the guitar players megathread

I went shopping after work today in the hopes of finding a nice Fender Jazzmaster. But I tell you, they were all either black or sunburst. I saw the Lee Ronaldo one for like £1,500 or something crazy like that. But really, I don't like the colour very much. I was so disappointed. Then I ended up getting caught up in some student protests and it took me forever to get home. :X

I really want either a pink or orange one, failing that, a nice pale blue or surf green. :)

Look at z'at. <3

I play a lot of electric guitar, satch style kind of stuff. My main axe is a studio LP, that thing rips. I'm studying music theory right now, i'm loving it.

Have been playing for 11.5 years.

Main axe is a Fender Strat which is left-handed, but strung righty.

Signature tone is: Tonebender MKII=> Fuzz Factory=> 2 different octave up fuzzes=>

Favorite bands (tons but here's a few):

Royal Trux
Vermonster
Les Rallizes Denudes

Longest running project: March Of The Carpenter Ants (Freestyle psych noise)

I've been playin guitar for about 7 years now. I don't have the greatest equipment but i make do. I have a washburn acoustic guitar i bought from my buddy for like 80 bucks. Not even sure how much it retails for or what model it is, but it's not terrible, it does its job. For an electric guitar i have an old crappy aria mac-50 which was a pretty guitar when i got it but is pretty cheaply made and the thing has been falling apart since i got it lol. My other guitar is a mexican made fender stratocaster, which i am quite satisfied with, and is the guitar i usually play. If anyone needs an upgrade from their crappy starter set guitar I'd seriously suggest getting a mexican made strat because they are very good quality for the price. Probably the best guitar you can get under 500 dollars.

For an amp i have a marshall 50DFX and it's a great amp. Very nice clean tone as well as some decent distortion.

I haven't been playing a whole lot recently but I was actually pretty good for a while, I used to practice a lot. I literally sat around all summer a few years ago just practicing scales, and i can improvise quite well now because of it.

I've only been playing for a couple years, and I'm not too serious, but I would definately consider myself a "guitar player".
I really prefer electric guitar, and I have an ESP Ltd EC-1000 which I play on my Line 6 Spider IV 120 amp. I like playing pretty heavy music :)
I also have an acoustic guitar, but it's just a shitty "Eterna" which is made by Yamaha. It really sucks, but it's playable.

I ended up going back to the shop where I saw the Lee Ranaldo Jazzmaster...and bought it. :D

T'is a thing of beauty. :)

i've been playing guitar for 7 years now. i play an epiphone les paul studio gothic through a line 6 spider II 75w.

i've never played in a band but i've been writing my own songs for the entire time i've played. these days i mostly play with a very clean tone and a LOT of delay. i play straight up quarter/half/whole note delay patterns as well as syncopated patterns where the delay overlaps my original part either 3, 5, or 7 eigth notes later. the syncopated parts are my favorites to play.

some of my biggest influences are king crimson, explosions in the sky, pink floyd, and opeth, to name just a few...

i've got some demos up here http://escapegoat.bandcamp.com/

i just recently got a computer back after a year and a half of being without, so i should have some newer and more intricate tracks soon...

oh, all those demos are one single guitar track, all done in one take at my friend's place last week. since it was just one take per piece the performances aren't as good as i would like them to be... they're good just not perfect =p

Jackson rhoads ftw biatch, once you play one for a little while and you don't go back. The rr3 model is a rock solid instrument with a dead-on FR-licensed setup, for the win you want to have genuine but this one is seriously durable and probably one of the best licensed ones out there based on what ive heard of other brand's models. Ive been abusing it pretty constantly for 3+ years and havent had a single tuning issue (tho I have had to replace the locking screws at both ends). The neck is still bolt on which obstructs the high fret access somewhat, I would love to acquire the next model up, jap-made with neck thru (and genuine FR).

Also FTW- POD two point thru mxr 10-band eq. Actually, get the eq no matter what you play thru. Itll take you right there tone-wise.

thenightwatch: I like your influences :)

I've been playing since I was about 14, so 6 years.

At the moment I'm using a Jackson DKMGT with a Line6 spider II 212.

I'm looking into getting a 7 string atm. Really been getting into a lot of progressive metal over the last couple of years.

^Might not be your thing but appreciate the talent. This guy is taking progressive guitar playing to a new level.

Dudes I got a job at guitar center now and I'm the front door guy. So that means I don't worry about selling anything and I just answer phones and take certification tests online to expand product/store knowledge. It also means I have the time to sit around and jam on an acoustic and just chat with people or surf the internet all day. It's sweet!
I'm surrounded by all this great gear and as soon as I get 90 days under my belt I get a fucking amazing store discount.
Wholesale price! On anything except Mesa Boogie amps or gear. Those things have to be full price for EVERYONE and we don't make any money off it hardly. Like maybe just enough to cover shipping costs. But it's such a nice item we have to carry it. Boogie amps are the greatest.

This is what I used to play with. The Warlock on the left is my dads. The Warlock on the right is what I used to play. My fiance at the time got it for me as a Christmas gift. After we split up, I traded the Warlock for the gold top Les Paul knock-off you see in the second pic.

This is what I noodle on now. The one on the left my dad gave me about 15 years ago. It was one of his first axes. It's an old Micro-Frets, Golden Comet semi-hollow body. I have it strung up to mimic a 7 string guitar. The low E string is .56 gauge and it's detuned to drop A right now. The Les Paul is tuned to C#. And since I don't have a ton of room where I live now, I'm only using a 50 watt Marshall DFX combo amp with on-board digital effects. I usually play through my Boss MT-1 Metal Zone stomp box or my DigiTech Death Metal pedal. And when all the neighbors turn in for the night, I hook up my Sennheiser studio headphones and blow my brains out til the sun comes up.

I've been playing guitar for a while. I've got a Gibson SG Robot guitar thats green with a black pickgaurd. the self-tuning is a nice touch. I've also got a walden acoustic. I've got a peavy 112 amp I think... don't quote me on that but pretty sure. She plays pretty loud. I've also got a metal zone boss foot pedal. BOSE or BOSS? Can't remember, too lazy to check. It's the little black one. I love playing electric and acoustic equally, but I kinda prefer acoustic guitar because you always sound pretty much the same on every one. Unless they're a real piece of junk. Plus they're easy to transport, and you can just pick up and go. Electric I find that people always say "Well that sounds much better with my set-up" and that little mistakes and flaws are less noticed whereas acoustic you can notice everything. Top favorite band to play is Alice in Chains, not because of their guitar but because that's my favorite band of all time. Also love tonnes of other music! A large variety, but not so much into electronic.
