Mushroom Season 2011 UK / Ireland / Anywhere else

I still haven't gotten any. Really need to get up and bother to do so, or find a mushroom man in his mushroom van.

the potency isnt the same anymore either
used to trip for 12 hours on just 1, takes at least 5 to get anywhere near that now ;p

your right about these new mushrooms there just not like the older ones from yonder years gone.

was some lad on here called magicmushroomhead and he swears that there is something different in these mushrooms you get today.

it's something to do with the fertilisers they use, now that calcified seaweed has been banned for agricultural use they are using mineral based fertilisers instead....just doesn't have the same feel in the final product... :(

god. whatever happened to acid rain?!

I miss greenpeace bangin' on about it, and also seeing them handcuff themselves to grey furry seals n stuff... I was a member back in the day too

[@ Mailmonkey, I knew you were at first, hence my potency reply, but I took your fertilser comment to be a straight one, hence confusion ensued]

aaanyway. Indian summer doesnt seem to be reaching shroomdoomsday level temps, might go for a wander tomorrow and see if Ive got the balls to dodge the farmer and get to the bits of the field not on the public right of way. not sure im up for crawling under hawthorne and doing barrel rolls through ditches atm tho

My first lib?

Thanks for the swift reply! Yeah, there were a few smaller ones near it. It seems to be a little early for them though.

What's the best way to pick them to ensure more will grow again? Just cut it with a scissors and leave the root? I know if you do it incorrectly you could kill them all. . . . .

But yeah, not many around yet.

Thanks again.

After lurking here for the past couple days, I decided to take the scenic route on the way home from work yesterday. I knew there were no animals grazing or anything but thought I'd see if I could find anything anyway, if for nothing more than to kill time.

Managed to find a small patch of mushrooms, which I highly doubt are edible let alone magical... You guys seem to know your stuff when it comes to 'shrooms though, so hopefully someone knows what they are for future reference.

The fins have a violet-y sorta colour to the human eye, but all but the last two photos seem to have a red tinge to them, so not sure if it's my eyes or the camera that're screwed. The 'shrooms have shrunk and darkened quite a bit just being sat on me desk overnight too if that makes any difference?

I had a quick google around (using the "similar images" thing) but that was seemingly pointless. Does anyone know of any good "indexed-by-picture" sites for reference?

Yup, that's the way. I don't think it will kill them completely otherwise but it would damage the mycelium (root structure) near the surface, shocking them and possibly letting another non-funtime fungus to take hold, which is never good news. It is good as well to give them a little flick before picking them to spread the spores, also throwing a few on the ground where there are none, if you have a good few.

Speaking of a good few, has anyone tried to make liquour before?: http://mycotopia.net/archives/discus/messages/5/109756.html?1070939379. Five and a half years of a wait but it sounds superb.

Anyone find any in the south or west of Ireland (Limerick)? I assume it would be a few weeks behind the north in terms of cold and damp weather.

@accidentalM0nK3N: They are definitely not them. Type in "psilocybe semilanceata" and you should get some good pics. "Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World" by Paul Stamets is a good reference book, got it on a torrent a while back, here's the hash code for that torrent: magnet:?xt=urn:btih:grcfrpoy6l67rx5b54xzbreinq5py3up (instead of the :?, use : ? without the space between them)

^errrr, that's about 5 days wait, not 5 years i think..I think the link is saying that there was no loss in potency after 5 years in the "liqueur"

A "liquor" is my preferred method for shrooms, hits hard and fast, and the alcohol masks the unpleasant flavour.....nice and portable/potable too, and potency seems to be preserved....
