This is sort of tough to address because if you're someone who knows clean mdma, then it's really not hard to tell when you've got something else or even something mixed in.
HOWEVER, there are a couple of factors that come into play that can make it difficult for younger or less experienced users. The first is that even clean mdma doesn't always hit you exactly the same. It depends on dosage, how much filler, your environment, mood, etc. That being said, after years of use, you eventually pick up on the variations of how clean mdma will effect you. The second factor is tolerance. This comes into play in mixed pills. Because my tolerance is high, if a pill is cut, I almost always will feel what it's cut with more than the mdma.
Also, you're forgetting that certain pipes will at onset feel a little bit similar to the mdma come up. Some pipes will make you feel like you're coming up for hours without ever getting a real roll. This being the case, it's not hard to understand why many people mistake these pills for low dose mdma...especially with how little mdma is actually in pills nowadays...at least in my area.
The problem that's going on in nyc seems to be compounding itself. Younger kids that party more have been flooded with pipes, combo and low dose pills. They weren't around for the "good 'ol days." It's not their fault, but they don't know what they're missing...strong clean pills. The problem is they're the ones who create most of the demand because they're in the prime of their party years, and what they're demanding is not quality, but quantity. They're able to get pills for a fraction of the cost of pills years ago (pipes are cheap), and that makes them profitable for resale. The problem is feeding itself because the more kids that take crap pills thinking they're mdma, the less real mdma will ever be demanded. It's sort of difficult to articulate, but I've been witnessing this first hand for awhile now.
I'm not saying there's not any actual mdma out there or people that know what good mdma is, but profit is there to be made for pipe dealers, so things aren't going to change until people stop buying AND selling them. I know kids that have gained a better understanding of good e from being exposed to my "pickiness" in pills, but they still buy and sell pipes cause there's money to be made doing it.
The sad part is that ecstasy as a drug seems to have fallen out of popularity. Lots of kids I talk to aren't really "that into e." Can you blame them with all the garbage they probably swallow with the assumption that that is what mdma feels like?
Why do some people think they rolled when they didn't, I don't really understand? Aren't the effects pretty obvious, and pretty sure nothing other than MDMA makes you feel like that, maybe heroin lol?
