What do your parents think of your music?

Mine just kind of don't understand why I would pay money to watch a DJ instead of a full string band for example. They also don't like the whole connotation of it with the bright lights and the drugs. Drugs are often associated with electronic music but the people that always need to take drugs at shows will eventually fade, leaving the true fans in the end... then a bunch of other druggies will invade the scene. It's a vicious circle.

My parents just don't get it. They don't really it's music I guess, but at the same time they don't have a problem with it because I am so immersed in the scene and I wouldn't be if it was lame. They were young once too.

I think they consider house music as the 2000's answer to disco and they had crazy clubs back in they day like Studio 54 so they know what the deal is.

I put on a mix from a local DJ and my dad told me it was "too stimulating". LOL.

they're down...
most of the time

but they would usually like the more 'left-field' stuff if anything, not straight beats etc. Dub-House or two-step type house with that funk feel was permissible and welcomed...
although, i have know idea how many times i heard Bitches-Brew or 'Sly & the Family' - the like, through and through growing up.
seems kind of silly not to think you could not find a song you love, that happens to of been produced with electronic equipment, or is any one of the many electronica genres.

Her personal Favorites are Lamb of God, Slipknot, Amon Amarth, Faith No More, The Melvins.
And More!
Your mom sounds hardcore.

My dad is learning to appreciate techno. He was a band director and is a composer of some avante garde and classical so draws similarities between those styles and electronic music's builds, small variations, sound design, emotion, and rhythm. I've had him listen to Bill Youngman, Sasha, Stephan Bodzin. Max Cooper, and Dominik Eulburg and he seems to see the artistic merit. He really likes when electronic artists collaborate with orchestras ala Jeff Mills or The Flashbulb.

He used his record collection to turn me onto a lot of stuff like Sly, Earth/Wind/Fire, Don Ellis, Jethro Tull, Moody Blues, Yes/Rick Wakeman, King Crimson, musique concrete, and especially Frank Zappa when I was younger. Now I turn him onto stuff too.

My mom likes a lot of Gospel, contemporary christian, calypso, bluegrass, zydeco, and klezmer so she's pretty open to anything. She's really liked a lot of the soulful Frankie Knuckles stuff and downtempo I've shared with her but doesn't really like techno, industrial, psytrance, or mimimal. I also used to listen to a lot of punk, hardcore, and ska and she loves two-tone and third-wave ska.

My wife hates electronic music and says it's too repetitive and doesn't go anywhere but at least she has good taste in reggae and hip hop. She also doesn't dance.

My daughter is 5 and loves beats. She beatboxes along with hip hop, dubstep, and techno. She loves playing with drum machines and triggering samples from the APC while telling me "Dad, I'm mixing. Check me out!" She plays my drums all the time. She dances, loves fire-spinners/poi, and just started hooping. She is awesome.

What do your parents think of your m

Me and my 1 friend LOVE Pete Wentz Were obbsesed or just me but what do u think about this emo hottie?

My parents only disapprove of rap music because of their beliefs.

It's a good thing that Justice, pendulum, deadmau-five, aphex twin, skrillex, felguk are all of my favorite producers :)

They don't listen to it, but they don't even care about it. In fact they're relatively unaware of the drug scene behind EDM. But I've listened to edm my whole life.

they hate it! My dad thinks dance music is for people whos brains are so damaged by drugs they can only remember 3 notes - shows what he thinks of his son!

"headbanging music"

Might give the impression that I'm into DnB, Dubstep, Industrial or something like that.

But that's what she calls Trance.
