Discussing drugs on the phone or by SMS

Yeah, I don't really see the correlation... I think there are intelligent heroin users and not so intelligent users.. (forgetting about the fact that using H to begin with isn't so intelligent). I know a lot of drug users who are incredible intellectuals, have great grammar and vocab, and can have a dialogue about anything... I know others who talk like street urchins.. It's really just a personality type, because there are plenty of people that had the schooling, etc. but choose to talk like morons/ghetto/whatever.

i agree with Mr. S here. i think it has more to do with personality than drug use. some people just text as few words/letters as possible, seeing the idea of texting as a shortcut. shit i know people with masters degrees who just text the standard "omw, c u there". personally, i try to text exactly as if i were speaking, which is to say not exactly with perfect grammar but as an extension of my "linguistic self". and i think drug user who texts under the influence has the potential to come across sounding retarded. the screen is small, they may forget what they've previously said, think faster than they can type or vice-versa...

there are also a few reasons i think texting is a great advantage in drug culture. it gives you the opportunity to build a character for yourself, which is especially useful for one-time buys or for interacting with a hook you don't really give a shit about. you can mask your true emotions when dealing with people in a fragile situation, for example a frustrating hook you want to keep or a group buy/middle-manning situation that's pissing you off. and the biggest one is that it leaves less room for error. you can make arrangements on the phone and then double up with a text, or simply use a text as a written record of what's supposed to go down without leaving a chance of being misheard.

I know this might seem stupid for me to post about this

Yes, very. R u a girl?

Who cares? Some ppl text well, others don't. Some ppl dnt speak English well and they were born in this country. I apologize we dnt live up to ur standards :p

I'm sure ur a fine person, but god ur entire OP was annoying and self-righteous. U shud change ur username to "future english teacher"

Lololol. I swear, everyone who nitpicks other peoples' grammar can't even keep errors out of their own speech/writing.

Just because you had to be a hypocrite, and point out that I was somehow nitpicking grammar while being incorrect (something you here are guilty of), I just felt the need to DESTROY you.

For starters, "Irony is not lost on me." is grammatically correct.

What this was really referring to was the fact that irony is a concept that does not escape my powers of observation.

Not THEIR irony, which would be incorrect anyway, because he was not trying to be ironic. "Their" is the mistake that was ironic, not an intentional irony of "theirs". It would further be "his/her irony", as "their" would imply two people said that sentence.

I also cannot myself nitpick grammatical inaccuracies in speech. Do you know someone who is able to?

Once again:

Irony is not lost on me.

I'm sure there is an app for that...... There is a drunk dialing/texting app that allows you to lock your phone from certain numbers so you cannot text or call them. But intelligence aside really if you're addicted & it's your dealer & you really, really want it does it really matter how they text you? If you want it bad enough it could be a text in hyroglyfics as long as you can get what you're after. I had no idea that this was a issue.

Some of them text like 8 year olds, but actually a few dealers that supply me with oxy and whatnot are quite intelligent and write to me properly. I even have chats to a supplier of mine about his family, and life in general sometimes. It's actually quite nice, and we get along. Cannabis dealers seem to be the worst though for me. Constantly off their nut but sometimes literally can't understand a word they say. So irritating - but I don't smoke weed so not a problem for me.

I feel lucky to have a dealer that texts normally, the only time when she didn't make sense was after she shot a speedball and I was trying to ask her a question. She was able to spell correctly, her words just didn't make sense.

I've had awful guy dealers that think they're total bad asses though, and like someone mentioned, tried to make up their own slang and shit.

But I mean, as long as you can understand them, why does it really matter I suppose, even if you can be a grammar nazi, as long as you're getting your shit, you = happy. :)

Oh god i hate when dealers like to make up their own slang!! ^^ My dealer barely speaks english and sometimes his texts are so funny you literally have to sound out each word he wrote because he writes english words as he hears them. I try and correct him sometimes, not in a rude or condescending way, just letting him know how the word is spelled in english by spelling it correctly in the reply text. Im not like OMG that is not how you spell - - - -! I actually don't care anymore, if he cared about English he would learn, its not my place to correct him and i always understand what he says so its all good.

DoomMooD-- I think Rhun was actually referring to escaped dysphoria when they said **their. Whatever maybe im wrong who cares.

Oh my-... Chill out.
I wasn't talking to YOU. I was referring to what you quoted.
I just noticed this, so I'll just PM.
But yes, ohshea is correct.

Uhhh...alot of people are bad at texting. It's texting, it's not supposed to be perfect grammar, especially coming from a dealer :/ Just be happy he serves you good shit.

IME junkies have sent me more coherent texts than a lot of non-drug users.

for example:
"bring smokes" (the most common text ive recieved from junkies, phrased exactly like that. every time, without fail)
is more coherent than:
"so lyk cum 4 ur gurl [name]'s bday jardy this satday @ 8! ! ! !" (a generally phrased text [although this particular text is an actual text i recieved a few days ago] that gets sent to me in different, yet equally aggravating variations, all the time by unknown numbers, who turn out to be people I know, yet avoid socializing with for fear of the possibility that stupidity is contagious).

junkies just send really simplified sentences in text. on facebook or AIM, however, it's not uncommon that a junkie will text me something along the lines of:
"sofm
heay man, imn oddding soodjke
fjffj"

this is just the experience i have with junkies and texting. your local junkies may be more prone to incoherency, or less.

Junky's -> ownership
"The Junky's phone."

Junkies -> plural
"Junkies and texting..."

.

ah god damnit RL :p

you got him too

saddest part is, once i realised what the thread was about i was lookin for shit to correct, but my grammer sucks so bad i didnt even notice that one, the one i found wasnt even grammatical just wrong word

I think the majority of people who replied completely missed the point of this thread. First of all, I'm not being a grammar nazi... I don't give a shit if your grammar isn't perfect, and I never stated that I did. Second of all, I'm not being a spell check nazi either.... also never stated that I was doing this either. Third of all, I never stated that "I" was perfect at the English language. Of course I make lots of mistakes when typing just like everyone else does. What i was trying to say is that as a general rule in my experience, if I am texting someone who is a Junky...more times than not... their replies don't make OVERALL sense. I'm not talking about little tiny mistakes in there grammar, I'm saying that these people send me replies that make absolutely no sense, and more often than not, I have to actually text these people and ask them what they are even talking about.

My theory was more about the fact that I think this problem may be due to the general "Junky" personality type or their common innaccuracies as due on a more personality/situational experience than anything else.

I definitely don't think it is H that causes anything like this to happen, because H doesn't affect my typing (unless I'm nodding the FUCK out, but we all know that you usually aren't NODDING the FUCK OUT when you are using heroin a lot, it's more likely that you are either pleasently high, or sick)

From the replies that I've gotten so far, I think my theory has proved innacurate with no validity whatsoever... but I will say that in my own experience I have seen this theory prove itself many times over.
