At Dinner With an Undercover Narcotics Detective

There's another side to all this talk of undercovers that I want to highlight and it's the nature of our own more paranoid sides to point people out as cops simply because they're different.

Recently I've seen this for myself when a guy, who is just outside a group that I'm connected with was fingered as an undercover. The reason? He doesn't take drugs.

He comes along to the same clubs, but never takes anything, even at seven in the morning when everyone else is wasted; he says he likes the music and people. I must admit, this would raise a bit of suspicion. Then rumors started circulating that he was an undercover, his aim was to get close to girls, become trusted and work his way up the heirarchy which didn't seem like such a stretch when you saw what he looked like.

When asked why he didn't take drugs, he revealed that he worked as a drug and alcohol counsellor with the police... and I think this is where the confusion started. It got to the point where the other weekend, a bartender at the club we all frequent openly asked him if he was a cop. He was deeply hurt by the accusation.

I feel sorry for him because I'm pretty sure he isn't and the gossip and rumors have gone out of control to the point where everyone believes it.

Thats exactly how I felt last weekend Hoptis.... only that I was on stuff, so my paranoia / feeling were pretty stuffed up. Especially when it was 2pm recovery time after a huge session. I was still able to feel sorry for people who thought I was a cop though... as I know how the paranoia feeling can manefest out of control. Thanks, feel better now.:D

I was at a club once, and a dude thought i was a cop. He kept and asking me and i kept and saying no and laughing. I went to uni with his mate, so i thought he was joking. He then kept and doing asking so i flashed my passport to him and said i was, making him think it was my badge. he fully shat himself. lol

Another time i was at a club smoking a spilf and a dude comes up and asks for pills. He said he's a cop from sydney, then shows me his badge, i have a look and it's a NSW cop badge. He must have either stole it or he was actually a cop down here in melb for a holiday and wanting to peak.
I couldn't help him out with pills as i'm only into consuming, but gave him a few tokes of my spilfer and i reaken a 12 year old could have smoked it better than him, i don't even think he inhaled.

yeah, after an hour or so I started laughing too and said "Yeah, I am a cop, and so is my mate"... this bloke got even worse then. Probably didnt help when I started to dance holding a glow stick on my head making police car noises. Couldnt help it, was peaking at the the time.

boomslang - (or anyone else??) -

is it possible that there are two independant teams working clubs at the same time? WITHOUT knowledge of each other?

ive seen d's, been pointed them out by promotors who were told, and u cant spot them really... sure at a rave where most of the people are 15 or so they stand out more, but at a club, much harder to point out. ive had strangers ask me for drugs, but ive always just said to them to keep their eye out. cause i dont know anyone who sells drugs ne ways.

DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT THE POLICE MONITOR THIS SITE?

I was at **** on saturday and so were "my friends". I only saw about half the amount that are normally at ***** but i stayed in one (of two) room all night so the rest could have been next door. I very much doubt this however.. the crowd was very young and the large majority were aussie. It is no surprise then that i did see none of the asian operatives or any of the older operatives. I noticed that three of them have an identical tattoo of a dragon on their right arm. I was highly tempted to take some pics of these people as my friend had her camera phone with her, but it was too dark to get anything decent. I was just wandering if anyone would know the legalities surrounding that... presuming that i had taken pics and distributed them?
Papermate, i am quite certain that there is only one "squad" in sydney. I wouldn't be surprised if they all came together to work ***** and major raves, but split up on other nights. Obviously these are not the only police in our nightclubs. For example, Kings Cross police might decide to send 3-4 plain clothes police into the Cross to bust as many dealers as they can, no matter how much they are selling. Obviously they wouldn't remain anonymous in one place for very long and would have to move from club to club. I think the only way you would find two teams in one club is if you were to get a couple of plain clothes from a local police station stumble accross the same club that the above mentioned operatives were working in. I wouldn't think that local patrol officers would have details of the above metioned squad, but no doubt, intelligence gathered by them would go up the chain and find it's way to these people, whom i believe are part of the "major drug investigation unit".

Sorry about that phase_dancer, but seeing as my previous post (which mentions both of those venues, although cryptically) was not edited i presumed it was ok to mention venues, provided it was not on the subject of drug use or availiblity at the venue. My bad.. won't happen again.

Not a serious infringement but as the thread highlights police operatives in association with known/admitted drug use, it's on the line IMO....

not wishing to discourage you from posting though Boomslang...

excellent post.

makes you wonder am I really your friend or just another filthy pig

friendly filthy pig.

i can help but wonder about the posting though. the information is great, and to be perfectly honest i cant see much doubt in it being factual.

i do wonder however what the authorities, particualary the feds that monitor the site are thinking about this. i wonder what they are thinking about boomslang and also if this awarness of the undercover work will affect peoples caution to both consume and deal drugs.
realistically i dont think it will. bluelight community is small in comparison to the ''drug community '' as a whole. but i also wonder if there is a legitmate method to expose this situation to the public media, and if it would do any good to anyone.

i think largely, authorities involved in the in-depth work of undercover(ness), would be amused at alot of the assumptions we make about operatives.
I guess in the end, the safest bet, if you are into the scene, is purely to be an end user, and not rely on in-venue randoms to supply you.

I think we as posters on bluelight give away alot more hints than they have.

It must be a very difficult life for a narcotics cop, who has to be undercover for years to completely bring down a syndicate, I cant imagine the type of person who would be able to do such a thing. But it must be hypocritical as to gain acceptance, the cop would have to be using drugs to gain a social repor with suspects. I suppose you have to admire their discipline to be able to hide things from these dealers, but it also makes u think of the other side. If they can hide things from dealers, maybe they are also being corrupt and playing the other side as well.

I work hard for the money, a little from column A a little from column B.

I too would like to know what the police are thinking about me... in fact I would be delighted if they were to contact me.
Apart from purchasing and consuming the odd pill, I have nothing to hide. I am not a dealer, nor do I associate myself with dealers or anyone deeply associated in that business.
The reason I posted the information I have, is because of an incident at the nightclub mentioned previously.
As a direct result of their overzealousness I lost my girlfriend, and indirectly, lost my phone and wallet. All I ever wanted was recognition of what happened, and perhaps an apology. Though it seems that wanting to hear a "Yeah, sorry about that..", is just asking for too much.
What is their reasoning for not acknowledging the incident? Obviously because it would involve having to admit that, yes there are undercover operatives operating in this nightclub. Ok, so my question is this... If I expose every single one of these operatives for what they really are, then what excuse do you have?? And yes, if that's what it will take I am more than willing to do so (pending legal advice of course) :)
Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against the police. I am always the one who says "Hey, who are you going to call when your place gets broken into or your car is stolen" whenever someone takes a swipe at a cop. We should all respect them and the job they do. Even if we do not agree with the laws that they have to enforce. The simple is fact is, they are just doing their job, and without them we would be fucked. I think we should be just be thankful that they aren't out there arresting everyone for being under the influence. They could if they wanted to...
But they, nor anyone else, should be allowed to do whatever they please, however they please, to whoever they please, and not have to be held accountable. This could have gone away from day 1... I could have kept their little secret between us, but as I've already said "Yeah, sorry about that" is just asking way too much.
Papermate, I hope my postings have made somewhat of a difference to the way people conduct their activities. Hopefully it will encourage people to make a more informed decision about where and from whom they purchase their pills. I despise people who deal in clubs, and think poorly of people who purchase pills from unknowns in clubs or on the streets. You really have no respect for yourself if you are not purchasing your pills from a trusted person AND testing them yourself.
Bye for now.

Boomslang.:)

My cousin actually went through high school with his mate who later became a cop. His mate actually supplys my cousin with the occasional few pills along with speed and coke that he has taken off people in clubs and carparks when he has searched their cars. Not all cops r the good guys this just goes to show how can police uphold the so called "law" if police are doing things like this. To me I see most police who decide to search my car when i have just been pulled over as the ones who are like this. searching for the occasional pill or point of speed. Just goes to show no matter how much the law is enforced there will still be dealing n i doubt it will ever stop.

A stranger's just a friend you haven't met.

And you can't really blame the cops, they just follow the law. So blame the law. Yes, drug laws are stupid. There should only be 1 drug law. No selling dodgy drugs. (damn i wrote 'drug' & 'law' a lot)

oh yea, and no mixing uppers with downers.
