I can tell you to look in the right places though. Damp eucalyptus litter in shaded areas is a good start. In fact there's a rather large reserve near us full of gums and eucalypts...just don't go too deep, subs always seem to prefer the outer lining of forests ime. All else I can say is 'follow the creek' ;)

hahah sorry just way to keen to get? them and thannnnkyou i had a look today around some creeks but had no luck :( is looking early in the morning the best chance to find some or at night?

Hunting at night is pretty bloody difficult actually, and we don't really have need to in SA because we're allowed to be on the land. I went for an 8 hour hunt all through a reserve today, plenty of gorgeous inactives but subs are still a week or two away in the suburbs I would predict. Get out to the pine forests if you want them anytime soon man.
 
Had a quick look around just then with a torch the ES of Melb, no luck didnt find a thing :/ Should I wait a few more days or head further east?

ohhh alright, haha yea i want to but just have a hard time getting there without a car hahah...hopefully a bus goes up that way

Basically the weather was shit until sunday, with temps around 25. So no subs. Now with all this rain we should be seeing stuff pop up over the next week and a half, so stay tuned.

Hehehe. I have a bunch of friends who have been doing this for like 5 years now..
Every season their gardens go absolutely ballistic.. So if I ever want shroomies that bad, I just have to drop in to their property..
But, all the fun of the season still lies in classic picking missions
 
Very successful stroll today in the blue mountains. Basically stumbled across a monster amount. Super happy.

It's totally biased, here's a couple of gems......

According to one Australian drug survey, the number of people using hallucinogens doubled between 2007 and 2010.

Drug educator Paul Dillon says recent rain has resulted in "lots of mushrooms".

"[That's] certainly what I'm hearing in secondary schools," he said.

Mr Dillon warns teenagers that such mind-bending drugs can damage developing brains and even cause psychosis.

There have been reports of deaths overseas and there are also the dangers of taking extreme risks while high.

Paul Dillon is from NDARC. He has always expressed a biased view.
 
I'd like to see him hung from the westgate bridge by his testicles, but that's just my opinion lol.
 
Hey guys, hoping to head out to some pine forests when winter gets going, just wondering where I should be looking? There are some dirt roads I can drive along through the forest, but where do I wanna start looking?
Where do I wanna head towards as I look?
Do I want to look in the thick of the forest or in more open spaces?
I only got out for a few unsuccessful hunts last season, and I want to do a better job this season.

Just want some tips really, not looking for any specific locations or anything like that.
Been brushing up on shroomery again, just thought some of the more experienced hunters could throw me a bone.
 
Ive found them in thick forrest and along paths, probably found more on the edge of thick to light forrest but not sure weather thats saying anything.

best thing to do is brush up on ID as much as you can and just go walking. i love the hunt and the walk in a forrest on a freezing cold morning its half the fun.

Once you find one you will start seeing them everywhere.
 
I find most of mine in tan bark beds around the suburbs, parks, playgrounds, schools, even the local supermarket
 
I don't have any mates that have been picking before, but I'm super keen to have a go this season. I understand the dangers of eating unidentified mushrooms, the risk of having some horrible organ failure or whatnot, but... is it really that difficult to tell what mushrooms are active and what are not? From what I have read the best sign is blue bruising and a purple/brown spore print. How many shrooms bruise blue, have a purple spore print and are dangerous, is it really that hard?
