misscelestia said:Look, to each his own - I just think that it is people like you that perpetuate these stereotypes. By saying that people with dreads are "attentionwhores" you are totally judging them on ONE thing. I mean, you don't judge people by the colour of the hair or skin, do you? It's one thing to say you don't like it, esthetically, but to make a statement about a person's personality based on their hairstyle is seriously judging a book by its cover.

Actually, its a very important part of several religions...

I think it's funny that you generalize and were somehow granted a divine omniscience to know who is a "stereotypical dreader" and who isn't... what their real reasons are and if they're valid or not...

So it is perfectly natural, its the hairstyle everyone had before combs were invented.
doofqueen said:I had braide extensins put in my hair 2 mths ago an half the roots are starting to dread up. I was actualy planning on cutting them all off and shaving my head when the roots got too noticeable (maybe at the 6mth period) because the braides start to get quite heavy because they are attached to fine bits of hair (and my hair is quite fine anyway) but i saw a girl last weekend with braides with about 20cms of roots and she had perfectly shaped dreads underneath and they just looked awesome and she just had all her hair piled up in a head scarf on the top of her head (i imagine because they were extremely long at that stage) so i'm just going to do that now. Wait for them to grow really really long and then cut off the braides when i have the dreads underneath long enough to wear by themselves. Yay i'm making dread again and they will be naturally formed ones (sortove hehe) and i'm going to keep them my natural light brown colour so no dyes (which for anyone who knows me is a big deal!)see how long that last though aye?
hehe

keystroke said:maybe back in the dinosaur era, as far as I can tell, it was only ever a natural occurence in specific regions of the world and for certain religious beliefs.
keystroke said:I still don't follow on the "tribal" or "primitive" side of things though - that's all I don't understand - I didn't think anyone was "tribal" in Australia unless they were aboriginal?
I take it "tribal" meaning "belongs to a tribe"
