Amsterdam: Magic Mushrooms Banned!

This truly is a sad day. Lets continue with all the alcohol deaths though, no need to worry about those.

God, that sucks, but you can still buy X and Coke right.

No, MDMA & Coke were never sold over-the-counter and beware of anyone selling on the street in the RLD.

From the window of my hotel room I watched two black (African) guys dealing to another. The buyer wanted to try it on the spot. When he didn't feel anything I thought they were gonna fight but they all walked away as if nothing happened.

Fuck this shit! Most people here know that this kind of legislation come from people who are narrowminded and don't what they are actually banning. I think I understand why some people are afraid of an altered state of consciousness but why impose that fear on everybody around you? I say grow the mushies and introduce as much people as you can to this sacred experience.

So one death and three incidents are enough 'evidence/proof/reason' that these WONDERFUL beautys must be banned? i guess until some faggot politicians daughter is raped/killed from an alchohol related incident is when they realize "hey alchohol is the result of problems as well!!!!" OH WAIT ITS THE RESULT OF A LOT MORE PROBLEMS THAN ANY OTHER DRUG COMBINED. fucking stupid shitheads trying to keep people addicted to alchohol/nicotine cuz it doesn't cause "problems" like the ones stated in the thread but i guess drunk driving/rape/alchohol poising AND................CANCER are fucking ok enough to the point where they are legal. :p fuck society i can't wait to see it crumble.

devils advocate:

have none of you ever flipped out and done something insane and unpredictable while shrooming? now imagine someone much stupider than you shrooming. now imagine theyre in public, or driving, or doing othetr drugs too. its a scary thought.

okay im done with the devils advocate thing, but im expecting a lot of people to be hollering about some slippery slope idea that "its shrooms now, but weed is next". it aint gonna happen.

honestly, i dont think they should be outright banned but maybe they should set an age limit on them like with alcohol.

oh, and the reason alcohol isnt illegal is because when used in moderation its totally predictable and safe.

They're already trying to scale back the number of coffee shops.

The same could be said about all of the illicit recreational drugs.

Yeah, it blows. Guess I'll never have my opportunity for boomers in the dam. :\

But, were that many people really surprised? Sure, alcohol is certainly responsible for many more accidents. Granted, I don't think mushrooms are terribly safe; I've had a friend stick his head through a window while shrooming, but I'm sure many more people have done that while hammered.

Alcohol is firmly entrenched in the fabric of society though, and has been for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Mushrooms, even in places where they were legal, were only sorta tolerated. It was just a matter of time before enough public incidents showed up in newspapers to create a public outcry, and what politician is going to risk his career "going soft on dangerous drugs?"

The same thing is already happening to Salvia; it's only a matter of time before it's DEA scheduled.

half a million shroom packages sold a year, and between 2004 and 2006 , 148 hospitalizations were reported, so that is 1 million doses or more and about 75 hopitalizations a year. i wonder how many people go to the E.R. because of alcohol out of every one million who use it to achieve an altered state of mind similar to cannabis or mushrooms :o :!

Those jackasses. She had a medical history rife with psychiatric problems...What the hell was she taking mushrooms for?!? That's like banning alcohol because some dumbass with a liver condition drank a bottle of Jack.

I have psychiatric problems and ive never gotten into the least bit of trouble while on magic mushrooms. Even really high doses of them. But i lost count of how many times ive gotten into trouble while drunk. Ive ended up in hospital, almost busted up my ribs from falling down, cut myself up in accidents and intentionally as well, had numerous falls down or over things, gotten into loads of fights, ended up in jail, etc.

But i don't go around saying that they should take alcohol off the market due to whats happened to me over the years. It was my own stupid fault for drinking the stuff despite knowing that it didnt agree with me. Even if i had only drank alcohol once and didnt know what to expect from it and something bad happened to me it shouldnt be banned. Millions of people drink the stuff every year with no problems. So why should mushrooms which no doubt cause less problems per dose (they definitely do from what ive seen) be treated any different?

I could see this coming no doubt about it. We could always depend on the dutch to be the voice of reason in a drug prohibitionist world but it doesn't seem that way anymore. Oh well i guess mushrooms will go the way of weed they won't be legal but they will be tolerated.

No. Never. Not on any drug. Ditto for my friends.

...although I have seen a lot of people do stupid things while drunk.

erm... I am pretty sure there is/was an 18+ limit on shrooms in The Dam.

No drug is totally predictable and 'safe' is such a subjective word, it shouldn't really be used when talking about drugs either.

Umm no id have to disagree with this. It's not totally predictable and safe no drug is. If a person with severe liver damage has a few drinks they could end up getting very sick or worse. If a person with a ulcer has a few drinks they could end up with a bleeding stomach.

This is not even getting into the fact that a true alcoholic who has a few drinks won't stop at a few drinks and will end up getting hammered more then likely. If i have as little as 3 or 4 drinks it's enough to either make me depressed, put me into a dysphoric mania or if im lucky make me feel happy. Also since i was a alcoholic i rarely stop at those few drinks.

So just like people with mental illness or certain physical illnesses should stay away from alcohol people with certain mental illnesses should stay away from magic mushrooms. Although from my own personal experience with bipolar disorder ive never had a problem with magic mushrooms at all while alcohol is one of the worst drugs for making me lose it.

Ive also never seen anyone else really lose it on magic mushrooms either and magic mushrooms are one of the most used drugs around here. Just about everyone has tripped on them at some point in their life. The worst ive seen is people having bad trips which although may be terrifying to the user is usually not dangerous.

It was destined to go wrong at some point. There are no instructions on the box, only in Dutch. Most smartshop keepers only give information when asked. Combine that with the fact that most tourists in Amsterdam think that it would be a great idea to take while walking around in Amsterdam or in their hotel(would be a no-no for me) while under the influence of alcohol or really strong weed. And you have a recipe for disaster.

Ah well I'm gonna stock up on some of the last Dutch mushrooms(that are sold legal) ever next week, I guess :(

Those "stories" of people jumping out of windows, and running around being weird/causing trouble seem a little suspect. Maybe its sort of drug culture vs. random people going to Amsterdam and trying as many different drugs as they can.

Shrooms, for myself, are pretty much a group drug or a shared experience. If one of us was that messed up that we want to jump out of a window, I think we'd probably stop them, go outside, chill out or something. I've had ideas like that before, like I could fly or something on shrooms...and then realized I was pretty high/tripping etc.

It sounds a lot like these people were alone? Or first time flyers? It just doesn't make sense.

Shrooms seems to be, in my opinion, one of the more harmless drugs, if used with a bit of knowledge and responsibility.
