the official 10-11 NBA thread ver. LIKE A BOSH

Great retort. Spoken like a man who REALLY has it all figured out.

It's crazy how you're able to SEEM like you know so much, while spouting off so little that actually verifies it. I'm not sure I even know why anyone still responds to you. We all know you're an idiot/troll, but yet... you get us every time. If you spent as much time watching basketball as you did trolling... you'd probably actually be a worthwhile read.

he mad.

Just kidding. :D Ryan, you're a Cleveland fan, right? What do you think about the Mike Brown hiring? (big lol @ axl bringing up he was coach of the year)

Dick. :D

Yeah, definitely a Cleveland fan.

I thought it was weird as fuck! It kinda came out of the blue. Plus, the impression that I always got while Mike Brown was in Cleveland (and this was coming from both Cleveland fans and non Cleveland fans) was that Brown was Lebron's puppet, along for the ride. I'm not confirming or denying that, but that's just what it seemed like everyone thought. So that being the general consensus and the fact that he got them TO the finals in 07, but didn't bring it home... I was MORE than shocked to hear out of the blue that Mike Brown was the new coach of the Lakers... a team with more relevance than the Cavs had even WITH Lebron.

I hope he does well though.

Well, my mom just went to rehab for the 4th time and left me with a shitload of oxy. So, as I said, once I get high I'll change my avatar, Serious.

Probably going to spend another $100 on heroin sometime this week. I was just getting over the need to do drugs after my Heat lost, and then this shit came up. But at least I'm going to be high for a week because of it!

I'm changing my avatar back on the 17th of next month. Perfect date, the premier of Breaking Bad. I have to find some awesome Jesse avatar to put in there by then, I cannot abide wearing the shame of this avatar for too long.

Man I dont know you or your drug history or anything so if I am offbase please forgive me. But its just a game bro getting hooked on opiates especially heroin because I bunch of over payed spoiled athletes lost would be a crying shame. All those guys from the heat are in Maui chillin drinkin crystal or whatever they do. Sorry I know that is none of my business but as a recovering heroin addict that shit just jumped off the page at me. You seem like a cool guy.

Thanks man. I know how it is, I just take my sports very seriously as I would have no relationship with my father if we didn't like sports. He's an oldschool retired Jewish mafia guy (now 100% legit, used to work with the Italianos in the 70's and the Colombians in the 80's, not a nice guy, but we get along because of sports and a shared passion for literature, that's Jewish crime for you) and I'm really using again cause my mom has been a benzo zombie for the past 3 years and just up and decided to go to rehab today out of nowhere. So it is just a bunch of shit piling on top of each other.

Have no fear, I jump right back on the bupe again when my binges are over. I've learned my lessons about doing this too often. I promise you I will be alive and sober by the end of the week. But seriously, thanks.

$110K bar tab +$20k tip. Nice. Would literally have killed to have been waiting on him.

You would kill someone for $20,000? Guess the user name fits.

I'm glad Dirk won one. Personally, I wish he would rock the Kaiser Wilhelm facial hair instead of the Ostrogoth look but as long as he keeps it German I've got no beef. Let's not forget though - until this year Dirk was known as a choke artist. He was there when the Mavs lost to the 8th seeded Warriors. And he was there when the Mavs lost to Miami after going up 2 games to 0. And he was there when the Mavs collapsed, uh, all those other times. The idiot play by play guy for the Lakers (I fucking hate this guy, I wish he would die) remarked right before the Lakers-Dallas series that the Lakers must be licking their chops to get at the Mavericks, because historically they are weak and easy to beat. Well, win one for the Dirkler. We won't think of him like that any more.

As for Hollinger - those stats should not be leaned on too heavily. Henry Abbot loves the stats - he's also a raging idiot - but stats never tell the whole story or else the Rockets would be counting their trophies. Truehoop used to be good when nobody knew about it. Now it's just like when South Park got popular - it sucks.

I think it should be noted also (in regards to Kam's ultra intelligent sources) that your stats and information are still coming from the media, just a different source then some other peoples' stats and information.

You would kill someone for $20,000? Guess the user name fits.

psychopaths kill for pleasure - lots of people kill for much less than 20g and aren't psychopaths.

I took out a 9 year old for a mars bar once. To be fair, the kid was kind of douche.

Stats may never tell the whole story but NOTHING does - all we have are various flawed perspectives to view the same thing from.

I hate stat sluts, in any sports argument

If I weren't so high right now I'd hate you for what you just posted ;)

Just kidding, I understand the Cleveland hating. I've seen what LeBron can do, and that guy is going to win us multiple championships. I see why you guys got so pissed when he left. Playoff troubles aside, him and Wade are the most fun players to watch in the league.

I hope Cleveland does really well in the draft so that we are playing you guys in the future playoffs. I'm kind of rooting for you guys to the first to beat us assuming we have a dynasty coming (i.e. 3-peat at the least, Miami needs one). After that I hope you guys steal a series from us, and then we go on another run.

Cleveland does deserve a championship, despite how classless you guys were (and some of you still are) regarding LeBron James. I also understand that it was Cleveland versus Miami, and despite what the media says, we have some loyal ass fans with no class (me, sometimes). It was classless loyalty vs. classless loyalty. Ugly combination. I'm surprised I actually like you so much, actually.

We Miamians are just too poor to afford to go to games, and the owners down here really overcharge, so the worst crowds (old Jews who only go to see their friends) usually get the best seats.

And I so agree with the first part of your post. I remember when we had ten pages of stat-whorism on here, and I was so disgusted I couldn't even post. Basketball is about aesthetics, athleticism, and heart. If you like stats watch baseball or something. Leave it out of my NBA.

3,4... even though that was directed toward axl, I also appreciate the sentiments. And even though it's been said COUNTLESS times, I'll say it again... it's not THAT he left, it's the WAY he left. If LBJ had signed with another team without his hour special... I'd have been disappointed, but I'd have probably just said "fuck... back to square one." The fact that he requested and got an hour long special to defect from his hometown team (and yes I know he's actually from Akron, not Cleveland... but practically the same thing) and used the boys and girls club as a smokescreen... that shit REALLY rubbed me the wrong way. I know the dude had no obligations to stay here and I have no beef with him leaving, but he didn't have to be such a fuck ass about it on his way out. He's FROM here, he KNOWS how much we love our sports and he KNOWS the heartache we've been through over the years... so to be so blatantly disrespectful to the Cleveland fan base? I mean... fuck all that.

Also... I've never seen so many bandwagoners in one fan base. It's really disgusting to me. As a sports fan... I see it two ways... you usually either LOVE your home teams or you love the teams that were winning when you were a little kid. And I can accept both of those reasons for having favorite teams, but when there's so many Miami jerseys and shirts around northeast Ohio... clearly there's a shit ton of antagonistic assholes. That's the thing about Ohio. There are two kinds of fans... those who love the home teams and those who HATE everything Ohio and antagonize to no end. I don't get how someone who's born and raised in Ohio can hate on Ohio teams so much AND take offense to being called a front runner. Isn't hating a team because they don't have championships the same as loving a team because they do? It's still being a front runner in my opinion.

But I definitely agree with you that stat whores are annoying. Stats only tell half the story. There are SO many intangibles in every sport. Anyone who thinks they get the full story from the stats... shouldn't even be allowed to partake in sports conversation.

I really agree with you there. I'm a born and raised Miami fan, of the Hurricanes first, The Dolphins second, and the Heat third. I can give a shit about the Florida Panthers (Ice Hockey team in Florida wtf) and I hate the Marlins (they have fucked with my football too much, and the stadium was the last straw) but holy shit, I see why you guys were so pissed off. I would be pissed if we lost Wade, but it would drive me nuts if we lost Wade and half of Miami started sporting his Chicago jersey. That is douchebaggery. I wouldn't care so much about Chicago fans gloating, but if half of our own city abandoned the team because it had to start over I would be pretty pissed too.

I also hate all these Miami Hurricanes fans from New York and shit with no affiliation to the city of Miami or it's University. Just a bunch of (now old) wanna be thugs who followed a winner. They drive me crazy on Hurricanes boards, because they didn't go to UM (which is ok on its own, I didn't go to UM, I might, but it is fucking expensive) or come from the city (which is OK if you went to the University) and they sit there laughing in the face of diehard fans of other Miami sports teams like the Dolphins (who have been struggling lately) and The Heat (who had a bad Finals). I know to expect mostly apes at homer boards, but I'm still compelled to go there. It's like getting blown by $5 dollar crackwhores though, I feel sick after I do it.

As to "The Decision," I see where you are coming from a little better now. However, LeBron did want to get it over with in the first 10 minutes and ESPN and the interviewer did push it longer. Could he have phrased it better? Fuck yeah. People who tout South Beach as Miami know nothing about Miami. I fucking hate South Beach. Only athletes on tourist trips and super rich tourists and super rich Miami natives who have somehow not been exposed to just how grimy this city is, and how lovely it is for all the grime, like to go to South Beach regularly. The Grove or Downtown area is where it is at at night.

Also If you haven't been down NW 36th street or NW 2nd ave or NW 54st or at the very least a little bit of Perrine (basically at least one of our ghettos, not limiting true Miamians to just these areas), then you don't know Miami for what it really is.

Still, no apologies for the party Wade, Bosh, and LeBron had though. It was for locals. ESPN decided to broadcast it nationwide because they wanted to push the anti-LeBron til he wins a championship agenda (watch what happens when he does) in order to grab emotions and ratings. I watched it on local TV. I was surprised the next day to find out that it was nation wide. We had every right to celebrate the greatest Free-Agent haul of all time. I'm just sad that they didn't win in their first year, but no way it doesn't come around in the second. Realistically, making (and losing) the Finals in your first year as a team really isn't an embarrassment at all. The media just propped this team up to be something it wasn't ready to be yet.

Ahhh, still coping though. I have no NFL to look forward to this year, and my Canes are rebuilding. Fucking sucks.

If the Lakers score Dwight, Kobe will have a sixth ring before LeBron is done "apologizing" for being himself.

Laker's ain't scoring Dwight. Not after Mike Brown. Great regular season coach, and a good reputation as a defensive coach (although LeBron was always determined to be a two way player) but he doesn't have the rep to sign him. Especially with the Lakers embarrassing second round exit. Too much drama in there right now anyways. Dwight probably doesn't want to go into that situation, with Kobe aging and all. He doesn't quite look the same player. He is still damn good, but no longer the number one in the league, not even top 5.

I think it will go down in a trade, and I don't think Bynum (always injured) and Gasol (too soft) would overtake Bosh plus a few Heat pieces, or Noah and Boozer. Boozer is a damn good player, and a better fit for the Magic than the Bulls. If it does go down to Free Agency, I think he goes with the Knicks. Then you can be a Knick fan again.

I'm still not too worried about the Knicks if they sign him, however. Melo and Amare have wasted half their careers being one way players, and they need a guy to teach them to play with the kind of defensive intensity they are capable of, which will take a couple years. Obviously, Dwight and Billups are both great two way guys, but Melo is too much of a liability. Amare at least makes up for it and eats a lot of space. But Melo is the most overrated player in the game to me, scoring and rebounding machine that he is.

Think about it. The Knicks got worse after they got this "superstar." I would rate Bosh and Gasol ahead of him.

I think it may have been LL that made this analogy, but referring to Miami as South Beach is like referring to NYC as Times Square.

But I agree... making it to the Finals in your first year as a team really isn't anything to be ashamed of. My thought, though, is that even though they'll be much better next year, all the other teams will have a full season of footage to refer to as well as the Finals tapes. Does that mean the Heat will have a worse season than last year? Doubt it, but it gives me hope. :D

But yeah, Ohio is rife with with antagonists who throw every loss in our faces. Besides the obvious shortcomings of my teams (The Fumble, The Drive, The Shot, The Decision, the 2007 Finals, the 1995 World Series, the 1997 World Series, and the 2007 ALCS collapse to name a few), I have to put up with hearing every little thing about the Indians blowing their big lead, the Cavs only winning 19 games, the Browns who even when going 10-6 still miss the playoffs because the Steelers beat them twice that year, etc. Not to mention when the Browns moved to Baltimore... 2 years later they win a Super Bowl. So Lebron leaving Cleveland the way he did to go to Miami and win a championship in the first year??? You can imagine the backlash that Ohio fans would have had to put up with for-FUCKING-ever. You can't blame me for NEEDING the Mavs to beat the Heat. :)

I just don't get how there are so many assholes in Ohio that hate on everything local. Realistically, though, even when Cleveland finally gets a championship... the haters will still say it was a fluke. Cleveland needs a dynasty to shut people up. God only knows why Cleveland's held to such an impossible standard. Seems like nobody (athletes) wants to come here and so many people wanna shit talk about how awful Cleveland is. You can see why we LOVE people like Peyton Hillis. He's a relevant talent and he actually loves being in Cleveland.

Anyways... I'm derailing, my bad. It's like 7:30 in the morning. I shouldn't even be awake. That said... I'm really excited to see how the draft goes this year. Cleveland is obviously rebuilding. May not be good for a couple years still... but at least we finally have a chance to build the Cavs back up the right way instead of hoping for a quick and easy fix.

the only chance Cleveland has to not suck horrible is their head coach (I like Byron Scott) and their two first round draft picks (too bad the draft is weak this year)

and I agree that stats are more for sports like baseball, even football. the only time we need stats in the NBA is at their most basic and useful form

I have hope for some reason, even though mid-market teams competing in the NBA are starting to become a thing of the past

and I don't mean any offense 3, 4. I used to like the Miami Heat and I am a D-Wade fan by some standards, it's just that being a lifelong Cleveland Cavs fan there is no way that I can not hate the Miami Heat forever now

I'd like to open up a new topic of discussion for all of you here, a topic that has been pushed aside during all the crazy NBA Finals hoopla most recently here... and that topic is the retirement of Shaquille O'Neil

images

most NBA and NCAA hoops fans are also fans of Shaq. shit, I love Shaq even though he appreciated most of his value as a LA Laker. and on the flip side of the sword, most LA fans still regard Shaq with warmth despite his defection controversy. that tells you something about his character

although he might not be the best NBA Center of all-time, again I give my props to Kareem. he still could be considered in the Top 5 (or is this crazy? whaddya all think?)

I would say Bill Russell, Hakeem "the Dream," Wilt, Kareem, and Shaq would all somehow make up my list for Top 5 Centers of all-time. and damn, do I love watching dominating centers play in the league (almost as much as poetically agile PG play)
