☮ Social ☮ PD Social Tripping Thread: Euphoric Rambles for Swirling Souls

I went to therapy for a little while after I did ibogaine and quit opiates... for both drug counseling and discussion of my recent separation from my ex-wife. We quickly got to the fact that I use psychedelics, because I wanted to talk about the ibogaine experience a lot. She seemed fascinated and supported responsible use of psychedelics for self-helping through issues. It was really cool, she read my ibogaine report too and we talked about it.

Good to hear that on both accounts... and yeah definitely you can't shun it if it such an important part of your life or developments in your life. Since I was pretty damn inactive for a few years, it wasn't really a topic despite how they helped shape how I am. I don't go digging in the past these days with therapists to discover what may have happened or something like that, I have no use for it.

Makes perfect sense, also that they would be so fascinated, I don't know how you could not be fascinated given the promise and potential if you hear certain things about it. I guess some therapists think it's 'not done' to keep an open mind about drugs that have a reputation to be involved with psychosis or at least are deemed psychotomimetic by plenty, and generally were considered that classically - or they do but find it inappropriate to talk about it in a positive light with clients.

But if you're sharp and adequate you should recognize the difference in context between a flipped out schizophrenic and a person who has no issues with delusions of any kind but instead gains benefit. It's a good sign if they are more free to talk about it, I don't like it when people are so stuck in their thinking that they can't let go of something preprogrammed, basically like a prejudice (or morals?).

Fuck I was just in that 'difficulty swallowing' thread and now I have a huge lump in my throat. I guess I won't be reading about AIDS any time soon.

Yeah my therapist was an addiction specialist, and she was really fascinated to hear my story since I went from 10 years of daily opiates to stopping all at once and not having any cravings... she told me she definitely thought I was no longer addicted to opiates (I agree with this). We did talk about my general usage patterns of drugs including psychedelics. She thought I used them too often, which I can certainly appreciate because I do use them more often than most people. We talked mostly about my ex-relationship, which was only very recently totally over at the time.

But yeah, she sees lots of opiate addicts and she said it was blowing her mind how over it I seemed for having quit, at that point, just a week and a half prior to seeing her the first time. I told her it was because of the ibogaine, and she naturally wanted to hear more.

We are thinking of starting creating some techno with my friend. How do you think that we could get started, Xorkoth?

Man there's so many paths you can go with dance music, especially techno, but having about a 1.5-2 years under my belt I'd say all you really need to start is a decent computer, Ableton Live (of course you can choose any DAW, but Ableton and FL have the most tutorials and online content, and Ableton is better suited for techno and dance music, as well as being able to be used for live performances too), an audio interface, and a MIDI keyboard. Having another MIDI controller for volume levels, adjusting DAW specific parameters, etc. is nice too, but it's not necessary. Preferably a 49+ key keyboard with at least partially weighted keys, and as many knobs, faders, and controls as you can find. While Ableton has a good set of stock plugins including built in synth Operator, etc. you'll most likely want a few VSTs as well. Personally my number one used VST is Spectrasonics Omnisphere 2 for it's absolutely massive and unprecedented sample library as well as synthesis capabilities (for reference, it's under the category of sample-based synthesizers). Serum is fantastic and a must have IMO for it's versatility. Diva is about the best analogue emulation VST on the market, but of course CPU heavy because of it. A modular synthesizer system emulation VST is nice too as you can do so much experimentation with modular systems that's just impossible to replicate otherwise, do some googling for a good one of those, I haven't looked too hard.

There's so much, man. And that's just if you want to be computer based. You can always spend more money to build an actual modular system, buy hardware synths instead of using VSTs, use a hardware mixer instead of Ableton, etc. etc.

How much money are you looking to invest initially?

P.S. BICEP are the SHIEEETTTT! I saw them live at The Peacock Society in Paris back in July and they absolutely smashed it. One of the best sets I've ever seen. Did you know they started as music bloggers hunting vinyl and posting their best finds and from making a name in the blogging scene moved into production?

yeah i just heard about ableton earlier today. thanks for advice man too bad im on bed already and writing on my phone, lets continue tomorrow. good night <3

Not sure I'm the best guy for this question, as the music I play is all with instruments. We've got some knowledgeable people here about electronic music production though. :)

If you have any questions about the software / technical aspect of EDM production, ask away.

Thanks, I'm downloading Ableton at the moment.

No, I did not know that :D

My friend is helping me so much, when we go to Helsinki with my friend we can go to a studio. I think I have never been in one :D

Crashing: Yeah I downloaded Ableton live Suite v9.5

I use Ableton Live, i prefer it to pro tools, sonar, cubase, and logic so far.

FL Studio is the bee's knees, too. The cute little carrot icon is deceptive; it's actually more powerful in certain aspects than its older brothers like Cubase. It also has a really slick, user-friendly, resizeable interface.

Yes I love Ableton! Got more than enough VSTs from Pro Audio T, although it would have been cool is Spectrasonics Omnisphere and/or Ivory didn't fail working for me - over the top but it was just such an unusual waste of time to try...

Am gonna work again with Ableton soon, inspiration only recently returned to me in general and I have my scheduled filled with other creative stuff - can't do it all...

I like core Native Instruments vsts like Kontakt and Reaktor, I wish I could find a way to make more unusual ambient pads and to synthesize sounds that are warm soft and fluffy in between piano and guitars strings and 303s.

What was the deal with Ombisphere not working Solipsis?

I've for the most part relegated all my music time now to finding new and interesting patches in Omnisphere that sound fantastic and are playable solo and then learning scales on my keyboard. Occasionally if I get super high and godmode inspiration strikes I'll have a night where I get a good 40 minutes of material recorded, but it's usually not actual creation anymore.
