No (well I'm not sure, actually.. don't think so), but Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall writes about eating them a fair bit. Apparently all you need to do is purge their bellies prior to eating them, by keeping them in a tub and feeding them clean lettuce for a few days.

Common or garden British snails are the same species the French eat afaik. You do need to purge them on lettuce (or presumably any other "clean" plantstuff - herbs would seem a sensible choice, kinda like an internal marinade). I've never eaten snails and can't say they appeal.

Dins tonight consisted of leftover chicken tikka cut wiv frozen prawn curry then further cut with instant tikka sauce made from Patak's spice paste and bobz. Chicken was much better today cos it seemed to tenderise it soaking up some extra sauce (I overcooked it yesterday so was a bit dry). Planning cake 'n' custard for pud shortly. Bought a Nestle "tray bake" ferra quid t'other day which was a bit of a bargain. Apparently a "tray bake" is much like a giant brownie with lashings of choccy icing/sauce-type stuff and assorted Nestle products scattered atop. It's already quite moisty but seems to be crying out for custard and it just so happens that Ambrosia is on offer at the moment. Ambrosia custard is one of those rare foodstuffs which really is better tinned. I've never had custard from scratch (as in Creme Anglaise - posh custard) but Ambrosia is much better than any powdered variety I've had. Not sure quite what they do with their custard but it's a bit yummy <3

Mm, is it time for an EADD baking competition yet, then? Submissions to be sent to Shambles?

I've already challenged Pagey to a bake-off cos she seems to be labouring under the misapprehension that her peanut butter cake could be better than my Jamaican rum 'n' coconut (and lime) cake. Clearly this could only be a case of temporary insanity but equally clearly the only way to dispense with her delusions is via the medium of a bake-off. This could certainly be expanded to include greater numbers of participants. I'm definitely not biased in any way shape or form so am clearly the obvious choice of judge. The fact my own bakery skills are inevitably superior is incidental. Second place is perfectly respectable and - under the circumstances - the best anybody else could possibly hope for.

Coincidentally yes, but only because I have a giraffe-like diet.

Sorry Shambles. Both horrible ingredients. Pagey wins by default.

To clarify what such a cake actually consists of, the coconut bit is much like the filling of a Bounty bar. I was rather chuffed when I first came across the recipe cos am very partial to a Bounty bar and this coconut filling is identical as far as I can tell.

Cake 'n' custard recently consumed. Was improved by being served warm with hot custard. Also discovered that mini Rolos are really tasty when heated to the point the toffee/caramel stuff in the middle is all melty but the choccy coating is still firm. Similar applies to mini Smarties. Munchies were full-size so didn't melty in the middle so much but precedent has been set so I'll presume they also benefit from a lil light meltiness.

I can't live without this shiz, it's amazing.

I found out recently that it makes a really nice drink if mixed with hot water. I'll often throw in some green tea, Echinacea or ginseng into the mix for a gorgeous tasting drink.

Minutes after drinking it, my whole body starts to tingle in a warm way as if to say "thank you!! this is so good for me!!" gives you energy and improves your mood, detoxifies you, oddly improves eyesight and er... Chinese herbs to restore your chi.

Had pork medallions wiv apple and Calvados sauce with basmati. Was tasty but overcooked the pork. Don't trust undercooked pork but they really don't take long to cook. Am quite liking the new Co-Op "recipe inna box" thingies. Not cheap (unless reduced like this one) but handy having all necessaries together. Especially when only cooking for one when it works out very pricey buying separate ingredients. Get to expand dins variety too. Good good.

Am sat here eagerly awaiting a big platefull of bangers & mash that my friend is busy making at the moment. Can't wait do it, I love mashed potato.

Another member of the Mashed Potato Fan Club I see. Food of the gods so it is <3

Have sausages needing cooking tonight for tomorrow. Probably gonna be a stew. Possibly curry but do likes me a stew. Although is getting a bit warm for stew cos it's quite heavy so may end up curry instead. Decisions decisions.
