the guitar players megathread

Nice axe Edvard, I tried out some epi les pauls and I found the sound to bassy for my taste ;).

I would recommend a Kustom 12A tube amp. I have one and it has a gorgeous clean tone, is great for blues as well. And handles my distortion pedal really well when I changed out the tube for a tung sol. It's defintely that best practice amp for the price and you can get different tones by swapping out tubes which are dirt cheap.

wow 99bucks it's really a bargain, gibson's 5watters go for 250 and are made at sweat shops, 12 watts is loud enough to get me kicked out of this tiny apartment, fuck if you're playing for 20people or so you can change tubes, to bad it only has a single 12axt, I preefer the versatility of different tube combos, but for practice and with pedals you don't really need them or a 2 channel amp, but anyway I like the old sovtek tubes but use electroharmonix tubes for everything.

Yeah, it's one loud motherfucker, I barely turn it up past 3'oclock. But from the other cheap practice amps I tried out it was by far the best one.

I play bass and a little guitar, and find the bass to be more fun to play.

I play one of these

Squire vintage modified fretless jazz (VMJ)

Its not bad for a cheapo, it actually sounds really good with good strings. The fretless is bad ass too.

You have nice taste in guitars as you do in drugs med cabinet :P I´ve been playing for 12,a slo first instrument i pìcked, well i took piano lessons from 6 to 8, but it wasn´t something I had picked.

As for my stang I won´say exactly how much I payed for it but it was a very good price it even came with its original casing, and I end up paying less than what they asked for since I also bought an old (the real small red ones) Digitech Whammy for $500 and a Tubescreamer I ended up paying less than 3k but more than 2.5k. Didin´t mind and don´t mind, I was working a very high paying job in Iceland at the time and was off drugs (well except rx´s and when i went out of iceland) so I bought loads of guitar stuff thanks to my work in Iceland. some which I sold in Argentina and Sweden and ended up making money and pedals, about the locking tremolo I used to play at my friend´s andy studio a cool Ibanezz gem I bought off him and sold it back to him in a month and I hated te locking tuners and locing tremolo, but it wasn´t for my style.

Anyway I have a good ammount of boss pedals too a DS-1, A PS-3 with Expression Pedal, A DD-6, and some more taht don´t come to mind, I have many mXr´s, a Dunlop Jimmy Hendrix wah, a Morley Bad Horsie Wah, I Also Have 2 new Digitech Whammys I ran thru midi, one is a Whammy one is a Whammy-Wah, and I have loads of shit form my fav maker of pedals, that si elctro-harmonix. Well gotta flñy post more later.

I love your setup Med Cab, I could totally do with that hotrod deville, and I love the ds-1 90s distortion type of sound with a good dose of big muff, as for the Vox Wah it looks great, but never tried it myself and with the jim dunlop jimmy hendrix and morley bad horsie, none of which I desire to sell I´m done with wahs. the Whammy Wah I´m willing to sell.

Oh MC: which type of strat do you have? dig your setup, I dunnno the digitech you have, I guess it´s a multi effect thingie, many are ok, but I´m a pedal whore.

yea man, seems like youve got some sweet axes there. dont see too many old fenders like that anymore.

the strat i have is just a simple american standard, black finish white pickgaurd...nothing too fancy. the digitech rp6 is an older multi effet processor, it has 6 pedals and an expression pedal. its like a dark blue metalic color. its old as hell but i love it, ive always been a fan of digitech/harmon kardon products. good sounds quality and durable.

its cool tho, it has the classic whammy in there along with some nice distortions and modular effects. it all works with the hotrod deville since it has an effects loop and doesnt destory the signal. i bought that amp just for the bluesy sound and that great fender reverb. i love that splashy sound. i work a lot so i dont get to play as much as i used to, but when i do, i have fun.

too bad you dont live in the states, we could shoot dope and jam haha.

Wow. I went to Guitar Center and their tube amps usually start out at $200 - $220. Unfortunately around this area there are little options for other retailers which sell a wide variety of tube amps. I have to give that one some consideration.

I returned my Line 6 because I was getting really pissed off with it. The "clean" sound still sucked, as you get a minor "wah-wah" in the background and everytime you turn it off it resets its four channels to original factory settings which became a pain. Instead, I got a 15 watt Marshall, plus a Digitech multi-effects pedal which sounds much better.

^^
You need a Peavey Classic 30 combo man.

Look it up. Absolutely beautiful "little" tube amp for clean tone, blues drive, .. really anything besides metal. (Get a Peavey XXX if you need that)

Once you try the Classic 30 you will never talk trash about Peavey again. Everywhere I go people can't believe how great my amp sounds.

Downside is you can prob get one for about $500 new. But this is a real 2 channel tube amp and a damn fine one at that. No Fender tube amp comes close to this in tone.... and I'm running a Stratocaster through it lol... Not some "tube amp" that's got 1 or 2 tubes back there.

MAH BRAND NEW AX - Jackson Rhoads pro series \m/ \m/

Took me like an hour to set that floating bridge up just perfect... but holy sheep shit! I can make all the strings totally slack and have them pop right back in tune to a maofuckin T! This is seriously cool beyond rational thought and my fingahs are beat rite now cause ive been playin this soo much. The neck is perfect and the pickups sound more powerful than pretty much anything else ive played, including actives. Yeehaw!

Floating bridges are fun but are a pain in the ass to set them right, and I don´t licke the locking sytem, when they are set-up already and know what you are gonna do they´re cool, otherwise I´d go for another thing but that aside it´s a pretty nice Jackson, and Jackson makes good guitars I always reccomend them, and has 2 seymour duncan humbuckers as far s I can tell. nice.

I just wanted to post that about a couple of months ago I finished my project guitar, it was a Candy Apple Red 1999 Fender Toronado with 2 atomic humbuckers which sucked for such a good shaped and comfortable (though very heavy)guitar, it has 4 knobs for the 2 pickups, it´s like a fender Les Paul more than a fender Jaguar and it´s not a very common model, i always loved the look and flashing airplane light racing strips I made for it and it´s stickered body.

anyway i got at a vintage store under the counter for $750 the bridge mic of an old 50´s les paul and all it´s original wiring, this is a guy I know so I can owe him money and gfet stuff, etc. anyway i have my luthier here in buenos aires, I also bought a gibson P-94 for the neck since I´ve been diging that single coil but fat sound, got the wires the mics the crew and everythng was done, now this fender/Gibson hybrid is THE shit is like having 2 guitars in one, and i love the middle position, the output of the old humbucker it´s not as high so I have to turn the volumes higher for that mic, anyway if I go a little overboard and the humbucker gets distorted, HOLY FUCK!!! it´s an explosion of sound that comes on like a crack rush, I swear I like this guitar more than Andy´s Les Paul deluxe edition i´m pictured with above, there´s something about gibson necks and bodies I never liked, on the other hand i loved fender looks, especially the toronado but the mics sucked and i wanted the Gibson sound, and this was the perfect guitar for it.

I´ll post pictures of my new main bitch tomorrrow when i´ll go rehearsing, you´ll see it´s the shite, well you should play changing mics fast from a sweet lick with the p94 to a fully ditorttion wall attack of 5ths or weird shit fro lower/alternate tunings, it´s awesome, I don´t need my trusty ds-1 I use in all my other fenders no more with the distortion i get playing this axe bridge od gison humbucker. I´ll post the pics tomorrow or at least try to get them uploaded I´found a photo on paper of me playing a 1974 Strat I used to have that I stickered stars alll over it, and it´s of me playing like bback in 99, gonna try to scan it, but this customized toronado which sadly bears my name so I cannot tell you how i named this beatufil thing since it has my name, it´s so awesome the strats, stangs and andys gibsons, prs, strats etc are all picking dust since I started using this axe.

gotta ppost good pics, `promise I wiil, also found a pic of the last band I was with, the hammond organd one of my ex band mates used to have and one of me looking stupid with my moog.....gotta upload, need aother pc, fuck i have a portable 160gb wireless hard disk and always forget the small things that matter....my fault for being greedy on the megabytes.

oh and medicine cabinet I´d shoot dope and jam with you anyday! I´ll see when I go back to north of the equator...so far everything is cool here, except i´m the only member of my band....

oh I´ll also have to mention my electro-acoustic guitar, dunno where t is, but when I´ll find it I´ll shoot the fuck out of it (with the camera)......./drone

Guitarists, whats your favorite gear

Any guitarist out there wanna show their equipment? Or you're obsessed with some piece of guitar equipment? If so it would be great to post pictures and say something about the gear... like what kinda sound they make, what kinda sound you love to do... stuff like that...

here's mine acoustic D 10SB Washburn (I used to have electric hohner - fender copy, but i sold it):

d10sb.jpg

I like the sound off it and its quality but cheap.

I'm hoping someday I'll buy myself some Gibson.

we already had gear threads,
and since those thread dont get much traffic it should include any music gear...(including headphones, speakers, dap...) imo

Didn't knew there was a thread already. Yes, I agree, it should include any music gear (but i though focusing on the guitar gear since it non-electronic music discussion), and I can't rename the thread now, so... let it be :D

here's my dream amp btw:

Soldano amps are hot

Im a pretty serious amp nut

Current I have been just going nuts over my DrZ 18w head

I have got a few Blackface fenders (Champ, Super Reverb) too that I A/B with it

Okay my current set up includes a Paul Reed Smith (I work for them so of course i own a few) lol Custom 24 with a set of custom wound Dragon II pickups stop tail bridge and advanced tone controls ( 3 vs 2 , one for each pickup and a blend)... Its solid mahogany Neck through Purple in color with a flamed maple top.... Amplification is a Beringer 2x12 Vtone with DSP for solid state practice amp at 60 watts stereo.. and for playing out i have a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier head that runs through 1 4x12 and 2 2x 10 monitors * I gotta hear what im playing come on now!* effects god if i sat here and typed a list of effects id be typing for a month.... Acoustic is a Ibanez AEF30 in Blue with flamed top and Fishman aeq... no acoustic amp i just run through the pa head fuck it..... other guitars that i really dont play include another PRS (back up guitar its got a tremolo i hate guitars that dont have stop tail bridges dont ask me why) A 72' Gibson les paul which is a baby it doesnt get played often and when it does it gets wiped down and put back in the case.... then theres the odd fender in my collection hey i gotta have something that has single coils.... or maybe its time to put in a coil tap lmao..

There are only two pieces of equipment I feel strongly about.
1. Fender amps.
2. Dunlop guitar picks. Only nylon. I will not use a plastic pick under any circumstances.

Dr. No, I'm pretty sure one of the guitarists in my band uses that amp. It sounds pretty sweet.
