2004 Mushroom season( Victoria)

Keep on coming rain and cold i like the cut of your gib!

I got a question u know how pigs can smell truffles and people use them to find truffle. Can one train a pig (or any other animal) to sniff out p.subs? Cause that would really help in finding those little shrooms

Or is the only way of achieving such a feat to hypnotise hardicus/p_p/mongman/Dj ScATerfAcE into thinking their a pig and getting them to do the sniffing

/\ me and hardicus take turns on who gets to be hypnotised ;)

oh yeh and the best way to find isn't with your sense of smell... it's with your sixth sense ;)

enjoy the rain..... they will be rocking this weekend.

Yeh this season has definately started off well... makes me wonder what it would be like if the drought ended. hehe

Do shrooms that are fairly dry, but still in the ground, bruise blue just as easily as the fresher ones?

yesterday I picked quite a few and they were all quite dry, 1 patch had dried but already bruised quite a bit, another patch however were dryed out a fair bit and hardly any of them ha bruised at all, I thought since they were pretty dry they would bruise much in my pocket while i took them home, however, upon returning home they had almost all bruised to a very deep blue/black.

However, i small patch were extremely dry and hardly bruised any more at all.

So basically i think, yeah, sun-dryed ones certainly have the potential to bruise a lot, however, if they are nearly cracker-dry from the sun, they won't bruise that much.

OK I think there could be some money in Tabernacle's question. Im gona start walking the streets with a carboard sign "will act like pig and sniff mushrooms for money" See if I get any takers

Thank for the feedback peoples.
I kinda figured that was the case, I think I was clutching at straws because of the 7 patches I have found around town none have been subs :(

First Mushroom Recon

We had our first shroom recon mission this weekend. I call this recon rather than a hunt as we have no expert hunters to show us the way. It was more for educational purposes than wanting to extract a yield of mushies for consumption.

So this was just like an educational nature walk :)

After seaching certain area's and only find toadstools and other fungi we finally stumbled on an area of pine needles which had fungi everywhere which had been totally raped. This was obviously a popular mushroom spot and people had kicked over all non psilocybin mushrooms and probably taken the rest. 8)

After scouring the area we found some small 'what we thought we probably' p. subs. We toke photos and a few samples for research purposes. After hunting around more we found a massive bunch of p. sub looking mushrooms - in our eyes success!

We toke a few more samples as most were pretty small, with the idea of identifying them and coming back during the week to harvest.

Once we got back home to more carefully examine and document our find all but one had brusied a straw colour - however one had bruised blue! We then did spore prints on all shrooms so we could start learning what colours different mushrooms leave. Our suspected p. sub left a choclate brown/ purple spore print. So we are 95% sure this is indeed a p. sub.

We could also indentify small differences between the p. sub and the imposters. I was going to post pictures but we have no intention of consuming our suspected p. sub. Now that we are a little more knowledgable I will put some pics up of our next harvest - which will hopefully now have a higer strike rate.

I have to say if the shroom exprience is 1/2 the fun the hunt and learning is then I can't wait!!!

I'm very impressed by your approach to shrooming. Learn first, trip later. :)

Rather than sick first, learn later that seems to be so common amongst the new era of shroomers who stumble across a picture of mushrooms on the internet and think they know everything there is to know.

This is also my first season hunting and i took a simlar approach to hunting. I am now finding heaps of subs with the help of hankey. I have been taking note of the habitats they grow in, and ive found these consistancies :

The biggest and most successful patches so far have been in places that are THICK with woodchips. not just a small scattering. I mean when you stand on the woodchips you almost sink into them. These places are usually on the sides of creeks and roads.. I havnt come across many subs that grow in shallow woodchips, and the ones that do are quite small and in small groups. The areas have been wet constantly. shaded by the sun.

Well I have to say that the season is in full swing, found large patches all over the joint today. I have some pictures of some realy juicy little buggers to I thought I would post a few.

Heres a link to an article that argues that Moses was on mushrooms, one of the best religious disccusions i ever seen, and a possible explanation of why so many bizzare things happened during the biblicle days, a little off topic but worth the read.

I found a nice patch on the way home tonight,it was in full view of the road and a bike path that went past it. So there are heaps out there and not that many people looking.
between endlesseulogy and i we must have found over a dozen patches already this year.

i have myself one nice little patch :) ive havent been there in a while. Should go back soon :D
They're some nice looking shrooms you found yourself there mongman :)

I tried wet shrooms and got great visuals with happiness of about 6 hours followed by troubled sleep of crazy closed eyed visuals. I then found some more, dried them and tried them 3 nights later. About the same dose but plus half original dose. btw this is the first and second time ive ever tried them. The visuals were just a bit colourful, happiness for 2-3 hours, no water walls, they were just bending and stretching. Is this coz i dried them out incorrectly (fan dry 10 hours, over shitty duct vent for about 10) or because i've built up a tolerence on just the first dose?

Anyways, im probably going to take them fresh this friday with lots of friends at a party at mine. I think i can handle this situation as i became EXTREMELY social and have a great time whoever im with.

Happy Hunting :) Marty

Here is a nice pic of some we found a few weeks ago, Hehehe i ate them right up off the ground.

I went out last saturday it was raining and the mushies were all very damp ( they are taking a while to dry inbetween layers of paper towl ) ..... we still found a fair few but it was thin pickings to start with. and then the wickedest thing happened, us wandering the forrest, heads down looking for mushies in bad weather it was sorta drizzle, then it started to snow...

man it was so damn cool flakes of snow floating about... i sorta wish i had the opurtunity to take a few but i had to drive.

mothershabooboo: Interesting environment your finding them in! I recon some of the more atractive mushrooms are in that sort of surrounding.
