The Big & Dandy Brain Zaps / Brain Shivers Thread

Apparently these shocks vary greatly in people.

What I might be describing as zaps or shocks, might be different than those comeing off of an SSRI.

I have never had an ssri, and have always had these shocks throughout my life, they are not painful at all. More exhilarating than anything.
 
Perhaps you would do well to describe them then, because brain zaps as they are commonly known are usually quite uncomfortable.
 
I would hear something of an electrical discharge, I would feel a surge of excitement, and have a muscle twitch. No pain or discomfort, it has come on strong with DMT, has come after MDMA for a few days. But never seemed like a bad thing. I've had these even as a kid as far as I can remember, and then I wasn't on anything whatsoever.

Taking MDMA multiple days is so dumb, I laugh in the face of people who do this and still say they care about their health.

MDMA should be kept to once a month, and if you really appreciate the experience once every 6 months to a year.
 
Considering that these "brain zaps" are well established to occur in situations where serotonin levels are drastically changing (ie after discontinuation of SSRIs and abuse of MDMA) it's far more reasonable to believe this is a serotonin-related effect that your DMT experiences may trigger.
 
I think the only time your "brain zaps" are DMT related, Kazerd...is on your DMT trips.
It is not proven at all, and is in fact only an evidence lacking theory that DMT is responsible for dreams. I believe that DMT has only ever been found in the body in trace amounts anyway.
 
had brain zaps after WD from hydro. they are not fun man.... its like a moment of hyper sensitivity or energy.

I don't think DMT has anything to do with dreaming. Dreams arn't anything like DMT visuals.

well apparently there are some theories out there that state that the pineal gland excretes minute amounts of DMT right as you are falling asleep, but there is no real science to prove this yet.

And a theories a theory, and some theories have some backing...and then others seem like they just came kinda out of nowhere like the DMT ones.

I have experienced this exact thing after using MDMA like 3 times in a week, for me it was extremely fast though, like it would happen, resulting in a tiny twitch somewhere and it was over before i even knew wtf just happened. It wasn't until it happened a couple times that day before i knew what it was, because ive read about them before.

Like you said though i would basically feel an extremely fast-lived rush of exhilaration, and a little "SNAP" like shocking noise, and twitch.

and fo' the record i also agree that MDMA should be used very rarely, its somewhat surprising to me that after doing it last summer quit a bit, i now have no urge to use it at all.
 
Once when I first started smoking weed I fell asleep while incredibly high and had a very bizarre dream. At on point in the dream I heard a high pitched squeal that became increasingly louder until it became physically painful and then I came shockingly back into wakefulness. Same kind of tinnitus like ringing you get from air pressure changes in your ears or tinnitus except it was like, at the end, a jet taking off. I've had brain zaps from Venlafaxine.

The link between DMT and visual dreams is not concrete, not even in the slightest. There are so many factors and they are all interwoven into a huge comprehensive system. Actually applying science to brain chemistry is a huge chore. I once heard the analogy that using radiologically active isotopes is like trying to see what the dark looks like with a flash light. You fundamentally change the environment when you add something new or something different. That "something new or something different" allows you to see what is there, but also has changed what is there. So all guesses of what it is like without that artificially present element are still just guesses. But that is all this thread is: guesses. Unless you're really delving into physical processes and supporting or questioning your <i><u>hypothesis</u></i> with data you have no evidence for this "theory". I can't quite come up with a reason why this thread has any reason to exist.
 
I get them from benzos or ambien for some odd reason. Not from w/d cuz I'm no where near that stage yet, but just when I take them on the same or next day I get them. So odd.

Agreed, I was on lexapro and celexa for a while and everytime I attempted to ween myself off I got brain zaps, very uncomfortable and disconcerting. I imagine Kazerd is experiencing something different from what most people refer to as "brain zaps." And very little is known about DMT's function in the brain. It doesn't appear to be present in large amounts, and I've never read anything convincing linking it to dream activity, though its certainly not outside the realm of possibility.

This sounds like it could possibly be a petit mal seizure, or another medical condition. Don't think that's supposed to happen normally, might wanna get that checked out.
