Biscuits and gravy is a solid choice.

Thought I'd share some practice with my new delay pedal, I recorded it with the microphones and it sounds way better than with direct in.

:)

Delay pedal is so fucking fun and cool. Playing with yourself from half a second before.

Once you get experienced with a delay pedal, you can do some really cool syncopation. Most people playing delay have the repeat fall on their down beats... I.e. the repeat comes an eighth or a quarter note after. The next step up is having the delay come on the second upbeat, i.e. a dotted eighth or dotted quarter note later. One night on 2C-P I figured out how to have the delay come on the third or fourth upbeat.

I only took formal music training for a couple years, so excuse me if that description is a little hard to understand. Here are examples, tho:

Track with the delay set for the third upbeat: http://escapegoat.bandcamp.com/track/pulse-working-title

Track with the delay set for the fourth upbeat:. Http://escapegoat.bandcamp.com/track/reasonably-insane

Both those tracks are a single guitar through a cheapo Behringer delay I forget the delay length in seconds for the first track, but the second one I always just crank the delay up to the pedal's max of 1.3 seconds.

I have literally never heard another musician use a delay pedal to create rhythms like that, but I would love to some day.

Edit -- wow the intro to that first track sounds bad to my ears now heh. I recorded that 7 years ago, I play it pretty differently now.

Nice man, thanks for sharing, it's good to hear some other PDers sharing their music. :) I really like those, especially the second one.

To anyone who has dealt with phenibut or pregabalin withdrawal or something similar... I feel pretty normal except it's still hard to sleep and my social skills are down, which isn't an issue with my friends/girlfriend, but her mom is visiting and today/tomorrow we're going camping together. I'm kinda nervous about it and I've felt really kind of anxious around her so far. What I'm wondering is, if I took a small dose of phenibut today, do you think that would set me back significantly? What I don't want is for it to reset this thing... it's been 12 days since I took any phenibut, and it hasn't been bad at all really, but I definitely am feeling better than I was for the first week.

I don't know anything about phenibut, but it is clear as day that you are looking for a justification to use... No offense, but I guess since you kicked an opioid habit, you most probably know this as well.

I have a few more days until I am off to denmark! Meeting up with the girl I am seeing for a little less than two weeks of a bicycle tour. :)

I think you'll get back to day 1 though in a slight manner. My experience is with pregabalin. Got a worse than expected withdrawal after 2 months of quite consistent use. Every other day or a bit less.
Then 2 weeks after I thought I was free to go and indulged in it 2 days in a row. Withdrawal was back though it was weaker, same story 5 days ago. I feel normal today but it has some difficult to notice and blame for it effect on mood for quite a while. Insomnia is my old friend but it gets worse.
Phenibut or benzos are of great help, even opium in pregabalin case. So if you access to pregabalin or gabapentin or even a benzo I would do that instead of Phenibut, alcohol is another possibility.

Yeah, it would just make my time so much better and easier for this camping trip. Well, it wouldn't be the best choice, would it? I'm not gonna go with a psychedelic either, her mom isn't so much the psychedelic type. I mean she seems cool but I wouldn't want her to think I'm on anything, and I think being on something psychedelic, even a little bit, would probably increase my anxiety about it.

I realize now I've relied on phenibut to help me through social things that I felt nervous about for a fucking long time. This scenario is the only reason I'm considering it, I've been having trouble sleeping and I haven't considered using it for that, nor when I get hit with the random bouts of anxiety. I want to make a good impression on her mom, not be quiet and kind of anxious the whole time like I was last night when I went over there and met her. Ugh, bad timing...

I have to go so just a short one.I think you'll get back to day 1 though in a slight manner. My experience is with pregabalin. Got a worst than expected withdrawal after 2 months of quite consistent use. Every other

Alcohol is another thing I've been doing too much, definitely trying to cut back so I'm not going to do that for the camping trip. I do have some etizolam, which I have taken sparingly (not even to help me sleep usually). I could bring that and use it if needed I suppose.

EDIT: I actually found 20mg of baclofen I didn't realize I still had, which is good because I had it for the purpose of tapering phenibut since they're both GABA-B agonists. Phenibut also does other stuff so it's not perfect but it takes the edge off. Cool. :) I might actually microdose LSD too.

Just take some theanine or something like that (well it is slightly one of a kind).. the benzo maybe to keep on hand for emergencies rather than discomfort or already subconsciously having decided you will do that anyway.. knowing that you have something for emergencies is actually in disguise a completely different trick more akin to CBT to reduce anxiety and depression or fear by bringing your biggests worries (what's the worst that could happen) out into the light. It tends to help to let go of worrying that it might be bad: we suffer more in our fantasies than in reality.

I'm slowly starting to be a believer myself that you can hurt yourself by trying to avoid discomfort too much, similar to how parents harm their child when avoiding their exposure to filth which makes your immune system weak. But that is a hard change.

(I basically got the green light for the traineeship by the way, and also pushed civil / social service to give me that education I applied for earlier as a backup :D)

yes! electric piano with delay is great.
the last album i made is flooded with it :)

actually - it's been rather prominent in a couple of our records, come to think of it.
we recorded a 'noise' piece for one release, in which i was messing with the delay pedal while my pianist played.

i'd get it wound up so the signal would be starting to have that horrible (amazing! ;)) whirring delay feedback, then i'd switch settings send it off on another tangent. in the end it didn't sound anything like piano.
i love a bit of sonic experimentation.

i'm putting a new band together at the moment, with a friend i've been writing music with for 13 or 14 years. in a good song writing session, we've been known to write over 20 songs. there tends to be amphetamine involved...

we've never really got a band happening, until now - but we've recruited a brilliant drummer and bass player, which is the hardest bit in putting a band together ("your band is only as good as your drummer"/rhythm section).
pretty fun. we need to get some gigs booked to force us to finalise a set and polish up some tracks though. i'm looking forward to performing with these guys - the other guys can really fucking play, and i feel really fortunate to have such talented collaborators. it reminds me, i guess, how much i've put into music over the years, to have such great people ask me if they can play in our group.

nice recordings, xork. i enjoy listening to you play.

I've been trying to verbalize a thought just like this. You put it better than I could have.

Anxiety when hanging out with your girlfriend's mom for the first many times is pretty normal, idk if it's something that needs to be medicated away.

Nice man. :) Yeah you guys have a good point. Why wouldn't I be nervous about meeting my girlfriend's mom and then going on a 2-day camping trip with her? 8) And avoiding difficulty isn't always what you want. Man, I'm glad I caught myself with these GABAergics and am doing something about it before it got worse. I find myself getting down these paths of anxiety and stupidity in my thoughts and it's hard to realize it at first. It's triggered by stress, it's basically the main issue with coming off phenibut. I lost $250 trading cryptocurrency, and I was upset the whole day about it, it was horrible, I was obsessing. I've also been drinking a lot, which helps mask it but it is starting to be my belief that my mood fluctuations and bad sleep lately are probably also largely because of alcohol. I drink most days lately. Shouldn't be doing that.

All in all it's nothing compared to opiates, but it sucks because I just don't feel quite right or as comfortable with situations and hey, I could fix it pretty easily. I'm glad I haven't gone there though, thanks for the sense-talking. I guess that's why I posted this instead of just doing it.

Awesome man, that sounds exciting. :) Yeah the statement "you're only as good as your rhythm section" is incredibly true. When we lost our bass player, we tried a lot of people out. Only one of them worked, but he's this old-school cat who's been playing around town for 15+ years, and he's amazing. He played with us for a show that we already had scheduled before we lost our bass player. We still always hug and chill when we see each other out, but he was never going to be our full-time bass player, he's too busy and plays with some pretty great acts, it was really luck for us that he did it (and man did that show go well). Other than that, it wasn't working with anyone, it was like 8 months or something that we were looking. In a town full of musicians.

Eventually we decided to not have a bass player and go down to a 3-piece... our drummer is young (21) but amazing and he's gotten so much better in the 2.5 years he's been playing with us. Instead, me and my guitar player reinvented our parts and our general style of playing together so that one or the other of us is covering the bass range. Also I have a Moog sub-phatty which really brings it. The result is that some of the songs in our EP have more bass than we used to have. Some of that stuff was with overdubs, hell some of it was brand new ideas we only got during the recording process, so it doesn't sound quite as full while we're playing live, but I'm starting to work on playing two keyboards at once. I could play the Moog with my left hand and the other stuff one-handed with my right, during the times where both should be happening at once. But it's gonna take work to get there for sure.

And thanks. :) I'd like to hear something of yours sometime.

Ahh man, I took that microdose (~30ug of ALD-52) and it's perfect. Waiting for my girl and her mom still and I started playing with my delay pedal again and figured some shit out. This is the most fun thing ever, if you're playing music by yourself. :)

i've actually started using my delay pedal (just a nice simple boss DD3) for the first time in years.
since i got the amp i use now (real nice english class A valve amp) i completely stopped using effect boxes because i didn't want to muddy the amazing warm crunchy analog goodness of the amp.
it's that perfect - like, i've had a lot of guitars and a lot of amps but never found the perfect tone - until i got this amp, then my gretsch.
i think i got the amp in 2009 - so it's been a while since i dusted off my stomp boxes!

so i stopped using any pedals, which made setting up for gigs really easy - just plug in and tune-up, which any working musician can probably appreciate :)

buy now i'm playing with a bunch more people, and composing - and jamming - a lot, it's nice to have a bag of tricks to reach into.
i just have a few - tremelo, delay, chorus, fuzz (russian big muff) and i also have an mxr 'blue box' octave fuzz pedal i've not used much, but have mainly used with my drum machine to make it sound rougher and glitchy.

playing without using effects became almost a source of pride after a while, but i'm not against them. i just found that dropping them gave me a lot of interesting room to play around, because i am a pretty experimental guitarist at times, but i don't need to use effects to get wild sounds out of my guitar - i find overdriven, overheated vavevs and controlled feedback give me a heap of aural textures to work with - and pedals can only complicate things, or be a distract.
i really love the sounds i can get out of that amp/guitar combo, and got to really know how to do interesting stuff with feedback and resonance. it's almost like altering the wave forms on a synthesiser or something - and now, when i add something like delay, after years of using this magical combination of amp + guitar onstage and in the studio, it's pretty entertaining - for me at least :D
i'd never had a hollow body electric before, but i'm a total convert. the tone - and the sustain - of my guitar still blows me away - and i've had that for 7 or 8 years as well.
i don't think having good instruments necessarily makes you a better player - but if you can okay a bit, they surely open up a world of possibilities. it's a pretty beautiful thing, to make the sort of sounds you've always dreamed of.

my amp has a nice spring reverb and a killer overdrive channel (with an on/off switch) - and those two "effects" are more than enough.

i'll have a look at what recordings we have online and maybe send you a link...

also - good luck with the phenibut kick. it sounds kinda rough.
that stuff never really ddi much for me, and frankly i'm kinda thankful of that fact. i'm not very good at being self-disciplined when it comes to easily-available legal things like that, which can become quite a problem...
withdrawals are awful in any regard, but GABAergic WDs don't sound like fun.
take care of yourself man <3

One time during my heavy delay use days, I was again tripping on 2C-P while playing by myself, dreaming of my aspirations to become a well respected musician someday, and I thought of a really lame joke that at the time got me laughing so hard I had to put the guitar down for a bit. "I don't care how long it takes, I'm going to have the greatest delay ever."

Get it, because if it takes a long time then the word delay has two meanings. :p Most of the time it takes people a moment or three to understand the joke. I tell them the delay before getting it is part of the meta of the joke, but it's really just a bad joke. :). Still tickles my funny bone to this day, tho.

Oh, 2C-P, how I miss thee.

Do all my edits before the timer for the edit line is up show up in moderator view? Sorry if so.

nope. those are just some nice tiny ninja edits:)

i miss 2c-p too! i really liked vaping it, from a glass pipe. sadly i only realised it worked well like that after it was no longer available to me. when it was good it was great, that stuff (ime at least)

haha -sadly i got the joke the first time, and it didn't need any explanation :P

i'm not sure if that says more about me, or the quality of that joke. i remember a friend of mine having a similar moment of hilarity whilst tripping on a camps trip.
something like -
"this is intense!"
"in....tense"
"in tents!"

hahaha. nothing quite comes close to being genuinely tickled by something funny when you're tripping out of your mind.

Cleaning my bong. Gonna trip off some 2C-B then treat my lungs to fresh bowl of my new buds8(
