If you are sober enough to be able to buy a tour shirt at the gig then you are doing it wrong.

I'm sure I could dig out my Def Leppard one but it might be in the wash. My favourite is still my Bob Marley one...

I would photoshop 'i am a bellend' onto your tshirt in this photo.....but you speak for yourself.

I have a life obviously ceres so I'll leave it to the sad and pathetic to do it for me.

I draw the line at hair metal. Punks are just too much of a pussy movement for me. They say they, "Don't give a fuck" but are still worried about who's wearing what and whether or not this is punk enough.

Lemmy on the other hand just doesn't give a fuck period.

Just walk through Camden Allein, that red n black stripey jumper is like the Camden sliced loaf ... it'd soon put you off.

I like it too tho, can't deny it.

I have a few long sleeved stripey black n red fitted tees

I wouldn't even try to pull off that look these days, I don't really do style any more but I'm still quite fussy about what I do wear.

I've been attending quite a few classic scooter meets of late and some of the middle aged comedy mods are truly appalling, I like rocking up on my army green scoot with a leather jacket on ....the soviet army theme foes down a treat with the Nazi contingent as well:D

I think it is actually a girls shirt but given that I am not a fat fucker I can still pull it off. I had a waitress in Malibu flirt with me due to that shirt so it is staying in my wardrobe.

Real Punk was pretty much over before it started, IMO. A very short lived but massively influential time for music, bands went on but in truth the essence of Punk wasn't sustainable, as soon as it became a style it was over in that respect.

Lemmy is a fekin legend, it doesn't matter what he wears, that's not really the point, he's cracking on a bit these days though.

I'm pretty sure the Occupy movement had more sustained staying power than the Punk movement. Henry Rollins is perhaps the only punk front man who truly walks the walk.

No one but the British ever really did Punk...and certainly not the Americans.

IMO it was a fairly small movement centered around the art colleges of London and the Kings Road, sure there was influence from American bands but they were not Punk.

Iggy for example was massive influence on early UK Punk but by it's very being it was a reaction against the bland progressive rock scene in the UK.

The Pistols truly tore down the established idea of music, but as a consequence Punk very quickly became a commodity, something the Americans understood ....Punk they did not.

Some great bands followed and are often banded as Punk but would not have done so themselves :-

The Clash ( OK so they were kinds of around all along but Londons Calling aint Punk)
The Buzzcocks
The Jam
Blondie

....I struggle to think of anyone after 1978 that could be called remotely Punk

The Sex Pistols? Really Allein? They would be the epitome of corporate sell outs. For all the talk of shaking up the establishment they were nothing more than one big advertisement for the Punk Scene™.

To me the whole Punk scene is nothing more than grubby out casts who never even had the social conscious to fight for anything they believed in. They were the 70's version of todays teenager emo, sulking about because their parents won't let them paint their bedroom black and picking fights with each other because they couldn't fight their way out of a crowded bus on a Friday night.

You wouldn't understand. No, you really wouldn't.

You seem to know very little about the actual facts and are basing your views on the popular press.

Like many great bands they were formed in a rather haphazard manner and much of their sound came from necessity, Steve Jones guitar style for example bon out of the lack of a decent bass player after Glen got bumped .

Almost all there material was written prior to them recording and was the result of the turbulent and confrontational nature of the relationship between Glen, John and the rest of the band. Have you seen footage of those early '76 gigs in art collages ...truly ground breaking and when you look at the main fans ( the Bromley Contingent) you see so many who would later become famous ( susie Sioux for example )

Yes the American tour was a farce but they were numerous reasons for that, ultimately they should never have gone there, like I said the American's just didn't get it, watch the footage it's clear they are looking for a parody and don't get it.

John Lydon went on ro form PIL and record First Edition then Second Edition / Metal Box in 1979, these albums were a massive influence on a great deal of music that followed and there impact is difficult to comprehend today, the performance of Careering on the Old Grey Whistle Test is truly one of the most intense performances I've ever seen.

Appreciation of music is very personal thing, but to pas off the Pistols as a Corporate sellout is plain nonsence and fails to understand much of the message.

.....ever feel like you've been cheated?

Never, I use torrents.

I'm guessing you don't originate in the UK, I've noted your endless trolling of the forum, sometime witty sometimes plain benarl.

Those words were said by John Lydon at the very last Sex Pistols concert at the Winter Ball Room in San Francisco Jan 78, the band had imploded for a number of reasons not least Sid's drug issues and tention within the band, possibly being orchestrated by McLaren who may have wantd the band to break up for allsorts of reasons.

McLaren neither created the Pistols or Punk, he was instrumental in getting Lydon into the band and ban rolled a grimy rehearsal location, Vivian Westwood provided clothes but the band only wore what they wanted, the track Submision on the NMTBC album is testament to the bands contempt for Malcolm marketing pretentions.

It seems clear Lydon wanted to move the music on, in fairness they had been playing pretty much the same set since '76 and the loss of Matlock was problematic as far as producing material as that had been the dynamic that formed the unique sound. The NMTB album has gone down as a classic that has stood the test of time, it was not a crude recording as many thought but a well thought out and complex piece of production, with many guitar and drum tracks as well as Lydons unique lyrics and vocals, much copied ...take a look at Oasis.

It would have been esy for Lydon to just form a new 'Punk' band after the pistols but instead he helped Richard Branson bring Regea and Dub to the UK and you can here the dub influence in PILs work. The track Public Image reflects his view of the situation and a need to distance himself from the now commoditised Punk scene.

Metal Box was truly well beyond it's time, not all will like its industrial sound but given they could have knocked out some run of the mill Pistol esc tracks and made a killing it was a massively brave move, not only in the content but in the format....3 X 12 inches in a metal can, Keith Levenes guitar sound has been copied by many including U2s Edge and asI said their performance of Poptones and Careering on the Old Grey Whistle test is something to behold, intense does not do it justice.

Much material followed some great, the lost Commercial Zone album is more genius from the original line up fusing industrial with dub later albums and line ups explored many different soundsand many different collaborative works, none of which tried to cash in on the Pistols Legendry status.

Yes there have been reunions wioth the original line up, I went to one a few years ago and it was fuking great, I bit of a parody but done tongue in cheek and for peoples enjoyment.

One of he most influential bands of our time and for very good reason, the music scene would not be the same today without them, I struggle to think of another band that genuinely influenced our culture and and music is such a radical way in such a short period of time, if you don't see at least some of that you are running very close to ignorance on the subject.

Please, Neil Diamond is more creative and more influential in a single sequin on his jacket than anything Lydon inflicted upon the music world.
