Discussion - Creditability - is it ours or the universe's to take?

I think intelligent conscious beings can't imagine death while concious, because you've only thought while being alive. Death somehow seems illogical to the thinking mind. What did you think before you was born? Nothing because you wasn't fucking alive, same when you're dead. I know when I die I wont be an I, I'll be fucking dead.

How do you know that we thought "nothing" before we were born? No one knows what happened / where we were before, so can you really come to that conclusion?

Ouji boards are extremely weird dangerous things a few people i know have had some proper scary shit happen. i would not touch 1 with a fucking barge pole. almost every1 i know in real life has had negative experiancess with them and never touched 1 again. im not saying everytime u do them something bad will happen, but it seems like theres a good chance.

Simple. The I that I am is the result of chemical and electrical activity taking place in my brain, nothing more. When the brain dies the activity stops.

i will watch that bur before i do, you cant say theres nothing in it when again 10s of 1000s of people have had freaky shit happen. some are probubly explainable but i dont believe they all will be and theres nothing to it. The excorsit is based on a true story of a boy who played with a ouji board and got posessed alot of weird shit happened. Theres loads more well known cases of unexplainable shit tahts happened

I disagree. It's all explainable.
Kid thinks he's possessed ? Kid needs therapy, not a priest.
I have spent many hours reading about the paranormal, as I type this I can see a bookshelf full of it. Hours wasted on the internet too. I've yet to hear of one single thing that really could be classed as a mystery, and I looked hard before finally realizing its just tricks of the mind, people clinging to something, brain glitches or people scamming the vulnerable for cash.

anna leese michael i think her name is. her face, voice, personality changes so much i think she talks in a different language she knew nothing about aswell, All documented., i suppose youd say the ssame about her maybe look into a bit b4 giving the same opinion if you dont already know the case

disagree tho your probubly right in the vast majjority of cases i also know this subject well aswell, and the odd case now and then will have creadability tho scientists, whatever will never agree.

Anyway we could argue till thw cows come home, each to there own and i respect that.

Very true. My atheism came late in life and I try not to be the stereotypical internet atheist twat. IRL I tend to hold my tongue. Nobody ever really knows for sure and its good to keep your mind open.

well sorry if I'm not a psychiatrist and english is not even my first language.
and how do you know that every religion started with people hallucinating god?
that is a bit of a wild assumption.

maybe I'm stupid but I still don't understand why my answer has zero imput of my own.
also I was answering evey, so i don't really see how do you fit in this.

and sorry again for my utter ignorance and misuse of the english language.

Apologies, I was a bit drunk and lairy last night. No offence intended <3

I am a bit touchy on certain mental health matters and terms like 'schizo' do tend to be used pejoratively and is also not really accurate to describe acute drug-induced psychosis which is what I was referring to in relation to myself. Extrapolating from that, I went from avowed atheism to complete belief in... all kindsa weird shit - most of it religious - overnight. Strikes me that religious imagery and hallucination is an extremely common feature of both acute psychotic events and also shizophrenia itself. Also strikes me this fits remarkably well with people who claim to have religious visions and people considered 'prophets' by many. It makes far more sense to me that this is probably where religions begin given mental health issues where generally cosidered to be closely related to the actions of a god or gods at the time most of the major religions began.

As for the having no input thing, I was referring to your swatting aside a basic question about the difference between belief in a god or gods and belief in other supernatural phenomena as being 'obvious'. It is not at all obvious - they are the same thing in essence. People who dodge questions like that or don't even see the relevance of them generally don't have much to add to discussions of this nature in my own experience. As I said, add something thought-provoking or challenging in some way and I'm very happy to retract what I said,

I do genuinely apologise to yourself (and others) who I was a bit snappy with last night though. I do get kinda bolshy when pissed 8)

I heard recently that there's pretty good evidence to suggest that it's literally the moment of birth - that first breath we take - when consciousness begins. There are ways to test for this but there's no conclusive proof either way afaik.

Haha, having to debunk the ouija board. I thought this was 2014, not 1814.

Ouija Boards weren't even patented in 1814. They were invented as a toy by Waddington's - same company who make Monopoly. It's a toy not a bridge to the spirit world. It is amazing how short people's memories are. Admittedly none of us were born when they were all the rage but surely the fact that they are toys sold by a toy company is a bit of a giveaway 8)

I'm sorry I cannot discuss outjie boards they are dark, negative energy, frighten the shite out of me and made me have OCD - they're my nemesis... NEGATIVE FORCES, evil from the devil... "shoulders..."

I can understand that, Shambles. A friend of mine was like you in terms of emerging religion during addiction... but in difference, I've believed since I remember... It was just natural... I've heard it all and for years I just never discussed that I believed in God or referred to myself as a Christian due to all the negativity towards it... People don't like *Bible bashing,* as they refer to it - but it's OK for them to try and convert Christians against their faith.... Why is that so? Why is that acceptable? In the year, 2014 - with diversity it should be accepted...

As far as I am concerned, everyone to their own *Different strokes for different folks!,* so to speak.... people should be allowed to be atheist, Christian, agnostic, spiritual, Hindu or whatever without judgement.... I find it extremely upsetting that religion, something that should be full of love and compassion, is along with politics, one of the biggest reasons that wars / arguments / disagreements start...

Everyone who has every hurt me has come face their karma; nothing to do with me (as Sylvia Browne says, with revenge you dig two graves; theirs and you're own - fuck that!). I sat back, prayed to God n had him do what was best.....

EDIT; Who said our brains are of electric and chemical commination??? Gold Star. You're right!

GOD EXISTS I TELL YOU!!!!!

He helped me keep my little girl. He delt with the bastards (demons).
He answers my prayers every night.
He stopped my Taid from dying for a double heart attack in 1998 (16 September)
He stopped me dying over high blood pressure during pregnancy

This is my world and I'm seeing you all in it so what does that mean???? I am experiencing and feeling you all, you're all apart of my world. I see you all and I smell and feel everything... God is here I tell you.....

Hang on there is a reason for my existence after all........ I am experiencing you all....

I never do understand why religious folk say stuff like that. It's no different from me saying GOD DOESN'T EXIST I TELL YOU!!! It's simply subjective belief - nothing you say in any way constitutes empirical evidence even remotely so it's purely an opinion. An opinion of which you are certainly fully entitled to but purely an opinion all the same.

On a more practical note, you never considered thanking all those doctors and nurses who actually dealt with the medical issues you mention? Seems kinda churlish to me to say the least.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm NO!

That's YOUR opinion and, above, is my opinion.... I don't need empirical evidence.... it's my faith... God has always been there for me, always!!!!!

We differ..... we're humans.... exciting innit.... :D

Jesus doesn't have an issue with alcohol so get drinking!!!! He turned water into wine, ffs!
