the guitar players megathread

=endless possibilities

Favorite guitar I've ever owned would be my '91 Gibson SG Standard , sounds best IMHO through either a Fender Deluxe or Vox AC30 amp. I'm definitely a Gibson guy (as opposed to a Fender guy, when it comes to guitars mind you) ... while I've always thought that Jazzmasters and Jaguars were really cool looking they don't sound as good as they look unfortunately

my fave instrument was my us telecaster:

My first 'proper' guitar was a '68 Tele - sold it and an AC30 to buy a fridge 8) - was lucky enough to have a '59 double-cutaway Les Paul Special (neck snapped 8o) - have a '91 Les Paul Special and 2K US Strat' these days - if only I had it in me to make the time to get a band together and use'em as they're meant to be used :X:\

TG I love that Jaguar :D

T'anks. :)

I'm much happier with it now. I went to a different place this time, took my pre-bought pick up with me too. The bloke only charged me £15 for installation and lowering the action on it as far as it would go. In fact, he looked like an older version of you. I had to do a double take. 40 year old whore. :D

Guitar Players of Bluelight !

If your a serious guitar player here on bluelight; lets here a shoutout! What do you prefer, acoustic or electric? What kind of equipment do you use? What songs do you like to play/sing to at parties? etc..

Personally I prefer acoustic guitars, with cedar or mahogany tops. Lately I've been playing a lot of breedlove and seagull guitars when I go to guitar center. Great deals on those brands.

I have a '66 "blackface" Fender bassman that I play my fender strat and P-bass through.

At parties I love to play "say it ain't so" and have everyone sing along.

How bout y'all?

I prefer Electric but go through different phases where I'll play more acoustic like I am currently.

I have a yamaha acoustic
Some crappy gibson custom model electric and then some Good Strat offshoot electric but honestly I forgot the model name at the moment.

Acoustic favorite songs:

Nutshell-Alice in Chains
Layla-Eric Clapton
Something-The Beatles
Patience-Guns n Roses
Hurt-Johnny Cash

Favorite Electric Songs:

Whole Lotta Love-Led Zeppelin
Spoonman-Soundgarden
Lateralus - Tool (Not great at it)
Machinehead- Bush
Sweet Leaf- Black Sabbath

I enjoy playing my own compositions as well.

^do you have recordings?

I actually do have some solo recordings, I have some electronic stuff up on myspace from kind of a crappy program (Acid- standard program edition) www.myspace.com/electrolite420 and then I have some solo guitar stuff on my ipod but I need to get a new ipod adapter to upload that stuff on the computer. Ultimately i'm trying to fuse my guitar playing with some of that electronic stuff but I need to get better electronic equipment and learn how to use it better for sure.

I'm not sure that link will work but let me know.

i have no preference in terms of electric or acoustic. i have a nice powerhouse strat and some sort of cheap Yamaha from forever ago (acoustic), it gets the job done. ive got a fender stage 100 watt amp. used to be the typical guitar god wanna be, now im more in the background. i prefer playing drums though. ive only written one song i like and a friend of mine was pretty emphatic about how good it was (not the traditional insincere "thats great i really liked that" response). he said it sounds like a cross between tom waits and floyd. idk i think its garbage.

I've been playing for around 14-15 years. I dunno whether that counts as being a serious player cuz I've never studied the whole technical side of things. In other words, I'm self taught. I play by ear. I prefer simplicity over complexity as I feel the simple melodies are the ones we remember the most.

I like Fender guitars, electric, not acoustic. My favourite guitar I own is my Mustang (this thread needs pics ;)).

I love playing Nirvana songs, but I'm kinda in awe of Mary Timony's playing and have been for a while. Her style is simple, yet her different tunings make it sound very textured, unique and melodic. She also favours Fender guitars, namely Jazzmasters and Mustangs. :)

have been playing for 18 years. Have had all sorts of guitars over the years had a nice american strat among others.... many were pawned for dope money lol....one i especially miss is a 1976 ibanez concord 699. gorgeous guitar. blonde body with beautiful inlays on the back with some nice flame action in the wood. played like a dream and sounded even better. Man that was a sad day.

I still play though, i bought an epiphone les paul one day out of the blue because it played nice and was cheap. As for amps i used to have a nice fender hotrod deville with a 12". It was one of the older made in the USA models. once again sold that when i was totally broke. Had some cool effects pedals too, vox wah, ds2 distortion, digitech rp6. The rp6 was one of my fav's, sold that too but bought one with the epiphone for like 20$ lol no lie. Its outdated but still fun.

I have an acoustic and an electric. I love playing Bach's things. It's great on the electric one, and quite easy with the tabs.

been playing for circa 15 years, still not much more than a ham fisted basher!owned quite a few guitars over the years, lost most of em during my smackhead years.shame. only 1 i have always kept and treasured is my 12 string 360 rickenbacker. still trying to live out my johnny marr fantasies!
