Bands that were good before they became popular (then sucked)

It looks like Three Six Mafia might be headed down the toilet. I am not really feeling the new track they have out now. I gotta hear this new cd they are about to release, befopre i make my decision.

Were they even good before they became popular?

Popular != good.

Green Day
Finger Eleven
Disturbed

I am not a fan of their new album. Everything up to that was pretty good. I liked
The Greyest Of Blue Skies
Bones+Joints is one of my favourite songs.

But a band that was good and then sucked when they became popular for me....
Our Lady Peace

Naveed and Clumsy were such great albums...started losing me after that

In regards to the Offspring...I agree with all the above posters, except I liked Ixnay on the Hombre. Pretty Fly was the worst thing to come along in music in decades (although The Kids Aren't Allright is a decent tune)

What? Modest Mouse has and always will be fucking awesome!

Against Me!

- Although they were much better before, I still love them

All of these bands that you guys say went bad after they became famous is because you are upset that everyone other than you knows about that band...you are put in that mindset that they suck after they get famous. They had to have been good in order to get famous so how did they turn bad? please explain.....

I still have Clumsy in my binder.
I was not a fan of anything by Finger 11 after Tip, I was very let down by the greyest of blue skies.

^I am just shocked that an American living so far south even knew about Finger 11 before "One Thing" hit the airwaves down there

Are you going to say the Offspring were making great music when they recorded "Pretty Fly for a White Guy"?

For the bands I listed anyway, they changed the sound that made them good in my opinion, to reach a broader listener base. Which is all fine if the music doesn't suck. But in these cases, the music suffered.

But hey, musical taste is all subjective to the individual. Opinions differ.

Some bands get famous off of a well put together album, then they kinda run out of ideas and do the same thing over and over.

Some bands change what they do to appeal to a "target demographic".

Some bands just get old and less relevant.

Some bands never deserved to be famous in the first place.

The Hives.

I guess the 15 minutes are over anyway though!

If anyone thought they were good, even for a minute, they were completely duped.

i thnik that with alot of bands the fact they became popular is not the point, many bands only have one ot two good albums in them- its just more noticable when they run out of ideas if they become famous

people dont like the turn the bands have made stylistically, which may or may not have happened either way (whether they got famous or not)... and some bands (Good Charlotte for example) got poppy as fuck after becoming famous.

green day,
blink 182 (dude say what you want but all albums from flyswatter to dude ranch were pretty chill)
i agree with the sublime statement, they were the shit, no doubt (although i am not entirely convinced that, had brad nowell not died, their music would have ever sucked... it might have just continued to pnwn the shit out of everything)
allot of others i cannot remember. but will update when they come to mind

the getup kids
modest mouse, although the stuff now isnt bad, the older stuff is better.
deathcab, again, same as above.

(im not an emo kid or any of that crap, but these bands made some decent music, and as most of the shit i listen too is either like 30-40 years old or pretty much not popular anyway, there is no point in mentioning...)

Less Than Jake is another good example of a band that went to shit.
Pezcore and Hello Rockview are 2 of my favorite albums, but they went to a very emo (though still ska, sort of)) sound and now suck balls.
