Film "Cult Films" That Disappointed You?

I thought Boondocks was......OK. I felt it was hyped a bit.
I love Donnie Darko, but it has to be the directors cut to make a bit more sense.
I saw Clerks and Mallrats when they first came out as a young teen and thought they were really funny and spot on. Now though.....kind of dated for sure.
I got a bootleg of Hobowithashotgun from my Mom of all people and thought that it was entertaining if you view it in a Ronda Share" Up all night"USA late 80`s kinda way.
Ghost Dog was just a crappy movie. i didn`t know it was a Cult Classic.
Toxic Avenger and the rest of Tromaville is pretty funny if you`re a certain age.
A Clockwork Orange is a favorite of mine.

Taking just the movie in, and forgetting what people say, Boondocks Saints was a good movie. Never wasted time on the second. Donnie Darko was good for it's originality at the time. Kevin Smith's movie are a hit or miss for me. Hated jay and silent bob strike back, awful movie. But Clerks 1 & 2 (2 was better) had me laughing along with Chasing Amy and Zach & Miri Make a Porno. Didn't like mallrats at all.

As far as cult classics that i absolutely wouldn't spen time watching again: Rocky Horror. Didn't like it a bit.

A great one is Shawnshank Redemption, incredible.

i love dogma, other kevin smith movies are eh.

and i'm not saying i didn't understand donnie darko. i understand it completely, it's a very bad use of time travel though and tries wayyy to hard to be quirky-angsty in my opinion. i'm also really into GOOD sci-fi and GOOD indie type movies, so to see those genres blended in a poor way was disappointing. i was just disappointed by the movie with all the hype there's been about it.
and obviously i can't appreciate anything about it "being original for it's time" i'm 19 years old and watched it in like 08 or 09. and have seen much better films of that type before and since.

Im too lazy to look for the "best cult films forum.
So I reccomend evryone see my favorite movie.

The more words that fall outta your mouth, the more i like you.
Asclepius is the shit.

They Live is phenomenal. and Kevin Smith and George Romero and QT are probably my favorite directors. one could say that I am easily prone to fall for "cult" directors I guess. Kevin Smith brought comics to the mainstream, and his stoner-nerd comedy always hit home for me. George Romero, I loved him ever since he scared the shit outta me as a kid (but maybe you have to be from around the Pittsburgh area to truly love him). maybe not, as I believe he entertains with just the right amounts of gore and social commentary. QT, he is just oozes kewl for me, and that's because he is an amalgamation of everything I love about movies - in one movie (ninja-gore + pop-culture galore = good for me)

maybe this makes me a shell of a movie fan? I don't know. but I will defend these directors till the death

oh yeah, more pertaining to the thread, I did think Donnie Darko was awful

perhaps I need to see it again (it's been a long time), but it just didn't resonate on any points with me. plus, I've never been a fan of the Gyllenhaals

can only think of one, "clockwork orange" seemed like a massive load of shit when i watched it years ago. although ive only seen it once, and i was young, so might have to watch it again soon.

O my brother! You gotta watch that movie again.

yeah, that book has so much to say about everything. plus it is entertaining and hilarious when it shouldn't be. I would give it another try

some people dislike the slang that was made up for the book/movie, but I think it only further enriches the world. the slang is probably much more difficult for Americans to get over than non-Americans, one could suppose

They Live is phenomenal.

I like to think that movie is still just as relevant today.

"The whole worlds like some crazy game.
They put you at the starting line n the name of the game is Make It Through Life, only I'm looking to get ahead n do your ass in at the same time."

"When the steel companies went under we gave them a break.
You know what they gave themselves?? Raises.
We start losing more jobs we should take a sledgehammer to one of their fancy fuckin' foreign cars."

The golden rule: he who has the gold makes the rule.

I can see overrated much more than awful.
yeah it was deff over-rated
perhaps I need to see it again (it's been a long time), but it just didn't resonate on any points with me. plus, I've never been a fan of the Gyllenhaals

ahh samesies! they sort of irritate me..
like in the dark knight LOVED THAT MOVIE, but like maggie didn't resonate any emotional empathy with me. they're just like...idk. their acting doesn't get you as into it as other people's i feel like...

Anyone here see Hobo with a Shotgun? this film is Canadian (as am I), has everything I look for in a film but I thought it was shit despite it getting great reviews from everyone i know and RT. It will surely be a cult film in the future for those who love that surreal shit but I didn't know whether to laugh or turn it off.
Holy fuck, that's a shit film! :D

Mad Max with shopping carts.

Only the DeLorean made it watchable.

I know a lot of people have a problem with Idiocracy...

I am not one of those people.

^nowhere near as funny as office space, but still a good ol romp

Lars Von Triers Antichrist sucked. I voiced my opinion in the orig thread. Terrible movie.

Yeah, this really needs to be called out. The emperor has no fucking clothes; this movie is BAD. Do not be fooled. If you are an intellectual, you are a target and might get conned into parroting that this movie is good. Think twice about that opinion.

Worthy to mention are the visual effects, which someone painstakingly put into this film. Half the scenes are done with barely noticeable but probably expensive visual effects that have the effect of producing scenes that look like impressionist art. It is worth a re-watch only to appreciate the work that at least some people on the team were putting forward. But the movie is crap on many levels if you just think about it.

^including the scenes of figures moving through the woods? only thing scary in the movie. and the only thing i liked about the movie. the opening scene felt like an x-rated Maytag commercial.

i was really hoping too. great horror movies are a rare but particularly satisfying find.
