Aus social virtual suggestion box (bitch about Aus social here!!!!)

I do actually agree that we're too quick to close some threads. Like the controversial threads... They're popular because they're entertaining/ debateable... whatever.

I think we're all adults and if we feel like debating we don't need a parental figure [mod ;)] to come save us. If it's really making anyone cry... then they, of couse, can make the adult decision to leave.

In saying all this, lounge standard threads should remain where they belong - in the lounge! Simply because they suck.

if they are a repeat thread or so obviously numbskullery then so be it but there are definitely sometimes when threads are closed and I think damn I wish I could have responded to that...surprising really given that they were not about what someone was drinking but it has happened!
:)
then again I am slack and don't respond to lots of cool threads which are here and available so maybe I should just go and suck my bottle!
:\

I think the main reason everyone is full of resentment is because we chose AusSoc as a slightly different alternative to The Lounge. Similiar but different. We don't want to come into another forum that has thread after thread of "Reasons to vote Gentleman Loser for president!" or "Draw what you think randycaver looks like!"

There is already a place for that... a thriving place. Lounge - while not my cup of tea - has a great purpose on here and a large bunch of regular writers.

AusSocial isn't against those who enjoy The Lounge coming in here and participating... we are just against people trying to disrupt our fragile balance of a forum and turn it into something similar to The Lounge.

By all means, you are welcome. But take the time to read through a bunch of the threads and the guidelines to get a feel for the forum before starting something which may not be appropriate here.

We want to hear your opinions.

We want to have your input.

We just want you guys to respect that the forum is - or at least strives to be - one which provides some in depth discussion as well as light hearted humour. I also think that a lot of the jokes and humour in AusSoc is a different kind to The Lounge with a more English slant to the comedy rather than American.

In many ways I believe AusSoc to be the hardest forum to moderate. Where forums like "Healthy Living" or "Sex Love & R" have pretty distinct lines drawn in the sand as to what is clearly appropriate or not, here in AusSoc things are a lot more fuzzy.

Just on page 1 alone we have threads that could really belong in "The Lounge", "CE&P", "Second Opinion" and "Film & TV"... but for the most part aren't because they deal with predominately Australian issues.

I could care less for cliques. The one great thing about AusSocial is that if you are someone with something worthy to say you will get noticed. No-one here tends to really give a damn whether you are a mod or not here. No-one cares too much about postcount's either. We just care about what you have to say...

Look at "m4ddog" for a great example... anyone can ascend to the lofty heights of the AusSoc clique providing they write something other people want to read and treat other posters with a level of respect.

We want you guys here - just as long as you have something to say and can understand that while it looks an awful lot like The Lounge at first glance it is actually entirely different.

Cheers :)

Actually, this is already an improvement IMO. Discussion about ANYTHING! New ideas, new topics, just MORE exchange of ideas.

Brilliant. Nice thread MoeBro. or MP or whoever started it!

I dont think anyone wants Aussie to be another lounge. We dont need one. However, I talk to a lot of Aussie regulars, a lot of overseas people who browse here and everyone says the same thing. Aus Social lately has been boring and practically no movement on the front page reflects that.

Quite frankly, if you have a hell of a lot of mods from other forums AND admin giving not so subtle hints that Aussie is becoming a little too segregated then maybe you should just take a step back and have a think about it. Thats all.

This is just my opinion, like it or lump it.

Peace.:D

^ No offence intended... but the truth is - you can be awfully ignorant.

I post in SLR. I'd say I'm [fairly] respected within that forum.

How, you ask? Not by dominating the forum... but by participating. If anyone wants to be a part of Aus Social... they simply have to do the same.

This shouldn't be too hard to understand. It's common sense.

Maybe when you have a name... Maybe that's when you can make changes. But why on earth would anyone think they were deserving [above all other contributers] up until that point? 8(

BTW- how is starting a couple of threads "dominating" a forum? And how does one get a name for themselves? Im not shagging a mod for the priviledge if thats whats required ;)

Oh, Im joking, of course. :)

I totally understand and agree with that. However from what I've seen, those same people come into Social and post threads that are either,
a) about themselves and their own little cliques that few of us here care about
or
b) how annoying and elitist people from Aus Social are

Please tell me exactly why we should care.

There are other origin specific forums too which seem to be slipping under the radar and I think that's mainly because they just don't get enough traffic to be self-sufficient. There are so many Australians on BL and so we can therefore just chat amongst ourselves, about issues that interest us, away from the cliques in the Lounge which are far more dominating than anything you'd find in Aus Social.

I think this forum is doing very well under the watch of the current moderators. I used to do exactly what zephyr, Beatlebot, KB and co. are doing when PsychoKitten was a mod because she really did rule with an iron fist [IMO] so I can see why you guys feel the need to whinge every few weeks. That being said, I don't think the forum is anywhere near as restrictive as it used to be and it is open to free and healthy discussion.

I hope that everyone does write something in this thread, both good and bad, because I really do think that the majority of people don't have a problem with how everything is run but all the mods seem to hear is *bitch bitch whinge whinge someone wipe my ass for me please* type comments.

^ I will never tell anyone what they should or should not care about, up all night. But you obviously do to be posting a few times in this thread. You dont have to care, if you really really dont give a shit then dont post you opinion here. Kind of like how I couldnt give a fuck about neighbours so I dont bother even opening that thread. :)

This thread and the issues surrounding it have sparked a bit of interest in this forum, a lot more people are reading it and may jump in and put their 2 cents in. Which is the point!

From a couple of posts in this thread (BB and Dopelganger) one issue that should be addressed by the mods is the closing of threads when they are obviously attracting interest and participation. I cant answer than one, only they can.

"Did this" is a little obscure - more information please?

MP had a few teething problems and moved the thread into WOB instead of copying it. So I moved it back.

Never fear, your freedom has been reinstated. Now stop fucking bitching.

zephyr I think you slightly misinterpreted what I said which is probably my fault for not explaining myself properly.

Now that this thread has been split off from the other one I have no problem with it, which is what the whole last paragraph of my post was saying. I think it's great that it was actually a mod who started this thread to let people have their say. In the past, criticism of how the forum was run was met with, 'BLUELIGHT ISN'T A DEMOCRACY. CASE CLOSED' which was frustrating for everyone.

When I said I didn't care I was referring to the inane threads posted that people were crying about when they got closed - not this topic in particular.

You're right though, I shouldn't bother posting in here any more because I've made my point. I was just wanting more people to write either good or bad things so there was an accurate representation of the feelings of the majority instead of just a thread full of people whining.
