Good tasting alcohol? Impossible?

I have tried many types of alcohol. Good, bad, whatever. I cannot find any kind of alcohol that tastes good. I think people are kidding themselves.

I have bought expensive scotch, beer, wine, champagne... it all tastes horrible.

Is it that people really like the high and are fooling themselves? Are there any kinds of alcohol that really taste good?

to each his own, dude.

OP: Perhaps you need to "stop and smell the roses" as they say.

There is a whole culture of Wine Tasting and it is there for a reason. People tend to think it is just an outdated form of aristocracy, but in fact it remains a part of modern culinary training.

My point is this: Due to the complex process of wine fermentation, countless different chemicals are produced in unlimited variety. Each and every one of those leaves its own aroma and flavour.

If you think that "all wine tastes bad", then you obviously never tried it, since there is almost infinite variety in wine flavours.

And I'm only speaking of wine. I didn't get into beer or spirits.

For the record, I personally generally drink for the taste. I LOVE the taste of White Wine, and therefore feel the need to drink a glass or two (but rarely ever more) every day if I can.

My favourite wines include Chilean Chardonnay and Italian Suvignon Blanc.

An underrated Scottish ale worthy of mention is Tennet's.

Is this trolling once again?

Bad tasting alcohol?

Perhaps you've never been a stone cold whiskey freak, but I have.

And Jammy is very right with the wine thing, but I digress.....

Fine Whiskey/Scotch/misc, as per Me:
(Top 5)
1) Wild Turkey (hands down the best, ice first but straight, just a glass)
2) Dewar's Scotch, an old but expensive favorite.
3) Jameson: A little Irish in us all? Fantastic smooth taste, like the dewars.
4) A three wiseman is an awesome shot, if that's your fancy (jack, jameson, and johnny walker)
5)Absinthe. Cheque preferably but either way, good green.

What do you think Jam?

Beer's is a whole nother' issue entirely.

Warsteiner is fine and German and FUCKING GRAND!
Guiness is the staple, my favorite.
St. Paulie Girl, another robust dark lager.
Yuengling - being a pennsylvanian (not by birth or choice), it's a good beer.

Last but certainly not the least (adverse, in fact), Flying Dog. It's Hunter Thompson's own beer he helped create and own. Steadman does a fantastic label...

moonshine is a very strong liquor, but typically does not carry a strong alcohol taste. it is very easy to black out on because it is hard to tell how strong it is. This is probably what you are looking for. the kind i had most recently tasted like apple cider with a small hint of alcohol, less than in beer, but it was really like drinking straight 35% liquor. it's mostly found only in the south though, you kind of have to know where to get it

Alcohol is an acquired taste, and generally the human taste bud must have something around 10 times before it becomes a pleasant taste. Let's not turn this into a dick-sizing contest, but let's just say I can drink my fair share. I love whiskey, and don't drink any other liquor. Beer is another story. Basically, I love alcohol. I'd rank it in my top 5 to say the least.

P.S. - I'm drunk.

P.P.S. - I read through the thread, and anything that's under 40% alcohol by volume is considered a liquor.

others have mentioned mixed drinks. you can definately get a mixed drink that you would like as well. its just a matter of trial and error. awhile back, a friend of mine made some concoction of a bottle of 151 proof everclear, a case of beer, and a shit ton of pink lemonade in a big ass cooler. a child couldve drank it and thought it was just pink koolaid.

i believe that beverage is called a pink panty pull down. judging by the taste and the contents you can imagine why.

Im from canada and the stuff was very easy for us to get when i was growing up. I always knew a few people who made it and sometimes you would even ending up getting a bottle for free. Some of it is pretty nasty but it can taste pretty decent when made right. I like rum moonshine the best. It's certainly not for sipping though and it's a very quick way to a blackout.

love a few pints of guiness maybe a couple bottles of red wine.

As for spirits a good malt whiskey with a drop of water added to sip!

i dont like the effects or taste of alcohol. the high makes me feel tired and stupid.

it depends on how u drink it as well. back in highschool i used to have to be home at a certain time, so i would just decide to get completely fucked up at wherever we were hanging out at around 7 or 8 pm. THe goal was to get as much in me in the shortest amount of time so that i could get drunk and "sober" up enough so that my parents couldnt tell i was drunk. I would sit in my car and chug about 8-9 natural ice beers in 30 mins(not natty light, which has far less alc content). Eventually i learned to love the taste of it, and it gives an insane rush in your brain that feels awesome. Now that i'm in college, i noticed that i dont get that awesome feeling as much cuz i dont have to go home to my parents so i'm not drinking a shit load in a small time frame (usually, that is).

so what i recommend is trying taking in a good amount in a short period of time and see if that makes your high feel better.

liquor works really well too. I used to buy a 1.75L of either Popov or Skoal vodka for like $10, and i would just take shots of that (burns pretty bad) and then chase it with orange juice. When you mix drinks it takes too long to get it down cuz u end up sipping it. if u can afford expensive stuff tho, Dewar's Whiskey is pretty good. And there's some really good vodka that i could just chug due to how much better it tasted than Popov vodka lol.

I am entirely kiddin' my'delf.
If it didn't contain alcohol
I wouldn't drink it.

People don't snort washin' powder (much),
or shoot up water (much)
either.

However,
once you wire it into the pleasure centre...
...man, it can taste like heaven.

C'mon,
really,
Non-alcoholic beer
&
wine
taste like shit.

But sit back with a case
&
a friend,
&
chew the fat...
That taste is fo' real.

i know the feeling of "liking the burn" but i don't consider that equivalent to liking the taste. i mean, it's more like, liking the burn in my lungs when i used to take huge hits of weed. it's probably part association with it fucking you up, partly the sick enjoyment of destroying yourself, part the other flavoring agents in the drink besides ethanol and part the warm feeling ethanol can provide as it enters the throat.

in case you haven't noticed, none of these things have to do with the actual taste of alcohol. i am still of the opinion that if alcohol was not psychoactive, it would NEVER have gained popularity as a flavoring agent. it does not taste good.

I despise the taste of alcohol. I will only drink it for effect. I have never drank it for the taste. I have had some nasty hangovers in my lifetime and my share of alchohol, but if you told me today that I could never have a sip of alcohol again, I wouln't even flinch. The last sip of booze I had was at my 20th HS reunion in Aug 2007. I also have never ordered an adult beverage while dining out ever. So I have never had a glass of wine, etc with food.

I just find the taste of all of it not appealing. I find whiskeys, Scotch, and tequilas the most repulsive! I am thankful as I have a relative who is a major alchoholic. I just can't imagine comsuming the amount he does.
