First Mushroom Recon
We had our first shroom recon mission this weekend. I call this recon rather than a hunt as we have no expert hunters to show us the way. It was more for educational purposes than wanting to extract a yield of mushies for consumption.
So this was just like an educational nature walk
After seaching certain area's and only find toadstools and other fungi we finally stumbled on an area of pine needles which had fungi everywhere which had been totally raped. This was obviously a popular mushroom spot and people had kicked over all non psilocybin mushrooms and probably taken the rest. 8)
After scouring the area we found some small 'what we thought we probably' p. subs. We toke photos and a few samples for research purposes. After hunting around more we found a massive bunch of p. sub looking mushrooms - in our eyes success!
We toke a few more samples as most were pretty small, with the idea of identifying them and coming back during the week to harvest.
Once we got back home to more carefully examine and document our find all but one had brusied a straw colour - however one had bruised blue! We then did spore prints on all shrooms so we could start learning what colours different mushrooms leave. Our suspected p. sub left a choclate brown/ purple spore print. So we are 95% sure this is indeed a p. sub.
We could also indentify small differences between the p. sub and the imposters. I was going to post pictures but we have no intention of consuming our suspected p. sub. Now that we are a little more knowledgable I will put some pics up of our next harvest - which will hopefully now have a higer strike rate.
I have to say if the shroom exprience is 1/2 the fun the hunt and learning is then I can't wait!!!
