Does it annoy you when some ppl refer to marijuana as "dope"?

It doesn't annoy me. That's just what it was called.

I have had funny misunderstanding, thinking that the person was talking about meth but really meant weed LOL.

It's very lame. Where I come from meth is a big problem and a lot of people fall glass dope. But it's not, dope is Diacetyl.

Around here meth is often referred to as "crack" or smoking the "crack pipe" which is far more annoying.

Of the two drugs I would say cannabis is more likely to create a dopey user.

i've only heard people 50+ years old call it dope. they also call it grass.

I was just reading through this thread thinking something along the same lines. maybe it's sort of a cultural thing as well as a generational thing ...I mean, who here has seen Cheech & Chong's "Up In Smoke"? I can't remember what year that movie was made in, but I am pretty sure that they refer to marijuana as "dope" several times throughout the production. Haven't seen that movie in forever -I love it!
I realize that "movies" isn't the topic here, but I do think that people from that generation are more likely to make that blunder.

dope to me is heroin. That's how it'll always be.

But it's a regional thing I know. I went to Daytona Beach once and 'dope' down there was crack. Watching Dog the Bounty Hunter on tv I learned 'dope' was meth in Hawaii.
soo yeah.

no, it doesnt bother me. i'm 25 and it is how some generations refer to it, so why the fuck create pointless conversation about "its not called dope, mannnn. it's called weed, tree, bud, dank" fuck it, if you've ever seen TRAILER PARK BOYS then you think its funny to refer to cannabis as dope...

also why is the OP calling it marijuana in the thread title? thats a bullshit name people called it back in the early 20th century and it became illegal as marijuana. the word originated in Mexican spanish and had an H in it. referring to the name maria juana became mary jane, folklore or not - the US adapted the j and went on to influence the spanish and french to using the word marijuana and the reefer madness surrounding spanish/black ethnicity is why it was kept and branded illegal as the word marijuana...

cheers :p

It's the dumbest fucking word for any drug in my opinion.

Same thing with "Shit"

"Yo let's get some shit."
"Yo lets grab some dope."

Sounds dumb.

Its all generational, and regional as well.

60s & 70s: Dope = Cannabis
East coast: Dope = Heroin.
West coast: Dope = Meth (typically, depending on exact location)

To me: Dope = Heroin. A bunch of my friends back in Cali were into Meth and when they were thinking about getting a sack, they were all "Lets get some Dope?" to which I simply said "My dope, or your dope?"

I've only heard one person call Meth "dope". Most of my friends would call meth "tina" or "crystal". I only got it in LA so it could be a regional thing. The one person I heard call meth "dope" lived in rancho cucamonga. She had this written on her sneakers: "smoke dope til the day i die" :|

Same thing with "Shit"
Shit could be anything. Great for being vague around non-users. Would you prefer that someone says,"Yo let's get some freebase/heroin/methamphetamine," out in public?

I've heard of crystal. Usually called Krystal so it sounds like a girl. Only ones I've heard use Tina are gay people.

I think it's more funny than annoying because marijuana has totally different effects than heroin. What kind of annoys me is when people use dope as a catch-word for all opiates.

Nah, it's pretty common to call marijuana "dope" here in New Zealand.

What annoys me more is hearing some Americans refer to methamphetamine as "dope". I mean, what the hell? :p

yeah I occasionally will use shit when communicating with someone where its better for me to avoid drug names or nicknames. I rather not everyone know my business so I don't like really discussing say drug use out in public, but there are times I am out in public and have to inquire while avoiding certain words. Constantly exchanging the word shit for other ones constantly is kinda annoying, but I do feel for some people that accidentally get stuck in the habit of saying it to often with out meaning too. I also understand when someone is really fucked up on certain drugs it may be because its a lot harder to use full complete sentences, and substituting shit helps someone else understand what they are talking about (You know when you are trying to talk and forget half of what you said in the middle of the sentence for whatever reason <-- happens frequently on psychedelic drugs).

No it doesn't bother me. Ive heard people refer to dope as their doc, whatever it may be. Im tired of the word though it feels worn out.

not really no.

i still use the term dope for weed and as slang for opioids when i'm talking with friends, a habit i picked up from bl. i picked up the "dack" (for weed) from my old man (nearing his 60's) and his mates and love it for some reason.

dack, not dank. you heard right.

yes.

honestly i dont really like when people call anything but heroin dope

i know lots of people that call meth dope n i understand language isnt fixed n it evolves n it depends on who is using it but to me DOPE = HEROIN

tho i understand for some dope can also be meth

but yea definatly dont call weed dope, only time i hear people calling weed dope is oldtimers or someone makin a joke bout 'dope smokin'
