Gabapentinoids Gabapentin Megathread

Gabapentin goes well with a low dose of Benzos. Had 3000 mg last Friday with 1 g, experienced sedation with an awsome sence of well being. Took 2 to 3 hours to kick in fully. Got the impairted performance, the I was getting auditory hallucinations. I the crashed out at my computer and work up at about 6 in the moring. Had an afterglow the next day.

I like taking ~1gram of gabapentin when I am going on a meth or coke bender. It keeps me from getting the painful crampy muscle tension from large dosages of stimulants and also also cushions my come down and keeps my headaches to a minimum.

Figured id throw my 2 cents in... just got out of rehab for heroin addiction and was given 100 mgs of neurontin 3 times daily and 600 mgs at night for RLS along with trazadone for sleep and my prozac too. I have yet to find any use for the gaba except maybe to calm my nerves when i start getting the twitches of wanting to get a bag of dope... ill take 1200 mgs and calm down on the couch. I guess you could say it is like a mild benzo like diazepam but not with any recreational effects. I will try 1800 mgs and see if that makes a difference but I doubt it... prolly just get sleeping.... maybe with some antihistamines could get kind of a nod feeling maybe idk

Hi everyone, I hope that I'm not repeating a question that has been asked a bunch of times before in this thread, but I used the search engine and didn't find what I was looking for. So, I have been on gabapentin for anxiety (off label) for about a year now, and I'm ready to quit it completely after my finals. I am getting more and more problems with it, especially with rebound anxiety if I miss a dose, tolerance, and very uncomfortable physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms even when I try to taper down. They are: cold sweats/chills, heart palpitations, paralyzing anxiety, insomnia, depression, fatigue... They go away if I take my dose again/or a higher dose.

Questions:

1) How long, in your experiences, does withdrawal from gabapentin usually last? This ONLY APPLIES to people who actually get withdrawal from not taking it, unless someone who gets no withdrawal from this still has good advice. :) I have from December 10th to December 22nd to get better (then family comes into town and I HAVE to be functional)

2) What vitamins, herbs, or lighter drugs (hydroxyzine maybe?) could I take to ease the withdrawal without being overly sedated? I have a few in mind but maybe there are more out there that I haven't thought of. So far I have: fish oil, choline, inositol, niacin, multi-vitamin with chelated minerals, rhodiola rosea, mucuna pruriens, bee pollen, maca. However, I'm especially looking for stuff that will stimulate GABA production. I know green tea is great for that, but I'm also quitting caffeine for a week to get my tolerance back down to a normal level.

Thanks in advance for your help! Peace!

You need to taper, I was on it for 8 months 3200mg a day for neuropathic pain. Drop 300mg off your dose every week until you're down to 100mg then jump off. That's the best way, it can seriously mess you up if you reduce too slow. I had bad side effects from it anyway, and pregabalin which is a shame as I was hoping it would help my pain but no it turned me into a zombie, made my panic attacks worse, made me shake and affected my coordination, the pregabalin actually made me fall alot of times which caused me to hurt my already injured parts. I got same off low doses as high doses and my body never got used to it.

Good luck and remember to drop as slow as you can to keep withdrawals to a minimum.

Yeah man, gabapentin caused me some of the worst w/d I have ever felt from anything, and that says a lot coming from my ex-junkie ass. It was like Suboxone; except it wouldn't end. After a month Sub w/d got significantly better. After a month of gabapentin w/d, it had not eased one bit (take in mind I had been on 2400-3600mg/day for 8 years). I was plagued with agoraphobic anxiety, cold sweats and chills that were as bad as any opioid w/d I'd ever had if not worse, inability to find words and worse short-term memory problems than when I was on it, pretty severe depression, lack of energy, and flu-like muscle pain. Like I said, it wasn't any better after 30 days. I gave in and have been on it since. (I've probably gone into w/d from it ~5 times over the years).

Yes. I find with gabapentin, when taken properly in sequential doses and when you can achieve that great, clear euphoria (sometimes with CEV of moving, watery organic forms), the next day usually has a grand afterglow too. It helps with sleep and when you wake you feel refreshed.

Also, about the psychedelic effects of the drug - they fascinate me. I find once I get to that great glowy place with gabapentin, if I close my eyes it's almost like being able to go inside mini lucid dreams with vivid, spontaneous visuals. I like to lay on my bed and let the visuals happen, sometimes drifting toward sleep, other times remaining relatively conscience and aware.

I actually had my one and only seizure while taking this drug (prescribed) with Welbutrin (prescribed to help quit smoking). It wasnt until I mixed in a mild opiate...but i wont take any of those together till this day because its the only seizure i had and the dr said theres a slightly higher chance of having a seizure when mixing the anti with the Gabapentin...(dont ask me why he prescribed them together then, perhaps he was just hopefull that I wouldnt be the 1%) Jerk.

Hey out there. Im new to this so if this is in the wrong thread, I apologize. I was on Gabapentin for a couple of months as a last resort to treat my blood clot pain in my groin. The pain is intense and runs my life. 3 months ago I was put on methadone. Well, I still have a bunch of gabapentin left from last year with refills still legit. My question is, will the gabapentin boost the methadone effects a bit? Ive tried tagament and grapefruit but it doesnt work for me. I was excited to see in this thread that some people have had success at combining these two. I guess Ill try it and see. Im only gonna start at 300mg a day I guess. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Glad to report, methadone and gabapentin mix well. My tolerance is low and Im tryin to keep it that way. Im taking 900mg of gabapentin a day and 40mg of methadone. I take them both together 4 times a day. I can sure tell a difference in pain management. Im still in a lot of pain and would rather another opiate but I have tons of gabapentin. Bout 2 hrs after dosing, effects kick in. Not too strong but better than nothing. Gabapentin good!!

Yeah gabapentin really does potentiate the body high with opiates, and it's great to use for withdrawal or whenever you're tapering. I'm surprised to hear so many people experience withdrawal from gabapentin. I mean, it makes sense being a gabaergic and all, but I took about 1,200 mg or more a day for half a year and had no problem quitting cold turkey. I guess I'm lucky though.

The thing that pisses me off, is that for some reason, gabapentin has completely lost its recreational value to me. When I first started taking it, a low dose would make me feel speedy, and higher dosages felt like a sloppy Xanax high. Now, if I take any dosage above 600mg, I just feel awful from it. My motor functions become sloppy like I'm drunk, I get a slight body high that feels like the body high from THC, and I become very paranoid and confused. It's so strange that the drug seems to affect me in a COMPLETELY different way now, then it did about a year ago.

In the end though, I can't complain, it's made tapering down on my suboxone so much easier than if I didn't have it. I bet that if I could have a week to hole up in a shitty hotel and detox, I could get by with just the gabapentin and maybe some diphenhydramine.

Yup, I agree with you Znegative. Ive never taken enough gabapentin for a high of its own but it sure makes my methadone stronger. Im up to 900mg a day which might go up Monday when I see my Doc. I have used gabapentin when I ran out of pills in the past and It does really help with withdrawal. It did for me anyway. Still at a 5 on the pain scale. Trying to find other things that will help too. Methadone is very hard to boost, as everyone knows.

I took 300mg every 20 mins for the last hour. So I'm at 1200mg. About to down 3900mg and 50mg diphen. Here we go.

Wow! I have dosed gaba dozens of times, but always took 300mg spred apart by 20 mins. All at once is the way to go! I took 5000mg and 50mg DPH and two hours later dosed 100mg DPH. Holy shit! One of nt best highs ever! And I've take 79 diff substances... I wrote a repoer durring the experience. Seriously, wow! I had lost faith in gaba.

i agree with 2muchpain i take this 4 times a day at 600mg and i have no side affects at all at first it helped me sleep a bit but other than that i dont not see any benifits as far as recreational use

Let me assure everyone here that all at once is the way to go. Then stagger afterwords if you please. Unless you're not looking to get fucked up, because gabapentin will most assuredly fuck your ass up if you dose several grams with little/no tolerance to the drug.

When I first started using the drug about 8 years ago, the highs I experienced was as euphoric and amazing as MDMA, no lie. Different, but the body high...holy shit. Seriously, like 10 hours of straight-up full-body waves of pure ecstasy. The mental high was that of being totally disinhibited, but not to the point where I would wake up the next morning being told shameful stories of the night before, i.e. benzos. Very sociable, energetic even, but still "downered-out", per say. It's very hard to explain. On top of that, there's no comedown and it lasts all fucking day.

Downsides are really nothing but some pretty scattered/blurry memories of being high. But most of them are there. Never blacked out on it, that I remember anyway (lol obviously). If taken regularly, like a medication, it most definitely causes some fairly serious short-term memory issues...if you even care. I don't having been a benzo addict for the last decade nearly (I'm 4 months off them now). I don't know what having a good memory even means, so that side effect could be worse. It's not as bad as benzo-memory, so I'm not complaining.

I'm rambling because I'm really high on bupe right now, so I'm gonna go, but I'll be back to check the thread later on. Peace & Love, yoos guys.
