Amsterdam: Magic Mushrooms Banned!

Alcohol is firmly entrenched in the fabric of society though, and has been for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Mushrooms, even in places where they were legal, were only sorta tolerated.

Mushrooms have been an used much longer in history, the problem is that those such societies got stepped on.

Am I the only one who doesn't really care? I'v had to buy drugs illegally since i started doing drugs. I'm sure i would feel different if i grew up in amsterdam however.

Its to bad. Amsterdam is about the only place that some of the more desirable species were cultivated in bulk.

Honestly, there should be some checks in balances in place to make sure someone with psychiatric problems doesn't take shrooms and lose it.

All it takes is one 17 yr old blonde white girl to change the world...

Does anyone know if the companies which legally sell spores in the UK mainly got their spores from NL? We'll have to wait and see whether this new Dutch law also covers spores, but of course, it's impossible to produce spores without live mushrooms

Sorry, I was never aware of this. Why is MDMA so big in Amsterdam if If it's not even legal? Is there any place where Ecstasy is legal?:(
Sorry if the question stupid.

I'm no expert on the matter but I've always been under the impression that the matierals for making MDMA were more readily available there, and the punishment for possssion and/or manufacture was less severe than say, the US.

It seems to me like it was only the tourists that were having problems (with shrooms). I'm guessing many of them would have the perception that because something is legal, they'll be fine to use it as recklessly as possible. The locals are probably more informed about what mushrooms will do to you and how to use them in a responsible manner.

Given this, a better solution would probably be to ban it for tourists, than to remove it from everyone.

I used to love Zurich in Switzerland. Across from the train station there was a park where the govt. allowed people to set up tables and openly sell both heroin and cocaine. People could use there as well and it was all good until drug tourists created problems. I only got to go once and I will always remember true and open use, probably the only time I will have seen it in my lifetime. I loved the samples as well. Ha, like eating dinner by going through supermarket displays!

Mayor Cohen had it right though, but besides the 3 day wait, they should have required local i.d. as well. If you want it bad enough, immigrate. If you come just to piss over the landscape you deserve to be barred.

Driving these things underground does not solve anything. Controlling them on the other hand solves a lot of problems.

Take away the fantasy and educate people... education is the key, not depriving people of knowledge.

I just hope they do not fall down the slippery slope that USA and AUS have gone down. It does not help people, it just makes them criminals for practicing their rights.

Educated people make educated decisions...

^I don't think its possible to take the fantasy out of mushrooms;)

as far as education, that is key

How would education help? Most people easily understand the "psychoactive" part and that is what is driving this nonsense. If you mean about the substance's actual effects, you will not convince them that visuals and "trails" are any safer that anything else. If they would only realise that alcohol can make a person think they can fly ,etc. than we would not need to discuss this.

The real problem is Drug Toruism. Before foreigners started making a mess of it, most locals let it slide. When foreigners, especially those of EU nations make it a point, then trouble lies ahead. Economics is too big a consideration for anyone including bleeding Liberals to shirk off the consequences.

If they just kept it legal for Dutch citizens instead for everyone, no problems woul have occured. 90% of the people who needed medical care after injesting mushrooms were foreigners, most of them on a drug holiday here, they all fucked it up for us. The French girl who jumped from the viaduct, the Danish guy who raced around through a camping, and so on, they were all foreigners, not a single Dutchmen was involved. This is really fucked up.

There is no big surprise when it comes to the potency of alcohol. It wouldn’t take long for a 1st timer could get a handle on what a shot or beer will do to him/her. Smoke is a little tougher, but if you make a mistake and really underestimate its potency it doesn’t take long before you stop smoking it. Granted, people get out of control with alcohol and smoke, but the variables (potency, purity, onset time, etc) involved with other substances are usually far greater.

For example; I can’t count the times an hour passed and I redosed assuming the L was weak, only to start tripping balls while still chewing on the additional hits. Not exactly a deal breaker for the experienced person but a 1st timer could really get into some trouble.
Now if I could stroll in and buy regulated 100ug hits the scenario I detailed would probably never happen. Hmmm…..an acid bar could be quite interesting. :)

if mayhem and death arereasons to ban a drug, then alcohol should be made illegal asap.

and for mushrooms growkits will be the way to go. must learn how to do that...

Educated People would select the right time to take their trip.
Most educated people would select not to trip at all.

But it is these people who see drugs on movies and think 'I would love to try drugs' that are the people who are most likely to have problems. Their governments have hidden the information from them for their entire life, and the only experience they have of 'drugs' is what they see and hear in the media.

Abstinence is not the answer. How can 'we' as thinking creatures make educated decisions if we are kept in the dark?

People will educate themselves, and that can only lead to disaster!
