Roast chicken breast with cream cheese and breadcrumb topping, buttery mash, brocolli, fine beans and gravy. Yes, there were actual veggies involved. Shocked even myself but I just couldn't bring myself to have beans with it. Appears I'm a dab hand at boiling veggies cos were just the right side of crunchy. Veg water used to make gravy too. Tad too much salt overall but otherwise damn near perfect if I do say so myself. Same again tomorrow, will lay off the salt a bit. Although I must say I really do like this "posh" salt I've got in at the moment. Cornish sea salt. Quite pricey but infinitely tastier than table salt.

Cadbury's Creme Egg ice cream for pud in a bit. I seem to do much better at avoiding booze of an eve if I have some kinda pud in play. On balance, it's probably no worse for my waistline than the booze anyway and almost certainly healthier overall even if puds ain't the healthiest thing in the world. Well, ice cream certainly ain't. Seems those nice fruit pies and crumbles are no longer on offer or I'd've got one of those in. Think the fresh fruit pies are usually pretty cheap though so might have to investigate. They count as a vegetable. Although I heard a thing recently that pointed out that after several years' research there's been zero evidence found that "Five A Day" makes a blind bit of difference to anything. Apparently you'd need nearer 11-13 portions of fruit and veg a day to actually make a noticeable difference to health. Which seems a tad extreme. Surely even vegans and veggies would struggle to get quite that much fruit 'n' veg down 'em on a daily basis?!? 8(

Tad too much salt overall...

Spotted my *ahem* deliberate mistake...

... Veg water used to make gravy...

Highly salted veg water. Oopsies. Ah well, less salty gravy tonight but managed to slightly overdo the veg. Am very far from a veg connoisseur but must say I definitely noticed the difference. They weren't much over but just enough to make them quite considerably mankier. Does suggest to me that I could probably retrain my palate to not only put up with the occasional veggie but maybe - just maybe - actually get to like some now I can see what a difference cooking 'em just right makes.

Another booze-free night for me with the help of forthcoming pud. Although must admit this Creme Egg ice cream is a bit of a disappointment. The "egg white" is too bland for my taste - kinda like Mr Whippy only without the whippiness, and the "yolk" is a bit too runny and cloying. Obviously an actual Creme Egg is the very definition of cloying but it's a small thing - coupla mouthfuls - which is fine for such things. Being ice cream you kinda want a bowl of it (or equivalent - straight from the tub me cos am pure class) and what should be a bit of a highlight is actually a bit of a lowlight. At least the bits of choc are nice but won't bother buying again. The biccies are the Creme Egg variant to go for, I'd say. They really are rather nice. As long as you stick to the one or two - very much on the cloying end again, only in the goooooood way <3

had nothing in the fridge so

Green bean curry, with flat breads and aubergine fritters :).

Agreed. I have a mixed relationship with aubergine. Perfectly edible in most situations, utterly rancid in others. Admittedly I have relatively low experience with said veggies, but have always been on my "Would probably like if I made the effort" list when it comes to veggiestuffs.

Dins tonight consisted of pizza. Last one I had was deeply, deeply disappointing but this one was no bad at all. Added a fair variety of bobz to it but the underlying pizza itself was decent which - I presume - made the difference. Around a quid more than I normally spend on a pizza and definitely worth it.

Oh the aubergine fritters look nice. How did you get them like that?

Sorry RAAS haven't been online much the last week -

Make a spicy batter - I use Besan (Gram / Chickpea flour) mix it with cumin, coriander, turmeric, chili powder, salt and a little bit of sugar - mix with water until you have a thick batter. Cut the aubergine into about 5mm slices then dip the aubergine in that and then shallow fry :). (two or three tablespoons of floor is enough for the batter)

If you replace the aubergine for sliced onion then this makes great (flat) onion Bhaji which I often make (I would then add some cumin seeds to the batter and let the batter sit for a few minutes before using).

^ Sounds much like the kinda thing I've had at Indian friend's houses. I <3 gram flour-based battery stuffs <3

Brekky today consisted of a rather piggy BLT wiv stuffs. BLT much as you'd expect but with added cucumber, cheese & oniony mayo-based sandwich filler concoction (was cheap and needs using) and a dash of chipotle sauce. Tasty. But definitely a bit piggy.

Sometime between now and dins I'll be finishing off the...

... I started last night. Really bloody tasty are those Collective yoghurts. Really bloody pricey too so best bought when on offer. This one was not on offer but couldn't resist it's yumminess. At nearly three quid a pot it better bloody had be tasty 8o

I just made a great meal - what I thought was a pack of wings turned out to be a pack of chicken pieces. They were marinated in a thai spicey sauce and served with some simple stir fried veg's. (It was supposed to be a spicy salad but I had no limes /lemons). Photos were taken but they look awful !

Pork 'n' sausage stew wiv dumplings. Particularly good stew it is too. Very good value are those stewpack veggies - less than £1.50 for enough for a big potful that lasts me the best part of a week. Admittedly it's mostly carrots but few onions, a parsnip and a swede (root vegetable, not Viking warrior). Also decided that swedes are the must stupidly difficult veggie to peel and chop. Is like wood-carving. Thankfully it cooks up nice and squishy but lawdy is it a touch bugger to get into 8o

Considering fairly excessive pud to make up for lack of drugs...

Just about to eat a 2x4" slice of cheese and onion slice, first and last thing I will be having to eat today. Bearlove can I come over for dinner? Looking at those pictures makes my cheese and onion slice even more unappealing and that's no easy feat!

Made a Thai curry last night and had some Prawn dumplings as a starter - not the sexiest looking food in the world but were pretty tasty.
(sauce was the standard Thai dipping sauce, Fish sauce, lime, garlic, sugar, chili)

Thai food is great and I eat loads of it - the dumplings were nice and as I had both prawns and wrappers in the freezer didn't take that long to put together. I made a spicy peanut sauce (peanut butter mixed with fish sauce, garlic, chili, and a little bit of coconut milk) which I had over the curry which gave the curry a really rich texture.

Tonight was spinach, feta and tomato Omelette :) (cooked in the microwave so it looks a bit anemic -tasted great though.)

Bearlove in microwaved meal shocker 8o8(8o

(and still manages to make it look delish :!)

Munched about half a tub of Ben and Jerry 's peanut butter cups ice cream a couple of hours ago. Lovely stuff. Gonna resist getting back out of bed and eating the rest.
Anyone else a massive fan of ice cream? I could literally live of the stuff :)

Definitely. I once spent an entire summer living on nothing (that I recall) other than a tub each of Ben & Jerry's and Haagen-Dazs (both swiped from the garage) per day. Litre of luxury ice cream daily and still lost weight: gotta <3 the ol' crackensmack diet :D

Today I have munched fish finger sarnies for lunch (50/50 breaded haddock/battered cod mix) wiv tomato ketchup and chipotle sauce. Then "Hotfella" pizza for dins. They're really rather good those Hotfella jobbies. Vastly superior to the Meatyfella (or whatever it's called) sibling which is quite frankly rancid. Half price at Co-Op at the moment too and a bargain at ~£1.60.

I'm with you on the Haagen-Daz Shambles. I love the Strawberry cheesecake one in particular, bloody lovely.
Tonight I am currently eating a big bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes.

Yeah couldn't use my cooker (haven't paid the gas bill :D) so it was microwave or Forman grill time - since I had already made the mix (defrosted spinach, beat a few eggs, bit of milk garlic n chili and added some crushed up feta ) it was either microwave it or chuck it (can you keep uncooked broken eggs?). I know you do not like eggs - but it was pretty tasty. I will be making a few variations of it in the coming weeks (next version will be layers of sliced potatoes, then this mix poured on top and baked.

I love fish finger sarnies - made a post about eating them once and got told to fuck off :D
