What do your parents think of your music?

Turn it down! My mum claims that hardcore makes her feel "nervous" but both mum and dad think that hip-hop sucks and it takes no talent to sample, ha..
 
My dad used to play me Jean Michel Jarre and Kraftwerk to me when I was a baby to make me stop crying. Probably explains why I ended up loving Electro and Ambient and Trance.. hehe!

My mum loves 90s dance and some trance (as long as it has vocals) and my Dad likes house and trance and some chill out stuff. But dad hates techno and drum and bass he calls it "pots and pans music". I remember listening to a Cristian Varela set once which is really tribal banging techno, he said "what is going on in there, it sounds like you're having sex with an african tribe" hahha.

My mom likes everything, i listen to pretty much.

Unfortunatly, all her like favorite FAVORITE stuff is metal.
yes i have a metal head, pot smoking mom.

Sometimes when shes really baked and i put on some shpongle or something like that.
It completely blows her mind, and she'll like close her eyes and say things like
"this music feels like acid"

or

"this shit gives me closed eye visuals, i wanna listen to this while falling asleep"

lol shes a funny lady.

anyways,...um yeah thats my story and im sticking to it.


She really hates Venetian Snares, and Aphex Twin, and well pretty much any "broken machine noise" she calls it.

But she loves All the Shpongle, Infected Mushroom, Orb, Entheogenic, OTT, stuff i can give her.

Her personal Favorites are Lamb of God, Slipknot, Amon Amarth, Faith No More, The Melvins.
And More!
 
Dad's pretty open-minded. I've gotten him into Venetian Snares, Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, NIN, etc. Mars Volta too, oddly enough.

They hate stuff with screaming though, and they find dance music too repetitious (hell...so do I).

I think they're generally approving of my quirky music tastes. My mother likes to point out how varying it is. My father gets off when I listen to stuff he's heard before :)
 
My father has passed but when he was alive he actually liked EDM. Other than that I listen to "regular" music so my mom likes my music. I mostly listen to (classic)rock.
 
Its a one way street with my parents and music.

I can listen to their John Denver, Patsy Clien bs but they will not even give my music a chance...

and to make them even more annoying... whenever i am humming or singing a song i know.. they always start singing a song they know too... while I'm still singing... like they are trying to compete with me...

Like THIS MORNING FOR EXAMPLE:

(me) "Youre my angel, youre the only SuNShi-"
(mom) "Just call me angel, in the morning, angel. Just Touch my cheek..."
(me) :|

Its like they hear a tid bit of a lyric... and JUST HAS to start singing whatever song comes to mind...

My parents don't exactly dig everything I play them, but I've got to give them credit for being open-minded, and curious! I was showing my mom some neurofunk (like crazy, super-extravagantly-produced DnB) the other day, and she was actually grooving, a little bit!
