'm just applying for a nursing course. If I get a place i'll be elligable for an NHS bursary so I won't have to deal with the benefit agency's when my daughter leaves education and child tax credits etc etc get reassessed.
The thought of going back to education is a bit daunting... I'll probably be out of pocket but I'd rather be working towards doing something that i'm interested in than joining the rat race.. Been there and done that thanks. If I had to get on tubes in rush hours i'd probably be a danger to society so nahhh nursing is the way forward.
