the official 10-11 NBA thread ver. LIKE A BOSH

If someone is the main cog in a dynasty that nets three rings, your city will always love him. It was time for him to go. He really couldn't play at anything close to Shaq from even three years ago. But Noone hates Shaq. Orlando fans might not like him, but I think they might have forgotten because of Mr Howard.

One thing no one has talked about is the new CBA. No one has a clue as to how this will affect them. There might be a hard cal at 75 million. That would completely screw Dallas and Miami.

as usual, good points. I go to Orlando once a year and I always talk sports and I did hear some people bring up Shaq again, this year most recently. I think it was mostly because Dwight's obvious severance is looming; and there are a ton of parallels that O-town fans can compare betweeen Dwight and Shaq

In every instance I've ever heard of Shaq playing anywhere... it's always been said that he's a great personality and does wonders for the community. Respect to the big man!

^ yeah, he's a clown and a lot of people like clowns.

Unfortunately he also sends gangs to beat you down if you catch him on a security camera sexing up some lucky lady.

Seven alleged gang members are charged with kidnapping and robbing Robert Ross. Prosecutors told CNN they haven't verified that the sex tape exists.

Ross testified at a preliminary hearing Monday and alleged he was kidnapped at gunpoint in 2008 in Hollywood by members of the Main Street Mafia Crips Gang, in which he had previously been a member. Ross said he was struck with a gun and robbed of jewelry and $15,000 in cash.

In more shocking news... Bob Ross was a Crip! I guess that explains all the blue he'd wear.

I have hope for some reason, even though mid-market teams competing in the NBA are starting to become a thing of the past

and I don't mean any offense 3, 4. I used to like the Miami Heat and I am a D-Wade fan by some standards, it's just that being a lifelong Cleveland Cavs fan there is no way that I can not hate the Miami Heat forever now

I'd like to open up a new topic of discussion for all of you here, a topic that has been pushed aside during all the crazy NBA Finals hoopla most recently here... and that topic is the retirement of Shaquille O'Neil

most NBA and NCAA hoops fans are also fans of Shaq. shit, I love Shaq even though he appreciated most of his value as a LA Laker. and on the flip side of the sword, most LA fans still regard Shaq with warmth despite his defection controversy. that tells you something about his character

although he might not be the best NBA Center of all-time, again I give my props to Kareem. he still could be considered in the Top 5 (or is this crazy? whaddya all think?)

I would say Bill Russell, Hakeem "the Dream," Wilt, Kareem, and Shaq would all somehow make up my list for Top 5 Centers of all-time. and damn, do I love watching dominating centers play in the league (almost as much as poetically agile PG play)

I'm a Laker fan and I still love Shaq. Still one of my favorite players ever regardless of what happened.

IMO.

1. Kareem
2. Shaq
3. Wilt
4. Russell
5. Hakeem

Prime Shaq was just as dominant as prime Jordan.

LOL

I'm still not too worried about the Knicks if they sign him, however. Melo and Amare have wasted half their careers being one way players, and they need a guy to teach them to play with the kind of defensive intensity they are capable of, which will take a couple years. Obviously, Dwight and Billups are both great two way guys, but Melo is too much of a liability. Amare at least makes up for it and eats a lot of space. But Melo is the most overrated player in the game to me, scoring and rebounding machine that he is.

Think about it. The Knicks got worse after they got this "superstar." I would rate Bosh and Gasol ahead of him.

Lol Melo is not overrated and he can play defense, as evidenced in the 2009 WCF. He's a great on ball defender when he wants to be... but why should he play defense w/ the Knicks if no one else does? Defense is a team effort. If they get a good, defensive minded coach or assistant coach, he'll definitely start playing defense and improve his team/help defense too.

But if the team philosophy is to run and gun and chuck a bunch of threes while not giving a shit about the other end of the floor, why should he care?

Wow... so aside from the fact that this really has nothing to do with basketball. Obama threw a pretty terrible first pitch as well. He balked the FUCK outta that shit AND he looked like he was trying to brush back George Muresan.

See how I made it about basketball after all?

I think Shaq would push Russell and Wilt out of the paint but you have to give it up for Russell's numbers and rings for being considerably smaller than Wilt and Shaq. Wilt was taller than most of his opponents and Shaq had 60+ lbs on them.

Which, btw, reminds me... I'm going to leave it at this because I'm not trying to turn this into a Lebron thread again, but I found it peculiar that he changed his number because he said nobody in basketball should wear the number 23 again after Michael Jordan... then he changed his number to number 6. Bill Russell's number.

/Lebron Hating.

I would agree with the above centers list but have shaq as #3 maybe #4 with

its hard not to put moses malone on that list but damn they are all quality ass centers.

you know the mavs really havent gotten enough love for what they did, think about this. they had to beat miami, LA, OKC, and portland three of those teams were considered contenders and the other was considered by many to be the toughest of the lower seeds. hell of a playoff run, and a hell of a performance by dirk, with a few gems provided by terry, and then kidd making all the right moves at all the right times.

just wanted to throw that out there because of as others in here have said, too much of the focus has gone on how bad Lebron played by the media rather than how good the mavs run was (im definitely in that club)

but dallas that was one hell of a post season

I agree. Being that I'm a Clevelander... I often get too caught up in my Lebron hate, but I mentioned during the Finals how it was really fucking annoying that, prior to game 3, the build up in the pregame was centered around how Miami collapsed in game 2 and at the end of the Miami fluffing they said "America wants to know... how will the Heat rebound from game 2!" Actually... I was wondering more on how the Mavs would build off of their incredible come back.

I'm really happy for the Mavs as a whole. And you know what... I'll at least give the city of Miami (which you should all know my hatred for that city) props for not burning the city to the ground and rioting like Vancouver did after losing the Stanley Cup Finals.

What? No love for Luke Longley? :( ;)

I'd have Wilt at number 2 only because the man forced the rules of the game to be change because he was so dominant. Kareem on the other hand was just a joy to watch.

I love Shaq. I doubt we will see another Big, big man with such a long career as his.

Thanks for giving some D town love. I hate most other sports related forums. I was reading some of the generic posts and threads. Of course it floated to top five players right now. And most people gave Dirk 1 Wade 2 or Wade 1 Dirk 2. I completely agree with both of those. But something that floored me was this.

For me itd be
1. Kobe
2. Gasol
3. Rose
4. Fisher
5. Wade

6. Odom

I love that list. And that leads me to the conversation at hand.

My top five 5's all time
1 Tyson Chandler
2 Brenden Haywood
3 Erik Dampier
4 Segana Diop
5 Shaq
6 Dirk

That's my top five list.
