Bands that were good before they became popular (then sucked)

Because we're too busy listening to fucking converge! ;)

I consider myself a big-time metalhead and have a good knowledge of every subgenre in metal (underground as well as "commercial")...and I still like Slipknot. I like the way Slipknot have evolved, and have been into them since the beginning. I am not ashamed of this. :D

Metallica and Korn are the two that really stand out to me.

But they both bands were huge before their decline....so I'm not sure if they count.

Modestmouse, Three six mafia, linkin park, Green Day

All of which are in genres I don't longer care for

The Offspring's 'Smash' is an awesome album and I will duel with pistols on a beach at dawn with anyone who says otherwise. Anything after that, just...fuck....what went wrong....no...no...no

^^
Yeeeeeeeeeeees..... Smash was off-the-charts good... But 'Pretty Fly for a White Guy'? Oh my god.

And whilst they were popular from the get-go, Oasis. Two great albums then they went bad. Really bad. Mind you, I think they're getting their act back together somewhat.

someone told me Sugar-Ray actually was a great band before their mtv debeut. I can not confirm this personally.

Sepultura was one of the best bands of all time, before they gained popularity with the mainstream world and basically founded all of Nu Metal. (hey i still love everything from roots and before tho). Still a great band, highly inventive, but they would never be anything close to what they are without their extremely influential super-charged 80s releases.

yeah, sugar ray was kinda cool before "fly", all downhill after that. not sure if i'd call them "great". i saw them open for the deftones & monster magnet(dopes to infinity tour *ching*). this was before any1 had ever heard of the deftones btw.....well i'm sure a few ppl knew who they were.

'twas a really good show.

anyway...yeah sepultura was awesome. roots was the last album of theirs i liked.

p.s. chaos a.d. was/is the shizznizzle.

i liked their earlier work the best and stick to my comments.;)

when you say you liked soundgardens earlier work the best what "earlier work" are you refering to exactly?

I used to like Dave Matthews Band before "Everyday." I was a lot younger then, granted.

Good call on Sepultura. Anything post-Max fucking sucks. I hope that reunion comes through.

Ixnay on the hombre was still pretty damn good. After All I want, they went downhill fast.

Slipknots just gotten way too soft IMO, well they started out soft with MFKR then they had two heavier albums and then they went soft again. I don't like it, but i'll still go and see em when they come through I love their live shows.

Roots sucks too...with Max

Limp Bizkit. I still listen to Significant Other. Their new stuff is shit tho.

Also Rage to Audioslave. That was suck.
