in answer to your "how do you feel today" type thread question, I think the thing that defines those threads from say, threads of the ilk of the 2nd one you posted, is that they are revalatory in nature.

When people post in them, yes it is not "meaningful discussion" per se, but it does provide a bit of a window into the lives of the people who post in this forum. Particuarly if they are posters who don't feel comfortable spilling every details of their trials, triumphs and tribulations in other threads --- it gives them an outlet and a chance for some of us to get to know them a little better.

I know i have never moved a single Lounge thread to Aus Social, i'd lay money on Finder and RC (and the late GL) haven't either.
 
... because the vast majority of threads that have anything to do with Australians are Americans bitching about us. Why would we post in the Lounge when we have an Australian forum to post in? We're well aware the rest of the world doesn't care about Australian issues and that's totally fair enough. They have no reason to!
 
Non-BL specific, but ya know, when the internet started to boom, people got all wide eyed at the idea of a GLOBAL community, rather than self segregationalist bullshit. There is a great deal alot of little small minded US-is-the-only-country-that-matters types could learn from other cultures, but they'll never be exposed to it as long as other cultures form these "us only" clubs. Why are there very little Aus, Euro, Canadian, or other countries politics in CEP? Why can't americans and aussies or others, find common things to laugh at via the lounge.

I might be an antagonist of sorts, and i make my jokes bashing Aus Soc in the Lounge, but in all seriousness seeing comments like "90% of americans are fuckwits" habitually (and non jokingly i might add) and then seeing a group of people huddle up in their tree house away from everyone else reeks of a "Boys only club" or a "no darkies allowed" type of shit. We're free to post here, but like many have said.. it's so cliquish..and at times down right cold.. who the hell wants to? So yeah.. we joke and pick.

Hell.. looking at the front page of this forum.. there's very little that's actually AUS-centric

I am guessing that you, randycaver, GL, Finder and Blue Adonis all agreed about that together in The Lounge?

The reason there are so little Aussie related things in CE&P etc is because no-one ever pays any attention to them. Why should they? You can post it here and get other Aussies - who are usually directly or indirectly affected - giving their opinion on the issue.

- Dr Gallop's recent admission of his illness might have affected his work in the past.
- Tony Abbott had a recent family issue that could affect his perspective on a new medical treatment for women in Australia.

Why would anyone from the US in CE&P even care about these issues?

We're free to post here, but like many have said.. it's so cliquish..and at times down right cold.. who the hell wants to? So yeah.. we joke and pick.

...the only difference is that we don't come into The Lounge bitching and moaning to make it more like AusSocial.

You don't like it then don't come in here. Honestly - why do you even care?

why does the board (for the most part) not give the European forums the same rash of shit? If i remember correctly, Americans stood up when Catch made the decision to close does Euro Social.

Oh that's right. They don't merely huddle away in EDD and rarely venture out elsewhere. Some of the best CEP contributions are from people not in the US. Dr Seus, Zorn, Zero the hero, just to name a few.

I can name 20 Europeans off the top of my head that actively participate in SLR, Second Opinion, The lounge. While they still have their regional forum, they don't segregate themselves.

And in all reality, i rarely speak with GL, or Finder. So your perception of that being a clique is a bit off. I do speak with RC, i do with BA. The only people i've notced that we're "cold" to in the lounge are absolute, without a doubt, beyond any level of subjectivity-- trolls.

We have a load of Aussies who post in all of those places and more... what is your point? It isn't like the majority of people exclusively use this forum and this forum only. Even if some small amount of posters do - what does it matter?

No-one is segregating themselves here anymore than a Bluelighter who prefers "Music & DJ's" over "Non-Electronic Music and Discussion". It is a case of apples and oranges.

While a lot of AusSoc and The Lounge have seemed to come to terms with this, there are a small bunch of vocal people who seem to get pissed that not everyone likes citrus.

Aus-Social has a thriving community... if you are finding people being a bit cold to you it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact you are an American - moreso to do with the fact that in the eyes of a few people here, you are acting like a bit of a knob. (see: Petition to Admin: Close Aus Social)

The Lounge has loads of people. AusSocial has loads of people. Both forums are thriving. Why are you trying to fix something that isn't broken?

A troll in AusSocial is different to a troll in The Lounge. That might explain why some of the regulars from The Lounge feel that icy reception when they try to post a new thread here.

Why he even gives so much of a fuck about Aus. Social is beyond me. Maybe he can't stand the thought of people enjoying themselves without his almighty interjection of thousands of few word posts of little relevance or meaning.
 
Okay, here's the thing.

Aus Social exists and lots of people post interesting things in it.

At the moment this is how you sound:

"It's not FAAAAAAIIRRRRRRR I want them to come and post in MY FORUM NOW NOW ME MEMEMEME!"

I don't post in The Lounge because I find it actually makes me stupider. But I don't sit around here and hope and wish everyone from The Lounge would come and post in my forum, since I can't possibly deal with some members having a preference for something other than mine.

Aus Social boasts some excellent debate, interesting topics and great people. The only reason it should be shut down is that the pithy egos of other forum mods can't possibly deal with the rejection.

This thread should be about ways to improve the forum and ways to capitalise on aforementioned great people. So let's try to keep doing that, comprende?
 
xtcxtc (an aussie) is the benefactor and he should be making the rules. If I was in his position, The Lounge would be split into regional area as well as it serves no great purpose. But oh well, I guess Lounge (and former) moderators are allowed to spread their message of hate as they please.

You have to 'make a name for yourself' before anyone will take notice of you.

You have tight cliques.

As we have seen, you are very nasty and rude to newcomers.

No, you're not like the lounge at all.
