Please, Neil Diamond is more creative and more influential in a single sequin on his jacket than anything Lydon inflicted upon the music world.

i'm quite a fan of Neil Diamond TBH, a truly great voice and seem to mean every word, love his version of Mr Bogangles.

You're either trolling on this one or just plain ignorant on the subject, have you ever listened to Metal Box or First Edition ???..... I thought not

I'm a fan of industrial music a phrase coined by Throbbing Gristle in the 70's another genuinely innovative and hugely influential band many of which went on to form the equally epic Psychic TV.

None of this stuff is supposed to be easy listening like Neil Diamond, it's music that does explore the darker side of reality and crosses over into performance art at times, not all music needs to be so superficial that it can be instantly enjoyed as it comes out of the radio in you car, although such stuff has a place.

I have tried to cultivate a wide and varied taste in music, to suggest that a band that clearly pushed boundaries and created a genuinely unique sound are talentless purely because you are too narrow minded to appreciate anything more than the musical equivalent of a Dan Brown Novel says a lot about you but nothing about the music which has already proven its worth by the large numbers of people that purchased it.

There has been some truly great music made as a direct result of Punk /Industrial and genuine New wave bands like ;-

Pigface

Damage Manual

NIN

and so many more, bands like The Pistols PIL TG and Psychic TV totally broke the mould and changed the way people thought about music which was stuck in a rut of 15 minute guitar solos and tedious soft rock which offered nothing for those looking for music that they could really identify with.

Your expectations of music seem to be that anything you don't understand is dismissed out of hand as rubbish, all music deserves some respect especially when it trying to move things on or create something new, you'll find that most popular genres have their roots in a much more niche area that is then diluted to give it a wider appeal.

Check out David Bowie, influenced by the like of Kraftwerk and The Stooges or MoterHead influenced by The Sex Pistols, MC5 ( so far ahead of there time folk like you would have said they were shite)....then work on from there influenced by Bowie, NIN , Radiohead whom incidentally opnelly site PILs Metal Box as a strong precursor to the sounds they developed, U2 alos site PILs work as a massive influence on their sound specifically the guitar of Keith Levene .

The Pistols were a huge influence on so many, U2, Depeche Mode, Wire, The Jam, Moterhead, Joy Division Nirvana to name only a few.

Music is a constant mixing table and it's the pioneers that provide the step changes, The Pistols took influences from elsewhere but created a whole new sound and attitude albeit short lived, PIL took some of that but in a totally new direction and released something in Metal Box that was totally unexpected and genuinely different creating a genre all of it's own by disregarding the established rules, other did the same, without them main stream music would not exist .

Next already do.

OTW - A Bob Marley Occupy t-shirt? Really? You try so hard at being a prick.

As a general rule T shirts with any logo or design on them a fekin lame, there are a few exceptions but that does not include random pictures of surfboards, Mr Men or jokes about drinking bear or being a sex maniac.

Band names on T shirts is shaky ground IMO, if its an iconic image rather than just an advert for said artist maybe, people with a modicum of style will judge this stuff with ease.

A middle class white bloke wearing a Bob Marley T shirt....please......ohh look at me I'm very liberal an open minded and love those rasta peoples music

That reminds me of a bloke I knew that fancied himself as a white rasta, he had no idea about the actual religion just like a smoke basically. he did a tattoo on the inside of his bottom lip saying RASTA, which quickly faded to PASTA, he is still referred to as Pasta Barry to this day:D

Haha =D

I'm torn on logo/picture shirts. Got a Paddy's Pub one off of Always Sunny that I love but is now a size or two too big, and got Dropkick Murphys one, Warped Records logo, and a Restiform Bodies shirt I adore. Got a Blondie 2010 tour t-shirt too and a Download 2007 one but they don't get much wear except for around the house.

There's also a Frankie Say Relax t-shirt somewhere...oh man.

Like I said those with style know what is OK and what is not, you question what is or isn't so are clearly quite capable of a discerning choice.

I have a few T shirts with stuff on them, a Super Dry one with a big number 23 on it, a Green Addidas one with a camouflage logo on it, one with the API logo on it ( I'll not explain) and a distressed Pistols God save the Queen one. I probably have other that I can't remember.

Its a subtle thing, some stuff is fine the some stuff advertises you as a total cock, white middle class block wearing a brand new very clan Bob Marley T shirt is at the wrong and of the scale IMHO, in the same league as the short sleeve formal shirt the uniform of styles sados and Old Bill.

Sports socks for anything other than sport, motorcycle jackets if you don't ride ( it may be possible to pull this off but only the accomplished Hipster can do so) brown leather shoes with jeans and a random suit jacket, chinos , T-shirts tucked into trousers, those fekin hideous Clarks shoes come trainers with smart trousers ....I could go on but I'm sensing you already have this list;)

Pasta barry should join these guys, they'd think he was the messsiah http://praguemonitor.com/2013/08/05...-kitchen-utensil-official-religious-head-gear

I have an original virgin t-shirt with this logo on, its the only logo t-shirt I own. I love it but its a bit short for me and I don't want it to go to the charity shop

Any girl out there size 8-10 with a washboard stomach who wants it I'll post it to them :) (OTW need not apply despite his penchant for low scoop necks with a fitted cut that also allows for bosoms)

I've got T - Shirts older than some posters on this site & i still wear em . I have a Stussy 1993 vintage that is still cool as fuk in fact they have started making similar versions of it recently .

Be a tad more specific please if you can please Miss W . Do you mean the place right at the top of Walcot ST. Near where the Hat N Feather ( Best Pub Ever <3 ) was ? If so yes .

Are you still blaming your pathetic life on a class system? What is this 1936? Jesus, I'm just a snot nose kid from Horowhenua who walked to school along train tracks and played rugby in winter bare foot. I guess I was never given an easy excuse not to work hard and make the most of life, but by all means make assumptions and point the finger like some sort of marxist martyr.

I was actually born in the spiritual home of reggae, we even get a public holiday on Marley's birthday. To suggest you need to hail Haile Selassie I as the second coming in order to play rhythm guitar with an off beat skank is a perfect example why some people will for ever be stuck in their council flat rut, cursing to their mardy wife that the world owes them something. I bet you refused to play cricket as a kid because only the upper class can have impossibly white whites.

Punk is shit. It was shit in the 70's and no amount of historical turd polishing will change that. To try and hoist Lydon up onto the shoulders of musical heaven with the likes of Elvis, James Brown, Muddy Waters, Bob Marley or even Neil Diamond is a bloody outrage, one that I will not sit silent and tolerate.

Good day to you sir.

I'm shocked...you impertinent young whipper snapper :D

(Elvis FFS fat over rated and thankfully deceased) the others would all applaud the work of Mr Lydon as they are credible musicians who would recognise someone pushing the boundaries and not being afraid to create rather then produce commercially established material. I didn't just mention Lydon either although I happen to know a fair bit about him. The influence of the bands I listed have shaped the main stream stuff you hold so dear, I'd venture Marely would have respected PIL for their use of Dub beats in a completely new setting.

Lydon was largely responsible for bringing Dub and a whole load a reggae to the UK when he went scouting with Richard Branson after the Pistols broke up.

You are an ignoramus sir, you haven't even listen to the music which you are so keen to condemn, it's not even eloquent trolling

What you wanted was never made clear
Behind the image was ignorance and fear
You hide behind his public machine
You still follow same old scheme

Emperor Selassie lived up the road from my Grand Parents & that is a FACT.

What is your fukin deal with Local Authority Housing eh ?

Some of the Council Places that were sold off by the Tories in my city you would never be able to afford . There is a lot of bad L.A housing but there are also plenty of good ones .

Lol what a crock of shit

LOL, you soooo did not just write that.

What else are you guilty of by association? I bet this is how you justify your cross-dressing habits =D

Even our national anthem is played in a 4/4 time with accents the second and fourth beats. I have never met a Maori who couldn't play Many Rivers to cross on a busted 5 string acoustic guitar. I'm sorry you didn't read these things in your limited history books. They probably told you that the English discovered Van Diemen's Land, am I wrong?
