Dallas Buyers club is a great movie.
 
Didn't like it - The guy was the biggest tool I've ever been expected to sympathise with by a hollywood film. He deserved to die of Aids for being such a misogynistic, homophobic cunt to start with.

He was homophobic so deserved to die of Aids?
 
No, obviously not - just thought it was a bit much to be asked to accept this 'transformation' when it was totally driven by circumstances/self-interest.
 
We don't know what he was like as a person though, some people say he might even have been a gay guy himself - he was portrayed in a certain way because film school rule 1 is 'make sure there's a journey'.

I'm glad of his self-interest, his need for money :) - it was ultimately for the better. I personally didn't think the transformation was too much to accept or understand?
 
I just think the whole 'homophobe to hero' thing was a bit of a cynical embellishment of the true story.

It all boils down to the fact that one of my favourite films of the year, out at the same time - "Inside Lleweyn Davis" - got lambasted by some because the main character is supposedly unsympathetic. He's a (basically decent) guy who is stuck in a rut, as opposed to a nasty piece of work who's forced to be good by circumstance.

Sorry Spud - not having a go, just don't follow your train of thought. Whats the true story ? A guy got a disease that only non patented pharms would treat, failing to be able to secure any other form of income he sold xyz drug to the market that needed them for profit. After seeing that the 'system - that he was part of' was fucking him and people like him over he said enough is enough ? Lets milk this - keep myself alive, and fuck the system?
 
Yeah all that's true, I just found the character to be a bit of a nasty piece of work who had not done much heroic to redeem himself by the end. Just feathered his own nest and made a bit of money on the side (till he let some people off paying when it was right towards the end).

Nothing wrong with that, but I just felt there wasn't much life-affirming about it.
 
Yeah love Afro Samurai as well. Only problem is, ive seen both series like 5 times each hah :p. Working my way through Bleach atm, but fancy a full-length extravaganza
 
Full metal alchemist aye? I recognise the name, but will have to look further into that one. Aaaaaah wait shit yeah i have seen that one. When you say Cowboy Bebop do you mean the series or is there a decent full length sorta hing? The series is good stuff :D Apparently Samurai Champloo is meant to be just as good as Bebop, but havnt seen it myself yet. Are you quite the anime fan? I only ask cos from the ones youve listed it sounds like our tastes may be similar, so can recommend a few if youz fancy.

And surprisingly i havnt actually seen the original. Althoouuuugh, when you say good ket film, is that cos its pretty mindless action with amazing animation or is it the full shabang? Many people would consider for a anime to be the full shabang, then it must contain tentacle rape, but as much as the idea of a cartoon women being savagely raped in all her orpheuses (sp?) by numerous tentacles all attached to either a demon or alien, is extrmely erotic and not only that, but highly intelligent as well, in the way they have altered the once humble tentacle, ever so slightly, so it now looks like a penis. Really groundbreaking stuff. Anyway my point was that preferably no tentacle rape please haha
 
Edge of Tomorrow - Yes its all been done before, yes its Tom Cruise - forget that and just watch it :D
