[MEGA] The green dragon thread- alcohol extracts and tinctures

Ahhhhhh, a stem keeper like myself.. Well ive done the everclear (i use Spiritus - 95%) and i prefer cooking. Well not cooking, but tea - chai tea!

Chop stems, sprinkle a little bud, add to 500ml boiling water with a teaspoon of butter. Simmer for an hour, add milk/chai tea mix. simmer for another 15-20. Bobs ur uncle! Dont let the water level get down too low, dont let it boil too hot.

Yup I might start saving some stuff to do this. Sounds awesome.

In GA its legal and we use it for our hunch punch :D

On another note its really cheap, we used to take shots of it when it was left around. I had a bad experience where I didnt chase my last few shots of golden grain and woke up the next morning with a :! sore throat that lasted a good 3 days.

They talk about making illegal here. I've drank the stuff a few times. I'm about 100pds and never really drink so every time it has fucked my world up something aweful. It is REALLY good to make hot apple pie ( http://www.drinksmixer.com/drink11164.html) The longer you leave it sit the better it is, to the point where you can't even taste the everclear and that can be quite dangerous.

My green dragon recipe

Making Green Dragon
Wanting to imbibe a bit of green dragon and enjoy the unique pharmacological effects? Want no more, just make your own. With 5 grams herb you can make about 5 servings.

Equipment.
cooking pot
stainless steel cup
tongs
small glass jar with lid (for washing herb)
5 fl.oz. glass sauce bottle (for storing finished product)
coffee filters
small fine-mesh kitchen strainer
coffee cup
small fine-screened funnel
oven thermometer

Ingredients.
5 grams dry and finely ground herb
5 oz. Barcardi 151, plus additional rum to replace that boiled away
Use the strongest alcohol available to you.

Carboxylate (convert more actives).
Using an oven thermometer, preheat toaster oven and tray to 250 F.
Spread the ground herb on aluminum foil and heat 10 min. at 250 F.
Watch your thermometer and manually turn on the toaster oven for 45 seconds at a time when needed. Do not trust the built-in heat control. Do not exceed 250 F.

Remove water soluble non-actives (swampwater taste).
Soak herb in cold water for a few days.
The actives are not water soluble but if the water is warm the active oils could liquify and separate from the herb. At this point we only want to remove some inactive compounds to reduce the unpleasant taste.
Place a small kitchen strainer over a coffee cup.
Put a coffee filter in the strainer to hold it.
Strain wet herb through the coffee filter and rinse with clean water.
Discard water.

Extract actives into alcohol solution.
Put washed herb and 151 rum into a stainless steel cup.
Keep alcohol away from open flame.
Put a couple of inches water in a cooking pot.
Not too much water or the cup will float.
Put a bent wire grid under the cup to keep it off the hot pot bottom.
Boil the rum herb mix and use tongs to hold the cup and swirl.
Observe boiling liquid and boil away half of it.
Add more 151 rum and boil away half the liquid again.
Remove from heat.
So the idea is to heat the alcohol/herb mix for about 30 minutes at 170 F while adding more alcohol as needed so it doesn’t dry out and so the cup doesn’t float and tip over.

Remove depleted herb.
The cup is hot. Handle it with tongs.
Use a coffee filter to strain hot wet herb. Place a small kitchen strainer over a coffee cup. Put the coffee filter in the strainer to hold it.
Strain and rinse out concentrated liquid with more 151 rum.
Don’t use too much rum for rinsing or it won’t fit into your 5 ounce bottle and your final strength ratio will be off.
Save alcohol solution.

Dilute to your preference.
Add more alcohol so the finished product is back to the original ratio of 1 fl.oz. liquid per 1 gram herb. You might like to try a daily serving of 1 fl.oz. (extraction from 1 gram herb). Stir it into your morning coffee with a spoonful of Kahlua and a little butter. No need to add it to boiling coffee, let it cool a bit to a drinkable temperature before adding your green dragon.

Enjoy.
Have green dragon daily or every other day. It's slow-acting so consider waiting until the next day before taking a larger amount. Significant amounts of the actives remain in your system for a few days. The effects will compound somewhat when you use it often and the effects are especially enhanced when you smoke herb along with it.

Optional use for depleted herb.
Spread on a plate and let it dry.
If someone is in the habit of mooching off you, give them some of your depleted herb and they won't bother you anymore. There are still some actives in it, but it's not good to smoke. Only a desperate person would endure bad taste for just mild effects. Maybe the used herb is best scattered to the wind.

GD Coffee
1 cup coffee
1 fl oz green dragon (from 1 gram herb and 1 fl oz Bacardi 151)
1 spoon Kahlua
1/2 pat butter (well stirred)

awesome post. how heavy are the effects of 1 fl. oz compared to say smoking a gram of herb?

I'm retired, so one of my goals at this point in life is to stay high all the time. I keep on smoking when having green dragon. So it's hard to compare because I do both at the same time. Both methods of consumption, burning and eating, compliment each other.

Over the past few weeks I've been gradually increasing from a few eyedroppers, to teaspoons, then to half ounce, and now I'm trying a full ounce. (I'm not a kid anymore so I tend toward caution.) But an ounce is fine and nowhere close to being overwhelming. Two ounces would be interesting. Time to make another batch.

I've been using a consistent ratio of 1 fl oz liquid per 1 gram herb. I drank a half ounce two days ago, one ounce yesterday morning and one more ounce this morning (and another ounce or two tomorrow). I delayed my unsual sunrise first bowl of smoke until after my coffee (and two fried eggs). It feels nice that way, having my green dragon with coffee while still feeling a buzz from yesterday. Then having a smoke kickstarts my high and it's pretty good. I like it. The previous day's high adds to next day's high so it keeps getting better each day. Good thing I don't have to take a piss test for some crappy job. I must be pretty saturated. By the way, I don't drive anymore either. I'm trying to keep life simple.

It may sound strange, but I put a little butter in my coffee this morning. It rounds out the flavor and together with Kahlua it tastes pretty good. Also, fat will grab onto some of the actives and help your body absorb it faster. Really. A few times, hours after drinking GD I ate some crackers with butter and my high always increased.

1 cup coffee
1 fl oz green dragon (from 1 gram herb and 1 fl oz Bacardi 151)
1 spoon Kahlua
1/2 pat butter (well stirred)

*Be sure to wash your herb. It's nasty otherwise.

I'd sub the 151 for everclear if possible. The 151 is 75% alcohol and the everclear is 95%, greater yield over a shorter period of time. Also increases potency by dosage, as you can use less everclear.

Otherwise, great guide!

^ Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any Everclear. Bacardi 151 is hard to find also. (151 is also good for cleaning your pipe and washing tar off your fingers.)

I'm still experimenting with making GD so likely I will adjust my recipe each time I make some.

A full shot glass is 1.5 fl oz. One shot is a nice daily dose. That was my last dose this morning. I'm out so it's time to make more GD. I have 10 grams soaking in water in the refridgerator for my next batch. I worked outside in the yard today for 3 hours. Herb gets me off my butt.

So my current recommendation is for the finished liquid to contain 1 fl oz rum per extract from 1 gram herb. Make your dose one full shot, 1.5 fl oz. Tastes great in coffee with Kahlua and butter. Use daily. If you don't smoke herb along with GD, maybe you should double your dose?

1 cup coffee
1.5 fl oz green dragon (from 1.5 gram herb and 1.5 fl oz Bacardi 151)
1 spoon Kahlua
1/2 pat butter (well stirred)

Anyone remember 'Hi-Brew'?

Years ago I scored a small soft-cover book with recipes for brewing 10 different cannabis-infused beers ranging from a few % alcohol up to one called The Potted Porter which was around 10% from memory. Also included was several pages of pre-gummed labels reading - "Hi-Brew... the one beer you have when you're only having one", or words to that effect.
A mate and I brewed 20 litres up using clip from manicured bush-pig buds introduced during the secondary ferment stage, then bottled it off in 26oz king-browns. All I can say is necking a couple of these can be a real party-stopper.
*Try leaving a few (without labels) unattended in the fridge next party for the mongels who rock up empty-handed and drink everyone else's booze. Yes, I know its irresponsible and juvenile, but it sure does modify their behaviour =D* (Mods - remove pls this para if its not appropriate).
Has anyone else tried or batched weed-infused liquor?

This sounds fascinating
I brew my own beer quite regularly, and I guess doing this, in small but noticeable quantities would make for a very fun night on the booze
Apparently hemp is very closely related to hops, biologically speaking

very closely related eh? could you brew with cannabis of a particular fragrance to say, have grape ape ale? (which would have a taste or smell similar to the cannibis flowers?)

No I want to try some! I'm waiting though when I accumulate enough shake, stems, etc for some green dragon...I think It would be awesome walking around a party just sipping on some laced THC alcoholic beverages, cause when ever I try to smoke weed at a party, everyone want s in on a session! (and usually they don't match)

I love a wide variety of good beer, but I cannot believe that the taste of weed in beer would be pleasant.

It would probably just be best to stick to using everclear or vodka to extract the THC instead of beer IMO.

Why would you want to get the jerks high?

If you were going to leave boobytrapped beer, you put something in their beer that they wouldn't want (most mooches would gladly smoke your weed in addition to drinking your beer)

^ Think of it as an ambush of sorts. They never saw it coming and let me say, if you're not in the right frame of mind it will sit you on your arse with a stunned-mullet look on your face. Our Hi-Brew was around 6.5%; a fairly strong drop we learned to take fairly slowly. If you don't know what it is and chug-a-lug away, well... :) In our case, the theatre was worth the investment.
@wiggy - our Hi-Brew was a bitter beer recipe and the taste difference between it and our straight control batches wasn't all that marked. Might be different with pilseners or ales, but I'm only guessing here.
I did once try infusing a bottle of Stoly Cristall with a fat green (wet) bud and another bottle with a manicured dried bud. They steeped for 3 months in the cupboard and the former had turned a lovely green colour as the spirit leached out the bud's chlorophyll. The dried bud was still intact and had turned the liquor a light rusty colour. Certainly was a conversation starter just looking at them. Effects and taste...? Well, I don't honestly remember much... more stunned by the alcohol than stoned I reckon. We (6 blokes) drained both bottles doing shooters and no-one at the table had a bad word to say about the experience.

yea i was at a party one christmas and some dude rocked up with a bottle of bourbon he had chucked a quarter into like 4 months before. tasted like death, definitely got us real drunk.

not too sure on the high part. i was pretty damn sure it was working real good, but i was smokin all day too so coulda been placebo/just getting drunk.

Yeah Cannabis and Hops are in the same family - you can graft Cannabis plants to hops plants to take advantage of the root system, though I hear it's pretty pointless.

Sound intriguing, I may try some time.
