Facebook: Hate it or Love it?

like at the time i was dating a girl who i had been with for 3 years, and she would ask me all these questions about girls i was friends with on there, and god forbid id get a friend request from the girl i knew in 7th grade or something. better make sure that relationship status is correct!

That's a girl problem, not a Facebook problem.

My boyfriend has probably every girl he's ever slammed as a friend on FB and I couldn't care less.

Down with Facebook!

i had an account for a while, but ended up deactivating it a few months ago. mainly because it makes ppl vouyers and biggest of all, its like everything written or said on FB is gospel. like at the time i was dating a girl who i had been with for 3 years, and she would ask me all these questions about girls i was friends with on there, and god forbid id get a friend request from the girl i knew in 7th grade or something. better make sure that relationship status is correct!

i just got so fed up with it that i said fuck it, im deactivating this time waster. the ppl that i want to get a hold of me know how to do so. im not that interesting anyways lol not to mention if i am going to burn time online id rather do it on BL where i can actually learn a thing or two and share knowledge for the sake of harm reduction, better than liking status updates and pictures.

Why don't you use facebook to share knowledge and information about harm reduction? Surely people who aren't already on bluelight would benefit the most from it.

Because then every second person would be gossiping about how 'medicine cabinet' is a "junkie"?

^This^ I'd like to talk about drugs on fb,but have too many work contacts, "concerned friends" who will try and lecture me if I even mention I smoke cigs (fuck off,my body my choice) ,and ppl from high school who are still living in the same shitty small town I grew up in and they'd gossip about what a junkie I am to everyone they know, because they have boring ass lives.

Ha ha... so many of us recently deactivated our accounts... mine's been deactivated for a month or two as well... It's not about Facebook itself... to me it's just a social network... they're really all the same to me. I deactivated it because it occurred to me most of the 'friends' on it don't like me and never will, and it was futile really staying in touch with them.

Ha. I've never been big on social networks. The only reason I ever joined facebook was I was sick of getting so many damned invites in email, and shut them up by registering lol.

At the end of the day I'm baffled why people think it's such a big deal. It's just some software. Maybe it may have a good design and interface or whatever but whoopty doo! Man, computers are capable of far cooler shit than that.

Word word. Just sayin you can control who sees what. And maybe its just me, but psychology, philosophy, an psychedelic drugs/ bud gives off a scholarly yuppie vibe. Not everyones gonna like you. To each his own :)

I have an account for the sole purpose of having my friends photos automatically linked and updated to their number in my cellphone. That's convenience, and I like convenience.

Beyond that it just become a bother, and so I abstain. (Courteously of course)

Well I reactivated my facebook after almost 2 months off it,and fuck! Got bombarded with comments and messages asking where I've been after being back on for 20 minutes.
Starting to regret it a little, cos now I remember what a huge time waster it is.The immediacy of it compared to posting on here is making my head hurt :\

I recently made a brand-new account because I'm leaving soon and will be out of state a lot. I'm using it to keep in touch with family and friends.
I suppose that's the main purpose of it, but it just gets out of hand, right?

It doesn't get out of hand as long as you don't 'friend' people you don't care about in real life. That's when it starts to become annoying.

If people don't like the content of their facebook, then why don't they persuade their friends to use it in better ways?

There are many reasons to start a Face Book besides as a personal social page. I had started one for people who have a 'Seronegative Spondyloarthropathy', but there was an existing FB page on the the topic and I let mine go.

Using FaceBook to bring awareness to a subject that matters to you seems the best way to use it.

I use facebook every day, but I don't ever use twitter or tumblr. I am selective about the people on my friends list and have strict privacy settings. I mostly use it for connecting with people I don't see regularly, and it's also great for events with friends and local concerts. I use it mostly for stuff like sports teams/figures, prominent athletes, comedians, authors, and a few tv shows. A lot of stuff like sportscenter and espn, they post all kinds of cool links. I am big into the fitness and mma scene so it's nice to be able to enter contests and giveaways. I've actually won hundreds of dollars of supplements and weight lifting equipment before.
It's more of a cultural networking site for me, I dont bother posting pictures unless they are from imgur, and I don't post on people's timeline/walls. Most of my status updates are just me getting excited about sports or a great band coming into town. I like to troll my close friends and wreck their profiles with inside jokes and meme pics though sometimes.

-does friend count matter?
Not at all. It has who I'd like to have as friends and maybe more as I make new ones.

-how tight are your privacy settings?
Everything is private, unless you are a friend.

-do you only friend ppl you know IRL or happily accept randoms?
I'd say 98% I know IRL and the few I do have either share a few mutual friends or Trance Family peeps.

-love it as a stalking tool?
Ehh, not so much. I don't really spend enough time on it to stalk, but I'll browse the news feed a few scrolls.

-use it for networking?
I will be once I'm in school to build my clientele.

-why do you love it/hate it?
I love it because it allows me to keep in touch easily with friends near and far. I hate it because it displays your every goddamn move. Who cares if I just commented on so & so's status. Or when you comment on something that ends up getting 23480238 comments after yours and notifies you of every single one.

^Same story here; except nearly two years now. I have a phone and a mouth, and I never saw a single thing in my news feed during the over two years I actually used Facebook that I cared about even remotely.
Why do you feel the need to tell the world about how you just got back from coffee?.. I don't care Facebook!! DISLIKE BUTTON.

P.S. Evolver kicks ass if you've got an active pod in your area. It's the only networking I need.

I'm not a fan.

I used to use it a lot, but I deleted it a couple weeks ago and I'm glad I did. It stressed me out too much. A social networking tool/the Internet should not have me stressed out the way it did.
