What do your parents think of your music?

when it's rap my mom goes "why do you have to listen to that fucking jungle music"

when it's floyd she says "how can anyone listen to that sober?"

when it's other classic rock like zepplin or hendrix she doesn't say a word she likes it too.

^ hehe, yea, I got a few laughs out of the thread. It's an Australian forum, so the Pendu-hate is particularly strong.
 
I don't think my father likes my taste in quite a few things, house music and rock mainly. He does however like all the old stuff that i listen to, like Cat stevens, genesis, thin lizzy, sex pistols, fleetwood mac, there is alot more lol i think he likes them because he brought me up on them and now i listen to them more than him.
 
My dad, hates everything I listen too. If it isn't Frank Sinatra or Billy Joel it's shit. My mom on the other hand, actually realyl digs Jay-Z, ha go figure.
 
My parents seem to prefer four on the floor techno, to gay house and breaks of any kind.

I think Drum and Bass scares them.
 
I have always been into techno to some degree since I was a little kid, but for awhile when I was a younger teenager, I had a pretty serious metal thing going on, so my parents are just glad that I stopped making them listen to At the Gates with them in the car.

Though my Dad can stand it, he doesnt particularly like it.

I listen to mainstream rock and classic rock. My dad actually listens to the same stuff I do sometimes. My mom really isn't a fan and is put off by the swear words I'm sure. They both tend to be more into country, perhaps partly because our local radio station is country.
 
Idk I put on rap/hip-hop when I'm getting a ride to a meeting or something with my mom and shes like WTF how can you listen to this crap.. Sometimes we can settle on classic rock.. my parents both like that..

They like country too, I can listen to some country, but mostly sappy love songs, the modern stuff not older country, but I'd never listen to it with them around, only like when macking it to a girl or something..
 
When I was like 15 I liked the music my dad likes, because the only new music he listens to is shit like 3 Doors Down, Theory of a Deadman, etc. and I was all about it in my teen angst phase but now that I've grown out of that and have gotten really into electronic music we don't have any music in common. For years the only thing he has said is "How do you think that shit is MUSIC?!"

My friend's parents went online to look up pictures of this mysterious thing called a psytrance festival, and concluded that it looks like "a place where people go to be on acid." When we went from NC to the mountains of CA for a party, they accused us of going there just to do a bunch of drugs. If I just wanted to do drugs I would stay home, not travel cross-country and spend hundreds of dollars getting to this party. But yes, I did eat acid one night. :D

hahah I can relate to that. It's tough sharing electronic music. I usually can't get into it because it makes me so self conscious.

My parents don't really like my music and generally mock it. They just don't get it. One time I was listening to Nalin & Kane's "Beachball" and asked my pops "see, isn't this relaxing?" to which he replied "No, not really. It makes me want to hit someone" 8o lol. I do remember one time though we were making a late night drive a couple hundred miles and my dad listened to a hardcore tape front to back. Twice. another 8o. lol.
I have a little girl I plan on raising on electronic music. My wife doesn't really get into music so I have no competition. :D

lol, this sounds exactly like my parents about me going to burning man. except I actually did get twisted there every single night, and fully intend to again this year.

who doesn't get into music? music is all i think about. i can understand not having the same dedication to it (I think it pisses my gf off sometimes, even though we have very similar taste), but not getting into music at all? man.
 
I don't know. I really don't. I mean she has some things that she likes to listen to once in a while but she could seriously live without it.

I would die.
 
wow. I can't even imagine what my life would be like without music. it would be completely different, that's for sure. actually, I would probably be a lot more successful (in the conventional sense of the word) out of sheer boredom and lack of drug use.
 
My dad's the reason I like electronic music. Unfortunately he's not around anymore, I reckon he would dig some types of psytrance+techno around these days. Mum likes it when I player older rock/blues, she doesn't really like metal or any form of dance music. She doesn't mind down to earth dub and psyambient stuff.
 
my parents like pretty much whatever I play (since I'm primarily an oldies guy) but like other stuff I play too, its sweet because they get pissed at my sister for listening to "teenage angst" music and other stuff that drives everybody off the wall (well my dad to a lesser extent because he's an aging hipster who still wants to be cool)
