mescaline - best cacti

Hello
I was thinking about trying mescaline soon.
I was wondering what the best cactis is to buy...out of san pedro, peyote, and peruvian torch?
What is a good method to extract the mescaline?
Also how is the availability to these in canada?
Thanks.

They all contain other psychoactive substances that will alter the trip to some extent, but Peyote is supposedly the "cleanest"... unforunately its endangered, and probably a good reason why it is expensive relatively. Ideally you'd want peyote, but I wouldn't take it unless I had grown it myself and had more to reproduce.

Peruvians and Pedros are very similar but most seem to agree that peruvianus is more potent.

Availability is not allowed to be discussed here, as far as I know.

Hmm
im gonna look for a peruvian torch then..
does anybody know a good method of extraction?

Peyote is supposedly the "cleanest"

You have a reference on that? My understanding is that peyote is the most potent, but from what I've heard Peruvian Torch is has the least of additional alkaloids in it.

I don't think it's the cleanest. Cacti high is just the cleanest experience you can have full stop.

Peyote is tyhe most potent, and it would be the most full ni trip. As it has around 56 alkaloids, instead of like 15, as with other columnar cacti.

Pedro is the most easily available, and it's a good high.
Peruvian is a bit harder to get, and it's pretty much the same high as Pedro. I even have peds growing which are much stronger than some of my peruvians.
But, the best go, honestly, is Bridgessii :). It's the least known I'd say, and it's not that easy to get. But it truly is the most full on one out of the Trichocereus family.

So if you can, get your hands on some of that :)

^what do mean by "full on"?
is it the most potent?

i needed 32g of peruvianus to get to a +++.
how much bridgessi would i need?

Red Earth is spot on with this:) But it can be a personal thing...
Good luck with your search...:)

I found Bridgessii come up to be the most intense. And the experience itself, to be full blown. I don't know the whole weighing thing. We normaly dose a cosmic dose. So I myself would eat like 2 - 3 feet of bridgessi. And same with pedro or any other cacti. 2 - 3 feet seems to be a visionary quest. I recommend eating same ammount of bridg, as you would eat of pedro. (If you're dosing by yourself, don't eat more than 1 - 2 feet).

Ps. Before you cook it up, chop it up, and freeze for a day or 2, let thwart, and freeze again. This way all the alkaloids will come out realy smoothly. When u defrost it, all the goo that will leak out, will be your alkaloids. DON'T LOOSE ANY. from there, a few hours of cooking and you're done.

Good Luck, if carried out correctly, it will change your life.

Alkaloidal variation with different cactus species

I was inspired to bring this topic up due to a post by Ismene in the 'gentlest psychedelic' thread. Do people find as wide a variation in the subjective feel of trips using the alkaloidal extract from different species as I do, or is it that knowing about the differingalkaloids makes me artificially exaggerate what are only slight differences?

I've only had alkaloidal mixtures from 3 species T. pachanoi, T. peruvianus & L. williansii, but find thar T. peruvianus (Peruvian torch) is quite a bit more 'laid back' than T. pachanoi (San Pedro), which I find a lot more stimulating/speedy in feel. This seems to correspond to the composition of the total alkaloid extract as San Pedro contains significant amounts of hordenine (4-hydroxy-N,N-dimethylphenethylamine) which is known to have some sympathiomimetic activity, whereas Peruvian torch only has little more than trace amounts of any alkaloids other than mescaline. L williamsii (peyote) is markedly different to the other two in that it is much more inclined to produce flushing of the face and gastric distress - nausea & the big spit! (vomiting), which I believe is due to the presence of tetrahydroisoquinolines (produced biosyntheyically by condensation of mescaline & metabolic precursors with an acetaldehyde molecule).

I'm pretty certain that the difference between peyote & the other two is documented in several places, but I've seen nothing about differences of experiences from using different species within the Trichocereus genus. Anybody else noticed these differences?

Input from anybody with experience of cacti other than those 3 species would be greatly appreciated.

I always thought cacti had significant amounts of MAOIs in them; is this incorrect?

FYI I have not read Shulgins The Simple Plant Isoquinolines. Is there any information on this topic in that book?

Some guy (yes I forgot his name lost his e-mail address etc) at the sunrise summer solstice celebration ;last year gave an excellent lecture/talk on cacti and various techniques of speeding production (his stated aim was to try to replenish the decimation of the traditional mexican peyote) but he had info galore on trichos (gawd hope that abbreviation isn't wrong ) he dwells in southern spain ~ someone must have his contact details (if I could then any commoner can )
He was very very clued up ~ and dedicated ~ very !

Fastandbulbous do you have pictures of your cacti you can post? I'd like to see what your "peruvian torch" specimen looks like in particular. Many cacti that are sold as "T. Peruvianus" are generally accepted to be T. Cuzcoensis rather than the true T. Peruvianus, which may not even be a legitimate species. Alkaloid content can vary depending on the species, time of year, age of the cactus, and several other factors. Even 2 cuts from the same clone, grown in the same spot have shown great variances in alkaloid content.

^ Interesting. I was under the impression that Cuzcoensis is a particular subspiecies of Peruvianus that grew in a certain area. But you seem to know more than I on the subject. Would you care to elaborate more? :)

Well it'd be difficult as I have no plants now (although I did get the cacti from a specialist cactus house in N Yorkshire, so I'd assume the owner would be correct - he's a total cactus freak whio even had photocopies of articles about the use of cacti in religions etc). Thet weren't ones bought from a garden centre where generally the staff don;t have a clue what that actually were.

Mind you, I did have a monstrose form T. peruvianys that now live in one of my dad's greehouses

Even 2 cuts from the same clone, grown in the same spot have shown great variances in alkaloid content.

Are you talking about the total weight of alkaloidal mixture/kg fresh plant or the percentage composition of the cactus alkaloids

Production of plants or production of alkaloids (different thing) as you can increase the yeild of mescaline.kg plant tissue by injecting the plant with L-DOPA every few weeks during the growing period. This can increase yeild by severalfold.

I always thought cacti had significant amounts of MAOIs in them; is this incorrect?

They may have alkaloids that are very weak, competetive inhibitors among the alkaloids, but if you really want to stretch the definition of competetive inhibitor then the substrates themselves become competeive inhibitors by virtue of tying up the enzyme while it is metabolized

\as far as I'm aware, no mescaline containing cactus contains any MAOI's of any clinical significance

F&B, interesting post. I suspect the "other" alkaloids have a lot to do with the experience, and maybe they also vary within species.

I note you say that you found San Pedro stimulating - my San Pedro experience was the exact opposite. It had a powerful "stoning" effect, so that I couldn't really do much more than sit in a chair or lie on the couch. A friend took me for a walk, but I had no energy. Strong trip tho.

This was unique in my psychedelic experience - every other trip I've had (mostly lsd mushies and DOB) were stimulating.
