8 Ball, I find a strange term, because it's much more an American term, and I always forget how much is in an 8 ball. I think it's 3.5 grams but really I'm not sure, nor do I know why it's called an 8 ball in the first place.

As sustanon said it does make sense, it's called an 8ball because it's an eighth of an ounce. Personally I don't have a problem with that term because I think it's useful to have both metric and imperial measurements, I think ounces, quarter ounces and eighth of ounces really fills a gap that the metric system leaves - yeah you could say 28 grams, 7 grams and 3.5 grams, but for me it's much easier to visualise/conceptualise an 'ounce' rather than 28 grams, and so on.

But that's because you've grown up calling things ounces, half oz. etc. If you'd grown up saying '14er' instead of 'halfer' it'd be just as easy to visualise.
With that being said, I think the imperial system is phonically better. I'd much rather say an ounce than 28 grams as it just sounds more elegant imo.

These measurements are called imperial measurements and are British.

They originated there, but the US is the main place that still uses them officially. The UK uses metric units (generally).
