Does it annoy you when some ppl refer to marijuana as "dope"?

To me: Dope = Heroin. A bunch of my friends back in Cali were into Meth and when they were thinking about getting a sack, they were all "Lets get some Dope?" to which I simply said "My dope, or your dope?"

Lol at the whole "my dope or your dope" thing. Thata how my ex and i were. She liked crystal and i like "hairron" as they say out here. Then i turned her to the H side and she started calling heroin dope. She also turned me onto calling meth "tweak". So it was "get some tweak or some dope?"
 
I always called Meth "shit" or "glass". "Shit" is the most used nontraditional name they use for Meth in SoCal. Traditional ones being Crystal, Tweak, etc etc.

Yup here where i live in Atlantic Canada dope always meant hash or sometimes weed. Usually hash though. People just called heroin smack or just heroin. Granted until recently there was very little in the way of heroin here as there where more then enough pharms going around to fill the demand of the market.

Ive never heard anyone in Canada refer to heroin as dope actually but then again Ive never been to the west coast either.

To stick to the subject, the only time I heard people refer to weed as "dope" was when I was studying in New-Mexico. Mostly old-timers...
But yeah if I was living in the USA and heard that on a regular basis it would probably piss me off. For me, dope= heroin.

no it doesnt bother me, it makes me think of trailer park boys. it also reminds me of my visit to the psych ward, where i was discussing drugs with another patient (we were both in for amphetamine psychosis lol) and he referred to weed, heroin, and meth as "dope" but referred to everything else by their actual name, or a common slang. dope originally just meant drugs in general, its a slang older than meth or heroin were even in existence.
 
Pretty sure "dope" is derived from a drugs interactions with dopamine. Makes the most sense to me
 
Talking about France, we got a similar problem over here.
One of the most used slang word for heroin there, is "Came" (pronounced (?) like "kam" or something...). A term that some people use; much to the annoyment (sp?) of H users; to talk about cannabis (in that case, mostly youngsters or drug-naive individuals) and (sometimes) cocaine.
Sounds similar to the "dope" situation for you Americans...
 
ha, when my mum has got sand in her vagina and goes off of on some long-winded, ill-informed, rant about my drug use over the years, she does tend to use it for bud. Oh and yes, it annoys me a lot...especially in that context, where she also likes to say I've been brain-damaged etc.
 
I've only ever heard older people use the term dope, and they're usually anti-drug people. I have never heard anyone in my generation use the term.

I've heard "smoking dope" and "shooting dope". With smoking, I've heard it used for cannabis, meth, crack, whatever. If it's an illegal drug and you smoke it = dope.
 
Yes. I've always thought that. Dope is meth. Period. People need to get with the times. The word dope use to mean weed decades ago but the word since evolved to a new meaning. Hittin the pookie! Even the cops refer to meth as dope.

Some what but to each there own everybody has there own slang.

To me dope is that boy
but alot of people I know call meth dope along with shit lol

Had an incident one time tryimg to cop anf thought a guy had h turns out to be tweak.
met up to get and everything before we found out there was a misunderstanding, he might have even known and was just hoping id get some shard either way I was bummed the fuck out.

It's pretty much just cops and non drug users who call it that here. Yea in most parts of the States it's just used for H but I have heard in some areas it's used for meth.

Lol me and a friend of mine used to sometimes jokingly refer to weed as dope and say something like "want to smoke some dope" and laugh making fun of the fact people call it dope.

At least that's not as bad as this kid I knew who tried to buy a dime of weed and some how got crack instead.

It annoys me... but not for any rational reason. You just know when we're old our kids are going to talking about how annoying our out of date slang is.

"Back in my day we used to call it grass"
- "Why would you call it that?"
"Because back then we couldn't buy it at walmart like today"

Calling weed dope is somewhat irritating.... but what causes constant frustration to me is using the term "narcotic" to refer to "any drug that's socially unacceptable".

METH IS NOT A NARCOTIC DANG NAMMIT!
