Speaking of libya....

Amid an undeclared arms race among European defense contractors to reequip Libya’s armed forces, Britain is sending a Royal Navy war ship to Tripoli to act as a floating show room for security firms.

A British government agency, UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), is organizing an arms fair on a Royal Navy frigate, which will dock in Tripoli, Libya at the beginning of April.

seems the wests idea of dealing with violence in fractious countries is to funnel more arms into the region. Idiots. They are still signing new arms deals with the Sri Lankan government aswell.

They booted you as in sacked you off ?

Right i'm going out in teh sunshine .

In before the 'Ninja' alterations etc - Yeah I was booted (not by choice) ! I had already explained that I wasn't going to be as active (and the mods ok'd it) - I then went on to explain I was going on 'Vacation'. Got back online after vacation and was told I was no longer wanted and my modship was revoked!! I stupidly questioned it but was given the typical bluelight bullshit reply ....

Sounds like Lebanon. Can you tell me a few of the differences between Syrai and Lebanon MK? I'm pretty ignorant of it all and you sound like you've lived it. Was Lebanon even more divided? I remember some crazy sounding alliances from those days, never could follow who was on who's side.

Lebanon is extremely sectarian as well, during the civil war they did have crazy alliances that changed quite a bit.

Basically back in the day the Maronite Christians had the upper hand in government while the Shia were traditionally poorer and less influent politically.

When the PLO were kicked out of Jordan they moved to southern Lebanon where they started conducting attacks against Israel, the Israelis then invaded to create a "buffer zone" but ended up going all the way to Beirut. During the civil war some Christian militias like Katayeb and Lebanese Forces were actually armed and trained by the Israelis, the Shabra and Shatila massacre(quite infamous slaughter of civilians in a Palestinian refugee camp) was actually done by Lebanese militias. Since the 1980s the Iranians started organizing and supplying Shia militants in southern Lebanon, that's the origin of Hizbullah.

If you're interested in Lebanon try reading some Robert Fisk, he's probably the best writer on the subject. There's a great book called Pity the Nation, which is all about Lebanon, very said, but well written and full of information.

You got booted bearlove????? What for?

Erm I never found out tbh! I wasn't able to give as much time to the section - which I advised and had the OK from the mods at the time. I was told WHATEVER I could do was greatly appreciated. I had to leave on vacation (which I advised in the appropriate section) - I apparently failed to led 'THEM' know how long I was going away for and on my return - I had been booted!

BRUSSELS (AP) — European Union foreign ministers are wrestling with the divisive issue of whether to ease the arms embargo against Syria so military aid can be funneled to the rebels fighting President Bashar Assad.

An EU official said Britain is lobbying to ease the embargo so munitions could flow, but only to the rebels. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss closed-door deliberations.

william hague really needs to wind his neck in.

Blimey y'all been Gibbering whilst I nipped out - taken me ages to catch up 8o

Will skip discussing the Middle East and the ins and outs of cooking and eating octopusses and just say that it's bloody lovely out here. Not only sunny but actually warm. Ish. Fairly warm. Warm enough to have opened windows for the first time this year anyway. Now sat indoors again in semi-gloom cos the houses across the way from me block most of me sunshine cos the flats are in a bit of a ditch and massively overlooked. Hohum. The top left corner of the window looks nice and sunny but doubt I'd manage to sit on it.

Certainly does, Ceres. Been lovely all week but not really warm as such. Perfect weather for pottering outside should one have suitable pottering to do. Even just sat inside it's nice to air the place out a bit. Been far too cold to even leave the lil air vents at the top of me windows open let alone open the actual windows recently. Although that was largely due to lack of heating really. Added bonus of this nice spell being that I don't even need the heating now I've got it fixed. Yay for sunshine I say =D

Ben: Yup. Is called SAD (somewhat ironically). You can get lamps too counterract the effects. Few folk here use them.

That has a overtone of Impeachment to it & as I learned from a legal expert about these things from some legal issues I have had "Ius ad silentium"
But yes I am familiar with the Internet & Forums in general.

May you go in peace my brother, I am off to sample this weird food, if I get ill I will be taking legal action against everyone that told me it's nice, I am freinds with Oscar Zeta Acosta I will have you know :)

welcome back Farmaz :)

Yeah I had an extended walk today (I don't get out much) and even though it was a little cold everyone I spoke to seemed to have an added spring in therwe step. Some old girl said to me with a laugh and a smile "spring is on the way", amazing what effect the weather has on us. I enjoyed my strole today.

Thx for that MK, still reading through a second time...will ponce the Fisk book off a mate of mine who is bound to have it.

All the spring flowers will come out and get crushed by the night frosts. Ain't nature weird.

And again, thx for the reading. Seems I was in the right ball park at least. There are many similarities, or at least similar religious and ethnic groups and the two seem hopelessly connected. I never realized Syria's troops remained for 15 years after the civil war in Lebanon.

It's quite a heavy book, sobering read for sure.

This article is fairly recent, sort of covers the same theme:
