my bike's been laid up for months over the winter, and i left it behind at a mate's house when i moved home. (no room for it in the truck!)

but i'm going back home the weekend after next to collect her, can't wait! :D <3

I do not wear a helmet and my state does not require it for people over 18. I find the wind blowing in my face to be much of the fun of motorcycle riding. I enjoy the sights and smells, and a helmet limits that to some extent. I fully support making it the choice of the rider. Some people prefer a helmet because it does offer protection in many cases. On the flipside, I was once run off the road with no helmet, and the extent of injuries to my head were a cut over my eye and on my earlobe. A helmet may have restricted the motion of my head and caused damage to my neck as I tumbled over. So... to each his own.

On a side note, I know somebody who was competing in a mountain biking race wearing a helmet, and he suffered a bad spill, broke his neck, ribs and suffered such a severe concussion that he is now brain dead. So helmets are no GUARANTEE against injury. They can help in many situations, but motorcycle riding has some inherent dangers. For those who are very safety conscience, you might want to think twice if riding a motorized cycle with little bodily protection in traffic is the right choice for you.

That's my .02.

^ I use mine as my daily commute when I don't think it's going to rain. Sometimes it screws me over though; like today. 40% chance of rain, was fine when I left; I'm going to have a wet ride home :X

I've stopped riding to work because every single time I do I get stuck in some sort of storm.

I'm not a superstitious person but its happened enough to where I don't bother. I wouldn't mind as much if it were just rain, but the last time was a massive windy thunderstorm. Too sketchy for me.

It's just the spray off the front wheel and onto my lower legs/feet that bothers me. I'm thinking of getting rain gear. I haven't been caught in any major storms yet, *knocks on wood*.

A big reason I take my bike is because I have a ferry ride in between and bikes never get charged the fare.

Rain gear is very helpful and a must for anyone's saddlebags. I always keep my rain gear, along with some super warm gloves, first aid kit, and a couple tools that don't fit in my tool kit in one of my saddlebags.

I'm ready to get some riding in, I just wish the weekends and even weekdays would be a tad more cooperative.

A rain suit takes up very little space when rolled up. It should easily fit in your backpack and not take up much room. If you don't like that idea, get a couple bungee cords and you can secure the rain suite on your seat. A word of caution tho... a rain suit may keep you dry but it doesn't make it any easier to see and navigate through torrential downpours. I've ridden practically blind on a few occasions. It's not something I'd recommend, but it sure gets the adrenaline going!

^^

I just did this a few weeks ago and it was TERRIFYING! I left work early to "beat the storm" and I got stuck in the nastiest part of it. Lightening blasting off all around me, the wind pushing me all over the road, and the rain was just downpouring. Its not something I would ever want to repeat again, in fact, I would probably try to get a ride home or try to wait out the entire storm if i am ever in that position again. It was the scariest ride I have ever been on.

Hehe, I don't have saddlebags. Dual sport bike; no cargo room except what I put in my backpack. I've been thinking of making cargo room by putting ammo boxes on the sides at the back. I saw someone that did that with the same bike on a bike forum.

Saddlebags are a must for me. I don't think I would ever ride without them. Of course, I couldn't "travel light" if my life depended on it. The last time I took a couple day long bike trip my bag probably weighed a good 20 or 30 lbs. I had it strapped to the back of the sissy car with all kinds of bungee cords and a bungee net that I have.

new boots, coming on Monday!

£164, free delivery.

my old alpinestars touring boots (which I bought second hand 5 years ago) have done me proud, but they're not waterproof and the velcro has started to die. i can't wait to get these bad boys. :D

They look like moon shoes!!

Very cool looking though. I really need to think about some new boots, I would like to get something that is graded for colder temperatures, but finding women's sizes is always a challenge.

My current baby outside my house.

Here's my Daelim 100cc. Honda engine and has a lot of parts in common with a honda cub.

Best thing about this is three sets of footpegs an an enormous passenger bench.

I have carried four western folk on the back. Record I have seen on one of these was eight cambodians.

I had the engine rebuilt for $50 in january, new front wheel, decals - though some bastard stole a lovely celtic bull motif I had on it.

Had it's monthly service today, oil, fuel filter and spark plugs changed.

I had a head on collision with a small truck three weeks or a month ago on this and had to change everything from the top mount forward. Cost $30:D

My AX, in the previous post cost $116 for a new back shock, chain slide and brake bushes:(

I wear this can on the moped, when I wear one, as the motocross one would look ghey:

So, I took my bike to the shop last monday to have a rear wheel bearing fixed and got a small bit carried away:D

A week later and I have a new camchain, 2 x new valves, new front brake disk, re-covered the seat, total strip and rebuild with all metal frame and suspension parts polished and chromed, engine blasted and painted in heat resistant paint, full re-spray, new stickers, new back tyre and new wiring loom, new chain and sprockets, all nuts and bolts exchanged for stainless steel chromed ones8o%)

More piccies behind NSFW tags.

Picked up some amoured trousers plus this for my torso as I have seen about ten dead bodies on the roads recently.

That cub is so cool. I can't imagine carrying 4 people on a 100cc machine; thing must have been the little engine that could. :D

Yeah, It's a great little moped. Got way more pull and is lighter than many modern ones. It actually carries 4 people without dying too much. You often see them pulling up to ten people and goods on a homemade motorcycle pulled trailer over here.

I may buy an induction kit for it tomorrow (such items are actually available) and see if it's good for 120kmph - feels waay faster than a "real" motorcycle somehow.
