Only on TV, though i've watched leaf- cutter and army ants in the tropics

Isn't there a species of Ant that grows its own shrooms so to speak, seem to remember one that farms fungus?

Not in the UK I don't think, but there is a symbiotic relationship between some ant species (leafcutters being one) and fungus - both depending upon the other for survival. Same with termites. Amazing creatures...
