I agree with you entirely. But like I said, change won't come easy. So many people rely on the criminal aspect of drugs, it's going to be difficult to rock the boat and change opinion when people in power have a reason to keep the current drug laws. Give them an incentive, and it would be a little easier, but we'd be making a deal with the devil. Then again, nobody said capitalism was based on religion.

It's either one or the other, take over the current (insanely wealthy) power brokers of the world, or change the opinion of the majority of the world, while those wealthy power brokers do everything in their power (easy with total control of media) to prevent it from happening. Yes, obviously I'm a conspiracy theorist nutjob who should be locked up in a home. Excuse me while I ramble, nobody will take me seriously anyway.
 
^ I don't think you are a conspiracy nut; it's true that there are people and groups with a vested interest in keeping the status quo due to the money and power it affords them. This applies to law enforcement, government and corporations and I've made a post talking about this before... I can't remember which thread it was in though.

In America it's a lot more obvious in my opinion, as they have a privatized prison system where basically they are getting more money for having more people in jail. The power plays here are maybe a tad more subtle, but they are still there and you are right that change is not going to be easy unfortunately.

Unless we change human nature itself I am very doubtful we will change the current fucked up situation of the small number of rich having power over the large number of plebs. As long as there is a biological desire for control and power we will have people who will abuse their position of power..we need another evolutionary leap into universal conscience - it's our only hope :)

Customs and Border Protection National Manager Cargo Operations Jagtej Singh warned that the public should not think that small amounts of illegal imports will go undetected.

“Customs and Border Protection takes the importation of all illegal substances seriously. Regardless of the quantity we have tools, techniques and procedures to intercept illegal drugs coming into the country,” Mr Singh said.

Further arrests have not been ruled out and investigations remain ongoing.

Anyone else think this is directly related to Silk Road and all of the media attention lately?
 
^ that and the war they are losing in trying to stem the flow of 'grey market' chems into the country.
with such a massive online drug market (specifically or presumably illegal) currently, they'll want to do anything they can to lift their propaganda campaign.
but i'm sure you're right about the recent media attention given to silk road.
never before have so many active compounds been available via mail-order into the country...the authorities are pretty powerless to stop the whole thing - not that i would advise anyone import substances of dubious legality into the country. it's a needle-in-a-haystack kinda thing, but i sure as hell wouldn't want to be the poor sucker that gets caught.
 
We really are entering a whole new era with the drug market going global thanks to the internet. It's going to be fascinating watching what happens over the next decade or two. My hope is that it will only further highlight the futility of prohibition and lead us closer to a healthy, scientific drug policy.

The downside is that it's much easier to prosecute the buyer than the seller in these cases, so we might see a new focus on prosecuting drug users for small quantities just to try and send a message. Hopefully any of the AUDD crew who are choosing to use these new methods of buying chemicals are being as careful as they can %)

i'd love to think that challenges to authority would lead to a more considered, progressive approach - but the war on drugs isn't known for being rational.
i agree that we're more likely to see a more petty, repressive attack on users than a liberalisation of drug law. i guess that's why we need to keep up the intelligent campaigning.
 
I think we'll probably see the attacks on users in the short term, but hopefully the benefits in the long term. When they realize that even their attacks don't work, hopefully it'll contribute towards people seeing the light.
 
Two men charged as police break alleged drug ring operating on the state's North Coast - Operation Eldorado

Two men have been charged in relation to an alleged drug ring operating on the state’s far north coast.

Operation Eldorado, comprising officers from Richmond Local Area Command’s Drug Unit, was formed in March this year to investigate the supply of methylamphetamine (MDMA) in the Ballina area.

Following extensive investigations, officers arrested a 32-year-old Ballina man and a 35 year-old Byron Bay man about 11.15am today (Friday 17 August 2012).

Following the arrests, detectives from Richmond and Tweed/Byron Local Area Commands conducted search warrants at houses in Ballina, Byron Bay and Mullumbimby.

During the search warrants, officers located and seized cash, capsules believed to be ecstasy, cannabis, drug paraphernalia and mobile phones.

The 32-year-old man was taken to Ballina Police Station. He was charged with the ongoing supply large commercial quantity of prohibited drug and supply large commercial quantity of prohibited drug.

The 35-year-old man was taken to Byron Bay Police Station. He was charged with supply large commercial quantity of prohibited drug.

Both men were refused bail and are due to appear in Lismore Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 18 August 2012).

Richmond Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Greg Moore, said today’s arrests are the culmination of months of hard work by police.

“Operations of this nature disrupt the major of supply of drugs in the area. They are also useful in removing key players involved in drug rings,” Detective Inspector Moore said.

“There is still more work to be done and I expect further arrests to be made.

“I hope today’s arrests sends a message to those involved in the supply of prohibited drugs that we will not give up the fight and will continue to work hard to identify anyone involved.

“The community can play a big role in crime fighting and I would urge anyone with any information about crimes in the area to come forward and contact police.

“That small piece of information might just lead to something bigger and help us make the streets safer for everyone,” Det Insp Moore said.

Yeah considering Byron has one of the worst levels of street violence in the state in main town, taking MDMA off the street is really going to make the place safer? :\ Address the alcohol problems that cause most of it first hey guys. Johnson st is known as a major hot spot for drunken night time violence and it's been in the news alot of the last 6 mnths or so. Taking mdma away will probably make things worse in the shire lol. Damn.

If your going to write the substance without abbreviating it then atleast write it all not just half of it which is so damn annoying and possibly confusing other people but boohoo to the loss of the molly and dent in the community. Its just going to get cheaper for every dealer taken off the street there will be 5 more taking its place which will end up in turf war like it usually does.

Ecstasy capsules seized in Ballina as a part of a drug bust code named Operation Eldorado.

Police smash drug rings

FOUR MEN have been arrested and two remain in custody, after police smashed two drug rings operating in the Northern Rivers in two days.

Comprising officers from the Richmond Local Area Command's Drug Unit, Operation Eldorado was formed in March 2012, to investigate the supply of ecstasy in the Ballina area.

Richmond LAC Crime Manager Detective Inspector Greg Moore said after extensive investigations into the supply of ecstasy, yesterday officers arrested a 32-year-old Ballina man at Ballina and a 35-year-old Byron Bay man in his home town.

"Police also seized a large quantity of cash and approximately 1400 pills believed to be ecstasy," he said.

"The investigation to date has seized approximately 4000 pills believed to be ecstasy estimated to be $100,000 in street value.

"We believe we have interrupted the distribution of a large quantity of illegal drugs on the North Coast."

Det Insp Moore said following the arrests, detectives from the Richmond and Tweed Byron LACs executed search warrants at a number of premises in Ballina, Byron Bay and Mullumbimby.

"Police do expect further arrests to follow from this investigation and our inquiries will be ongoing."

The 32-year-old Ballina man was charged with the ongoing supply of a commercial quantity of prohibited drug and supplying a large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug.

The 35-year-old man was charged with supply large commercial quantity of prohibited drug.

The pic shows them counting caps, but the article refers to only pills being seized? hrm. 4000 pills.. You'd want a good lawyer hey. :( Damn.

Meanwhile two men were granted conditional bail after police discovered an underground hydroponic cannabis set-up at Casino on Thursday.

The Richmond Local Area Command Tactical Action Group TAG swooped on a multi-storey premises in Swanson Lane at Casino at 9.25am.

While searching the premises, TAG officers found 1.5kg of dried cannabis in a second storey storage room and seized 33 hydroponic cannabis plants from a concealed concrete underground room.

Police arrested a 57-year-old and a 53-year-old man at the scene.

Sounded like they had a cool grow room (a concealed concrete underground room.) I wonder how something like that would be detected, i guess either someone tipped off the police or they were stealing electricity?
 
I just noticed that the drug bust thread has had the most views (pretty easily) out of any open thread on AUSDD in the first 2 pages on the forum atm... Didn't realise it was so popular. I guess like myself, alot of people enjoy reading about the busts in our country, and the outlying ones too. I hope others, like VB and anyone else post up anything they find :)
