I can't believe something like that would EVER happen at a rave. I mean I'm 19 so I haven't been to raves when they were first coming around but I mean - fuck that shit. Raping someone at a rave? Where's the fucking love?

They raped her at a rave, took pictures, and then put the pictures on the internet. There's disgusting and terrible. I never thought a rave would ever be like this... Fucking kids need to get a life. Personally I play sets at raves WEEKLY and I would probably stop entirely if anything like this happened at one of my raves. This disgusting and makes raves look even worse than what society already thinks!

Sorry if this is the wrong section, perhaps this should be in the news section or something. I thought it would go here since raves are kinda connected to Ecstasy in a way...

Now that I double-think it, I feel a bit stupid for putting it here. Please do move if you think its necessary xD

I've seen that on the news awhile back,
Fucking disgusting, if I saw this at a rave id immediately call the police and stop the whole thing.
Can't believe it would happen at a rave, house partys maybe but raves? Jeez

god damn canadians!! jk.
but in all seriousness, that is some fucked up shit and its even more fucked up no one around did anything.....

That is disgusting!!! I didn't realize that even happened.
Not that I will ever condone it BUT
... bad things will happen.
Bad things happen at school, on the streets, in clubs, everywhere.
On occasion, bad things will happen at raves.
But raves are still a lot more friendly and loving than regular clubs and bars, right?
Something like this is still, without doubt, terrible.

Yeah that's crazy. I had a psych class once where talked about how people are waaaay less likely to help someone if a crime is forced on someone in public because of a lack of a sense of responsibility, as opposed to if someone was being raped in a room with only you in it you wouldn't be able to say "Not my problem" as easily and ignore it.

Wonders why, when something happens at a rave it's front page news. When someone gets shot/stabbed/raped at a hiphop club (probably happens 10 fold), It's not worth a mention.

Shit happens everywhere.. but you can't let one article do damage to the rave culture.

that really sucks. coincidentally i heard today of two girls who went to my high school in like, the nineties, who both got raped at a rave they went to as a couple. so i don't doubt that that stuff happened earlier in the scene, but i also sadly would expect it to happen more as the scene is becoming more popular and attracting more and more different kinds of people.

Just to touch on the overall mentality of the rave culture, I think it all depends on what city, and which club. Like at my rave club, it's straight PLUR. Good example, I've been going to Afterlife in Dallas for about a year, and I've NEVER seen anything like that, I've never even seen a fight in the club.

That's why PLUR is an amazing philosophy. If everyone keeps it in mind, no problems ever arise

I would be pretty shocked if that happened at a rave around here, but even though raves usually have a really good crowd I guess shit like this can happen anywhere. Can't imagine how traumatizing that must be.

horrible yes, but i live in the area, and there's more to the story than what's being released by the media. but whatever

Ugh. Thankfully nothing like this has happened in the Seattle scene but even since I started raving about a year ago it's seem to have gone a bit downhill.

If you have read any of my earlier post about the scene in the UK - it changed from Peace Love Unity and respect to Peach Love Unity and Rape!

People would actively goto raves and seek out people who they knew were in no fit state and basically rape/rob them - this was happening at the mainstream legal events.

You really need to look after each other when your out clubbing/raving - not everyone is who they make out to be. Stay in groups and dont be afraid to report anything dodgy to the security (even if your high).

At benny benassi, in May, there was a dude who grabbed a girl's crotch while my friend was waiting in line for the bathroom behind him. My friend D is a big guy, what you'd call a "bear" and he bitch slapped him so hard he fell on the ground.

The girls were really greatful and gave him a couple pills.

^^Haha, hell yeah, I love when people stand up for strangers! I really do think it's just a few bad seeds who fuck it up and make a bad name for the scene. There are assholes everywhere, I think there are relatively few of them at raves but since they're already "taboo" the media makes love to the story and use it to sell papers or get site hits.

Very sad indeed. This stuff happens though, and raves are no exception. It seems to happen less, which is good, but if you think about it, it's a great place for scumbags with bad intentions to go since a large chunk of the party-goers are feeling really good and some are more trusting than they should be. I don't think it's really a reflection on the "scene" though, these guys probably just knew they'd be able to get away with their complete FUCKTARDARY there.

I would like to add that it really bugs me that they just slapped the child porn charge in there. These guys are scum and deserve to be locked up but no matter how angry this makes us all feel, a 16 year old is not a child.

Also, anyone who bullies a rape victim really needs to go somewhere far away. I mean seriously...

That sucks, please don't let this be a misconception of how it is everywhere because its not.

Here, our parties are like 500 people and there is a good vibe. We all know each other, and I don't see a gang rape ever happening. Public sex on the other hand, sometimes people just lose themselves in the moment.

But if someone seemed to be like unconscious or struggling, i would find something heavy and break their face with it.

In my mind the only appropriate time to roofie or GHB someone is if you intend to shanghai them to wake up in a pile of other people that had the same thing happen and be in underwear or naked on a bed miles out to sea on a yacht with larges piles of drugs just kind of sitting on a table.

Bonus points if they all agreed to it in some fine print in a waiver before a party.

I only say that because i would think that it would be the most awesome thing ever to wake up in a daze in a cuddle puddle of people if not naked, almost naked. And there just be piles of molly, ketamine, nitrous tank, half pound of awesome herb with smoking devices, and all the other fun stuff club kids like with very little explanation of how everyone ended up there.

thats horrible.

I think the term "rave" has extended beyond its original meaning to many large EDM festivals where people act crazily, and the philosophy is FAR from PLUR.

I have decided to stop attending raves (or at least certain raves) because I have noticed this lack of respect, and general attitude that I do not like.

I hope that there are still raves out there that deserve the name, and that I could have a good time at, but I am still waiting to find one.

Btw, if anyone knows what Im talking about, and could recommend some raves in the LA area that have the right attitude and feeling about them, I would greatly appreciate that.
