Hard to tell in the pic, but i don't like the look of that orange/brown staining on the stalks :(

... Looking at link now...

As i said, tough to tell 100% in the pics but I would thow them out. Look WAY too much like Strophia to me.
I wouldn't eat them... Don't risk it.

shit.. thanks man.. if they are poisonous is there any risk of contamination just by having them around? like i wash my hands after i touched them but is that enough?

endlesseulogy: you are right, they are NOT P. Subs. As for contaminating yourself dont eat before washing your hands. Thats about it.

As a side note Im told that eating 1 of the species in your photos will give you the runs for a week. ;)

thanks guys.. i guess now i can avoid them.. i was scared they were galerina for a minute but then again ive seen galerina before and they are a darker more shit brownish colour.. these things i found were really bright orange.. plus i think galerina has a ring at the top of the stem.. better luck next time i guess :S WARNING to beginners : DEADLY Galerina.. sorta similar looking to p.subs.. check out these pics :

Yeh they were definiatly stropheria in those pictures.........

Yeh Galerina have the annular ring :)

Just everyone remember you want the blue bruising and the purple spore print :)

To do a spore print simply cut the stem off as close to the cap as possible, place gills down on some white paper, leave for a day and when you take them off the spores will have dropped (in the case of subs, leaving a purply or purply/brown colour).

peace and happy (and SAFE) hunting :)

you'll see that unlike many other sepcies subs have a harder cap and stem........ and they look damn fine :)

I wish i had the time to eat more mushies this year. Unfortunately school has picked up a notch. :(

Umm... can anyone else see the problem with picking an unidentified mushroom, and then posting someone else's jpg from a previous season for an online ID before consuming?

Please post original pics for identification, or you may be getting an ID on something other than what you've picked. The differences may be subtle between a 'magic' mushroom and any other fungi, to the untrained eye. If you can't ID the mushroom, how do you know the JPG is a photo of the same mushies as you have picked?

BigTrancer :)

^^ yep. I can't recommend enough though looking at as many photographs as possible to become familar with what psilocybin containing mushrooms look like, and how they differ from deadly/dangerous species. The more you learn and the more familiar you are with identifying them the safer you will be.

/\ definatly......... that's the exact reason i posted the picture........ because it is a picture of subs that i believe reflect what they most commonly look like :)

BT- I am an experienced shroomer and was one hundred percent aware that it was pictures of subs being posted :) It wasn't posted for me (ie and id) but for inexperienced shroomers :D

peace

that pic that i took that Dj ScAtTeRfAcE posted is definitely Psilocybe subaeruginosa. I took the picture of the subs and ate it to:) .
Once you find subs on your own for the first time it will be hard to pick the wrong ones after that but its still possible, and i can see problems forming from people posting unidentified pics of mushrooms.

Me and a mate of mine went hunting for the first time in 2002 and trecked all over the south eastern suburbs of melbourne for subs but found nothing but nasty look alikes.
But once i found what i thought and later knew was Psilocybe subaeruginosa in 2003 i was finding them everywere.
EVERYWERE..
Yes misty mornings in winter are one of the major signs you wanna look for..........fuk i love shrooms.

i managed to find and pick a few today, plenty more youngens where i found them aswell :)

I agree with Alt now that i have found them. Even tho there are so many fakes that look alike out there, once you have worked out what the right ones really are it becomes easier to look past the fakes.

Those orange colored things looked so much like what i thought p.subs where untill i found the real thing.

Also a note to other new shroomers, the blue bruising is really really obvious, if you dont got that you dont got shrooms. It doesnt take long to go blue. And its probably the best sign that you got the real thing.

Another thing i noted was that contrary to all reports i actually thought they tasted ok, i am a mushroom fiend so that probably has something to do with it tho :)
